Simply put, "voter verified trail" does not have to be a paper trail. This bill would be a step in the wrong direction. I do believe that the source code should be available, however mandating a paper trail is archaic.
Paper ballots also get easily lost or mis-placed. What do we do then?
This is not the end all solution that is it being sold as.
Instead of hanging chads, we will now have elderly and others who can not mark a ballot with a marker so as to be accepted by the scantron machines. This will cause the machines to reject the ballot and the voter will either have to wait in line and get another, or they will leave in frustration.
I do not understand the need for a 'paper trail' in this sense. When a voter feeds the scantron their ballot, there is NO voter verification that takes place. The voter assumes that the vote was counted properly by the system. Only in a recount will the paper trail be of any value. Therefore if a machine is acting improperly in reading the ballots, nobody would be the wiser unless a recount were to take place along and an audit of the machines. This leaves us in the same position we are in with the touchscreen machines. Voters STILL can not verify their votes counted after feeding it into the scantron machine. The state needs to use a system in which the voter can verify their votes were tallied after casting their votes.
On the other hand, the only way a receipt would ever be acceptable is if it could ONLY be used to verify that your vote was counted when the totals were run. There should not be any record in your possesion that proves who you voted for.
I don't see the big deal about making the throughput 10x greater than 802.11g.
The big issue should be improving the security of WLANS.
What happened to 802.11i? The energy spent on getting 802.11n an approved standard should be spent on improving wireless security standards - not making it easier for people to capture MORE packets faster in order to break your encryption scheme!
What happened to the bully Microsoft of the past? I can't believe he did not get any jail time for fines. Granted community service sucks, 225 hours REALLY sucks.
Note: If he does 8 hours a week (assuming he has some other sort of job), it will take a little over 28 weeks to complete!
One way they could find a way to stick it to the man would be to impose an additional State Tax to people who are subscribed to an ISP. They could just charge 5% extra to your bill from your ISP, and call it a "flat download fee."
But as far as expecting people to PAY FREELY a download tax - this guy should be laughed out of office.
I goto Florida State, and here the school recently purchased a subscription to www.turnitin.com
Teachers are now requiring students to turn in a digital copy of their paper, that will be uploaded to that website and searched for plagerism.
I sure am glad I got those writing classes out of the way early-before the professors used that website. Whats next, a online submission that will grade you paper too?
I think the mini-series ending was left open in hopes of having a "Taken II". At the end of the series, the girl Ali is taken, and says she will return. So in my opinion, I think they will come out with a sequel.
definately TCWO.com is the place to go for computer parts... i have not been able to find a place that beats them yet! they have great support too... try them out
TCWO.com
Why do we need an alternative?

We do have a receipt... the I VOTED sticker.

Awesome now Alienware will come with 200+ useless software titles. (oh and the hard drives will now crash on a 6 month basis)

I think it's pretty funny actually. Did he think that he wouldn't be caught if he sent it to his foes? Come-on man, mask you identy somehow.
Is this the first case of a WebTV hacker?

Well... I just looked that the http://slashcode.com/ website thinking that would be what they were working towards as part of the transition!
It will still be sad to see the old /. go... but everything needs to be revamped every once in a while.
Maybe its because Microsoft's internet search sucks, and they want to assimilate some new search tools.
point taken... just wishful thinking
