I guess you can build your own NOC, but if you don't have enough bandwidth, you can't teach others how to do it.

There have been 4 comments so far and the story is already slashdotted!

  7. Re:That sounds like a train wreck on Captured! By Robots - A Musical/Mechanical Marvel? · · Score: 1

The recording on his new DVD is dramatically better. We recorded the band with a Pro Tools|HD system and it was mixed in both stereo and surround.

We did not record the previous albums, so I don't know what their process was like.

  8. Who did you see? on Captured! By Robots - A Musical/Mechanical Marvel? · · Score: 1

I think you may have C!BR confused with something else. C!BR is a pretty heavy rock band where the robots most definitely DO play the music.

In fact, the music is pretty good, and in some cases, better than other local bands I've seen.

  9. We produced the Captured! By Robots DVD on Captured! By Robots - A Musical/Mechanical Marvel? · · Score: 1

Having been up close and personal with the band, I must say it's pretty damn incredible. JBOT really has something going there. Be sure to check out his newly produced DVD!

P.S. My favorite part of the band are the Headless Hornsmen, a 3-piece airhorn section that looks as if it was decapitated!

There were people at Apple who were positioning the company to have the Newton overtake the Mac as the key product. I'm not making this up! This was told to me by someone who was a part of the original development team, and was there until the MP2k got released.

    I can't even imagine!

  11. BBB on Oops, Dave Barry Does It Again · · Score: 1

When I lived in Southern California, I wanted to complain about a mortgage company to the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, there isn't a BBB office in SoCal. So, I ended up calling the one in Bakersfield (after trying Sacramento first) and was told that I couldn't complain to that office. They were out of my jurisdiction. However, they were happy to supply a 900 number for me to call and complain to. Only $3.95/min. I told the guy, "Then, I'd like to complain about the Better Business Bureau to the Better Business Bureau."

Have you ever seen such resolve and support on a single issue in the U.S.? I mean, after 9/11 politicians and government agencies weren't moving this quickly.

Sure they were. They passed a 500-page piece of legislation in the course of a few days. At least this most recent one was only a page, which means they might have actually read it.

    Maybe.

Ah, the lawyers are the winners once again. How many of those 7 people are attorneys? I ask because you talk about this situation like my brother, who would rather cover his ass than get his work done.

Someone earlier in this story's comments mentioned that their company simply spun off all their IT to a new company they formed, that way they would be held harmless from any suits, while still retaining all their data.

Not a bad idea, if you ask me, especially if you're so paranoid about SCO's bullshit.

  18. What about speeds? on Computer Makers Sued Over Hard Drive Size · · Score: 1

Personally, I think a more useful class action suit would cover the speed of drives. How many people realize that an Ultra 160 drive only does about 40 Mbps? To achieve 160 Mbps you have to have 4 of them in a pretty specific RAID configuration.

Doesn't seem obvious to me. And I'd been dealing with this for quite some time before I realized that it was false advertising.

  19. Scotopic Sensitivity on Color Changes in Mac OS X for the Visually Impaired? · · Score: 2, Informative

Have you ever been tested for Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS)? This may be a better way to correct the issues you are having, as the solution uses color overlays or colored lenses to limit the amount of light entering your eyes. For example, if you see letters jiggling when reading a book, it is a sign that you may have this problem.

The Irlen Institute has done quite a bit of research about this and I can tell you from both my experience and observation that it works. After all, if the problem is occuring when using a computer, I imagine reading a book (if you ever do so), must be incredibly difficult.

My mom is a reading specialist and she has been testing people for SSS since I was in grade school. The difference between the reading abilities of her students was immediately noticable. I highly recommend looking into SSS testing.

No one seems to be worried about that, now are that?
