So you want to leave your laptop out in the searing sun for hours straight, just to charge the battery for a tiny amount (not a lot of solar panel space) ?
You need some big ass batteries to last you through the night. Problem with this is solar panels don't provide much power, so you need some big ones to charge those big batteries fully. I assumme a couple hours is always better then nothing, but still...
If I get this right, it is illegal to circumvent effective copyright protection. but
since a Norwegian hacker succeeded in circumventing CSS protection used in DVDs in 1999, end-users have been able to get with ease tens of similar circumventing software from the Internet even free of charge. Some operating systems come with this kind of software pre-installed. Thus, the court concluded that CSS protection can no longer be held effective as defined in law.
So everybody can circumvent CSS NOW, but back in 99, when it was difficult, it was still illegal...
I guess the logical step is for hackers/crackers when the find a means of circumventing X, that they widely distribute it and aide in creating user friendly progs to do so. Since at that point the protection method becomes ineffective and so it is legal !
with KDE it's less of a shock as a UI from windows. I moved my mother to it. When I told her I installed linux I saw panic in her eyes, then I showed her the basics she needs(which i would have needed to do on windows anyway) and she probably couldn't tell the difference.
well, we did slashdot adobe's download page, I guess that means there are at least a significant amount of people using linux on the desktop. I also kept hearing linux on the desktop wasn't ready.how come then all these people want to download a linux 100% desktop related plugin. If we slashdot a download page for a linux desktop app from a non marginal company like adobe, it means more people then they'd like to (have others) believe ARE running linux on the desktop I'd say. I'd like to see download numbers for a beta just to have an idea how much...anyone know ?
hmmm...on the first page of that court order... "Data were first deleted in December 2006..."
they knew she was going to download and delete files in the future !
won't get her out of it I guess....

Don't be an insensible clod, some poor saps still use an OS which hasn't got more then 1 workspace. Trust me I'm posting from one (only because I have to here)and it's supposed to be "Professional" and for "eXPerienced" users...tsss:)
They say the code is nothing without the people that wrote it. core people take a lot of time to replace. I somehow can't imagine this is different with proprietry source code.... I'd even say that it might be easier with open source due the fact it is more likely to be written with that aspect in mind, having others read and work on it.... Not that it is a guarantee though:)

IBM sold their PC entire departments to Lenovo somewhere last year. they still say IBM on them for a while at least as part of the deal, but that's all as far as IBM is still involved...
but this means they won't test linux on it or make design decisions in favor of working better with linux, etc if they still supported linux they'd put some effort into it at least... and if you want one, you'll have to pay for the Vista that you didn't want in the first place and actually fund microsoft who started this in the first place...
I have actually done this. pc in the hallway under the stairs. At first I only had 2 cables through the wall , one the monitor cable and 1 cable for the receptor of the wireless mouse and keyb. I have added a webcam, serial cable for digital camera, sound out to stereo, fireware for video camera,..., but these are nicely out of sight next to the tv set and you have 'em anyway... ah yes another cable for tv-out.. So the number of cables adds up but depending on your actual setup this is not a problem , just a bigger hole:) Yes indeed, I have to get up to load a cd, but I have a completely silent pc ( only way to convince the wife it could go in the livingroom) wich is not an eyesore ( nice flatpanel) and The kids can't touch the buttons !

Generally NASA and the lot get blamed for being inefficiate, wasing the money, etc. But as a European I have to make the reflection , if that we're the reason why aren't us European ahead of NASA with ESA, and the Russians even with their money problems . I think we can only conclude it's NOT as easy as it looks/seems...
(Allthough a bit faster must be possible no ?)
I would've guessed they at least put some CONTENT on the site worth travelling around the world...
Oh well...as long as they don't fill it with SARS !!
I wish I could spend that amount for causes like this... can't help to think there could be more life- threatening things that could've used it though. If I had 1M to spend on a good cause, this would certainly not have been in my top 10 to consider...

put the entire internet behind a NAT router ? :)
sad story but still nice to hear a reasonable voice once in a while.

but since Yamamoto, the average american has grown somewhat too large to hide behind a blade of grass.
