Only americans seems to be arguing whether it should or shouldn't have been done. Japaneses are arguing about it about it don't happen anymore. Every year, there's a large cerimony in Hiroshima for World peace. Americans seems don't understand this... Correct or not, never do it again. ok?
The only reason i can find for this is about TCO (total cost of ownership)
My dad had a TV set that lasted 20 years. Yeah 20 years non-stop. 3 years with a computer and it's already trash. Same with cellphones, printers, etc, etc... You spend a lot more to keep those devices working.
My Canon bjc4000 printer is about 8 years old and it's better than most new cheap printers.
Think about this: Would you buy a striped down Windows or just pick a pirated professional version from your neighboor? See why this is NOT going to work?
Another problem: $38 dollars is a lot of money in some contries. Where i live i could go 20 times to the movies with $40.
So don't expect this you are save any money when longhorn come out. This is not going to work...
I should write more about it... to be fair, i could moderate myself flamebait for that comment.
Of course somebody WILL exploit it. But linux security model is far better than microsoft one. How long before bugs get patched? ActiveX? Word Macros taking over the system? But, yes... i'm a zealot...
I live in a country where people just don't care about pirating software at home. But for bussiness use, they DO have to pay the bill (or pay to BSA). Bussiness area is where Free software has a lot to conquer.
In my university, we migrated all computers to Linux because we couldn't pay for upgrade to win2000/xp. Money is a big problem here. BTW, We have one lab with 20 pentium mmx running with LTSP for public use. So people have to learn how to use linux anyway.
I dont see why people think asian languadges are so difficult.
Try find a kanji in a dictionary...
Try read a japanese text with a dictionary...
Try speak a word you read frist time (kanji usually has 2 way of reading)...
Korean has a easier way of writing, but sometimes they use kanjis too.
PS: IANAT (I am not a troll), but i do have a lot of work studying japanese...
Japanese keyboards are like qwerty, but each letter/number has a kana (like a syllable) associated. There's a key next to space bar that change keyboard mode (hiragana/katakana/roman).
Maybe they should put a Linux/Tech section in google news and put a discution forum on it. Then the users could be assigned some atributes... like PageRank... like a karma... oh, wait...
Does this mean that you should steal Ferarri's since they are unavailable for immediate purchase and you cannot buy them immediately?
If you paint your car red and put a horse sticker on it, you are "copying" a ferrari without steal someones else car. Is it wrong? Must i go to jail for a sticker?
I would gladly pay to go to a arcade. But some times is difficult to find the game you want...
I know parent are kidding (or at least, exagereting), but if MS-AntiVirus(c) existed now, sure it could detect the win2000-source.zip "virus" and call home or delete it.
Pirated Software isn't a problem only in Iran. So don't blame it on embargo. The problem is economic. To buy MS Windows and Office is some time more expensive than buy a computer in the country where i live (and computers are already expensive without it.). People buy software for bussiness, but don't remember a friend of mine buying MS off-the-shelf software for personal use.
It's easier to sell a computer with a pirated Windows because it's cheaper and some people don't know linux yet, and prefer to buy a computer like their neighbor one.

i don't know about you guys, but my old motorola brick was less laggy and had better sound (i know... digital is better) than my brand new siemens.
they are not caring about quality anymore.
I wish i had mod points now.

Reference to Microsoft advice (he was trying to be funny, you insensive clod.)
.Gentoo users have a unhealthy obsession with last hour' releases and broken brand new software. (BTW, gentoo running here)

In fact, linux is the best "anti-spyware" i know.
Icq weren't a site, but stayed a long time in beta (still are?), but it was because Mirabilis was thinking about charge for the service.
Maybe it's some sort of legal move to do anything you want with the service without people complaing...

i do agree with your point, but...
Some won't expire.
Some you don't care if it expire.
But some people just don't care at all.

Nothing new here:Link
A friend of mine has some work in this area... Server-side programming in C++...T++ are not very useble yet, but proof it could be done.
It's not a Monopoly... I don't think Gnome is gonna embrace Qt (at least now). So Mono has its place.
An OS that update itself... hey... like MS want to do? It looks great in theory but you want a OS that decide a patch is more urgent than pr0n?
I'm not trying to be funny... Some day that smart OS might be possible, but not now. A future OS is not usable today.

So don't buy it unless you wanna be bored.
The only difference is the words' origin. But it means same thing.
Astronaut = American
Cosmonaut = Russian
Taikonaut = Chinese
Aunt Anne doesnt know which e-mail program to use in linux, but can cook better than most of us. She can choose a better sauce for this or that.
Joe sixpack know how to choose too. He know what the best beer is.
People want to choose when they KNOW what is to be choosen.

No, most of the older games run at blazingly fast speed in windows on modern computers
Just turn the Turbo key off... oh wait...
