Cook holding a new iPad up for the audience to see: "Multiple logins? We've heard you loud and clear. Users want to be able to share the incredible iPad experience with their mother, their kids, their best friend. Up until now, that's just not been possible."...he pauses for dramatic effect...."At Apple, we have the best and most creative engineers and designers in the world. We've had a team of 140...they have spent many many long nights figuring out the best, most seamless, and utterly beautiful way for you to share your iPad experience with others, without compromising your security, privacy, or individuality."...again pausing...more pausing... "Today, I present the iPad Too." He pulls out a 2nd iPad that he has had stuffed down the back of his pants. He proudly displays two tablets, as if he's Moses... He holds them up high for everyone to see..."A totally secure multiple log in, guaranteeing no data leakage between the two accounts. This is Apple innovation, and that's why I just love the new iPad Too, and everyone at Apple is really proud to show it to you today. The new iPad Too. It's simply stunning."
The audience erupts in rapturous applause. Some are crying. They're holding each other, hopping up and down. Confetti and balloons rain down.
The Android and WinPhone8 fanboys lose their minds online. Servers explode. Anarchy.
There is real benefit to the child and parent for bonding with the baby during the early months (and years). Why bother to have a child if you're so eager to get back to work and not spend time with it?
I get that you're pouring on the sarcasm (I'm reaaaallly hoping you are) but why not have a few well adjusted happy kids and parents to try to balance out all the unwanted/neglected wards of the state?
She realized that NO mom can really get much work done when constantly tired, permanently attached to said baby via the boob, or dealing with colic.
So, may as well have the moms get some paid time off instead of pretending to do work and getting paid anyway. Makes sense to me.
Dads are still getting the raw deal, but they may welcome the relief.
I'd love to check one out. But I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for something based on some greasy tech blog reviews and a few press shots. As there's no MS store within 2 hours of me, there's very little chance I'll be able to buy one. HOWEVER, if MS could put these on the shelves at Best Buy, FutureShop (I'm in Canada, eh) or London Drugs, I'd happily fondle it and maybe even buy it.
Also...while I'm sure MS would love to sell a bajillion of them, I understand these were developed as a way for MS to show it's hardware partners a thing or two about product design or something. I doubt they expected the RT models especially to fly off the shelves.
My wife really wants a Surface Pro, however, and what she wants she usually gets.
Neckbeards the world over will never stop bitching and complaining about Microsoft, no matter what they do or don't do.
The interface isn't really all that different. There are changes, but the core desktop experience is there. The Metro/whatever it's called UI is definitely different - and designed to be touch friendly where the desktop isn't.
Take a deep breath, relax and commit to a few minutes of poking around Win 8 with an open mind and you'll quickly be just as productive as before. Learning new things in IT is job security. Resisting change is a great way to be out of a job.
Finally, a computer IS a toy for a three-year-old. It is for mine. It's also a tool to get work done. I'm sure MS is well aware of these facts, which is why they have created MS Office in the first place. My three-year-old hasn't gone there just yet though.
I used three cheap-o digital photo frames (that my wife and I received over the years as gifts) for the displays in a jet cockpit set piece for a short film I made. They worked great - the slideshow feature worked well to display updating info on the tactical display, etc. The main display was an old IBM 17" LCD monitor I had in my closet.
They weren't used to cure science or find alien intelligence, but they looked great in the scene.
All he's saying (Romney) is that they just need to stop buying the base model airplanes and get the ones with power windows - like in her Caddy.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Space Policy Paper has power space windows as a requirement, and heated leather. We all know that if the Challenger and Columbia shuttles would have had OnStar, there would have been no loss of life.
I'm not up on this stuff, but is there a way to "require" the browser makers to conform to the W3C standards? Or is it strictly voluntary in so much as they want to appeal to as many people as possible? Is the only "punishment" getting lambasted by Web developers and seeing a down-tick in usage?
You'll know there's real trouble when they actually start censoring comments, instead of just allowing users to mod them. The day that Natalie Portman sex jokes, a racist comment claiming Apple is being run by "a bunch of niggers," or a good old-fashioned flamefest is replaced on/. with a bunch of "This post was removed due to Dice content standards violations" boilerplate is the day a lot of us leave Slashdot for good. Here's to hoping that day never comes.
"Niggers" run Apple? Oh boy, there's a new one. Stupid racism aside, had they seen the Executive Profiles page? http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/
I suppose it's possible, but I don't see that happening. They - the manufacturers - may bitch and whine about MS building their own hardware but they should just shut up and focus on besting MS's efforts. Linux is great and all, but it doesn't have the "cool/shine/duh" of Apple nor is it the "standard" that is Microsoft.
Until there is Photoshop for Linux (native, not some Wine kludge (or the Gimp)) plus a crowded "Linux" section at GameStop, Linux just won't rate. Recall the Linux on netbook failure for evidence.
Unfortunately, MS will continue to build for the lower common denominator even with the Surface tablets and perhaps other computing hardware down the road. Unless they plan to completely obliterate their PC hardware partner relationships, they'll be building OS and other software for those bottom-of-the-barrel manufacturers as well.
Now, if MS were to create and enforce higher standards, you may see better overall quality start to emerge. With higher standards come higher prices as well. Disposable hardware is what makes Windows so attractive to many, and MS is just has happy to sell a Windows licence for a POS laptop or desktop as they are for a high-end gaming laptop or workstation.
Apple does it backwards - they have a disposable OS (OSX) in terms of cost while their hardware pricing is way up there. Until now, Apple has been the only one to design their OS and hardware themselves, thus reducing complexity and therefor cost. MS will still be at a disadvantage in terms of complexity as they will continue to support nearly infinite hardware configurations with their OS, with lost of legacy support built in as well.
If MS would like to become the next Apple (it still makes my head hurt to type that), they'll need to cut the ties to their old way of doing things with hardware partners and go their own way with HW and SW as one. I just don't see that happening.
I've been in want of an Asus Transformer-style Windows Tabtop for well over a year. But I still won't be buying one unless it has a cell radio built in. I want my mobile electronics to be mobile, not tethered to some hokey hotspot.
Yes instead of productive farmland, and animal teaming forests we have deserts and toxic waste-lands.
But the exact same amount of land, except for the thousands of acres lost to glacier melt.
Right, but the acres of land "lost" has been replaced with water or swamp It is still all "environment".
I'm just being pedantic since I don't have anything of value to add to this discussion on copyright... not trolling I hope.

Right. Don't get in the way of, or call him out on, his irrationality.
You realize that for dads to get maternity leave, they would have to be mothers, right?

I believe that is referring to the maximum capacity of the diaper, not the age of the child. Or have I been wrong all these years?
He's bad.

You'd be surprised to learn what actual Hollywood props are made of. Also, "What a piece of junk!"
...and she can yell to you in the basement when dinner's ready, as usual. :-)

Yes, but you can always make up for it in volume.
That's how they do it at the First Citywide Change Bank....
It might help if you knew the basics of English grammar and spelling before attempting to give out business advice.
He's not writing a doctoral thesis. Merely posting online. Lighten up, Francis.
I just hope it doesn't end up looking like a huge bulls-eye.

+1 :-)
You gotta love that name.
