No innovation and Microsofties leaving to work for google is a sure sign that 'catching up' is going to get harder and harder as days go by.
Besides, they have grown too big for their own good.
It may be a good thing that the company didn't get split into two. This way, at least we have to fight only one 800-pound gorilla, rather than two cunning 'little' monsters.
This is a society of instant gratification. The passenger trains have less importance than the goods trains (because of the whole capitalistic approach) So, no one wants to sit in a train for 15 hrs when you can get to Place A by car in 10 hrs and 6 hrs (with security , drive to/from airport) by air.
Also, no one wants to pay 2 or 3 tmies as much to travel the same distance.
So, you see, geographically, it is just not the best option. Yes, I know there are places like LA to San Fran where this might work, but you would have to move too many people out of their humble abodes and put a whole lot more into the infrastucture, which the politicians have no interest in doing, because Americans love their gas guzzling SUVs.
Microsoft will most likely block the emails, and send an email to the user saying "This looks legitimate, but we can't deliver it because the sender's company is not using Sender-ID. You may contact them here to show that you would like to see them implement it".
This will get the ball off their court, as they will get regular users thinking that this is a good thing and we should contact the other company to tell them to implement it, thereby slowly penetrating the market with the bull they call an innovation.
In other words, intentionally or not, the simulation is completely rigged against BitTorrent.
1) They don't want any other software to function at all, but since they know that a lot of users are wanting this, they want to jump on the P2P bandwagon and say "oh yeah, we have that". I guess they didn't want to buy any existing P2P apps, because of the bad publicity. So, the next best thing is "innovation" (i.e copying other's source code and changing the names of functions and authors).
2) put some DMCA crap in it and say, oh yeah, it is like totally unbreakable.
3) Profit!
How is google going to use and who it is going to sell these maps to. While this is all very cool, I just don't feel comfortable having my house photographed and out in 3D. Too much big brotherish.
What I would like to know is, what the chances are of the goverment now using the Patriot Act to start taping my phones and track my movements, because I am opposed to something that it/they might be in favor of?
I mean, it is not like, a Senator does not have a stance on any given issue. What if my opinion is different from theirs? What are the repurcussions?
Bush has only threatned veto so far to calm the right wing conservatives. He is indeed a very smart man. Throw a bone to both sides and keep them wanting more and let the house and senate fight it out like rabid dogs that they are.
It was late in ack. the revolution that is the Internet.
It was late in ack. that a search engine was a very vital piece of the internet pie.
It was late in ack. that people will pay for downloading music to play on devices even if it is on devices and formats other than Microsoft owned
I doubt they have a chance of pulling the rug from under Apple's feet.
Maybe they should sell the whole album for $1 and give away free copy of Windows.
Oh, and tthey should go back to *not* breaking the Internet.
If I write to my rep., I wonder what they will do with the personal information I provide? For all I know, they could start keeping track of me, as a political dissident. Then what? And will my rep. consider anonymous letters?
There is nothing technical in the article except FUD. Xen is the best product out there at the moment, and it is mentioned as a one liner. Boy, I love how all these 'news' sites cater to the big money corporations.
Is the shortage in the call center market or the programming market? I don't mind doing any job if I am unemployed, but I would want to move into a position that utilizes my talent as well as compensate my well for that talent.
They were shipping via UPS due to the low cost? First, I would think that the postal service would be cheaper if they were looking for low cost. Second, I had a similar issue with an airline shipping my ticket via UPS and when the ticket was lost, UPS would not give me any information about where the packet might be, not even when the airline tried to contact them. All they would say is, the package was 'delivered'.
I will not trust UPS ever again. Also, I have never had any problem with the United States Postal Service
"I remain determined to ensure that all elements of the Decision are properly implemented. This includes the ability for developers of open source software to take advantage of the remedy."
How much do you want to bet that this issue will slowly be pushed into the background and eventually disappear? Microsoft has always found a way out of such situations.
This provides a more advantageous position from a military/army/navy standpoint. Many advances in medicine are possible from space based research as well. I can see why Bush administration wants to be the first. When other countries finally arrive on the moon, the US can dictate the rules for staying on the moon. This can be advantageous on many fronts. i.e terrorists, medicine, armed forces and so on.
Is no one watching the OTA?. I guess many of these people never watched the StoreWars either?

We will soon have the Crushinator 3000 and Lulabell working the martian farm or is it the moon :)
What about plumbing and the rest of the infrastructure needed for maintaining this 'farm'?
Trying to catch up with Windows 2000 eh? That should take but about 10000 minutes.
What about evasive evasive maneuvers? Ground clearance? and all the other details involved in space flight?
A google like ....
Cringley's "prediction"
Maybe Google and Microsoft will merge then?

Oh well, its Friday, give me a beer.
Real geeks don't drink beer. Their parents wouldn't allow such things to happen in their basement.
BillG? is that you? Is this what you did after you bought all the PC for 5 cents?
Oh, this and remaming Computer to 'My Computer'
Sheesh. Talk about inferiority complex.
... rare book thefts ...
If they theft of books is so rare, then what seems to be the problem?
Are LCDs ready to take over as the primary computer display?
Yes.
Is the retirement of CRTs, premature?

Wow that was an easy Ask Slashdot!
