Is this actually true? Microsoft has not gone after the modder's themselves, only companies that are distributed modified BIOS's (which I've read elsewhere are copyrighted). I don't think I've ever seen Microsoft saying that those who purchases XBox's don't have a right to modify them.
P2P isn't illegal. but look at napster and all others. No one can fight against mp3 format (hear audio is still legal, you know), but can against 'ilegal copy'. Microsoft can't legally fight against linux on Xbox. But can fight against mod chips.

Ethanol production is very simple. In brazil ethanol-powered cars are common. It's even cheaper than gas.
About by-products, remember commercial ethanol is made from vegetals (corn, sugar cane, ...). So CO2 is not a problem here.
