Car thieves steal accords because they are easy to steal and the owners don't care about them.
I own a Porsche 996, it sits on the street every night and sits in a public lot in San Jose every day.
I've owned several "high end" sports cars, not once has anyone tried to steal any of them.
You know why ? I'll tell you why. It's because the next door neighbor has an accord and he's left his fucking doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition, and has a sign on it saying "Free accord" that's why.
If you're running windows with it's ass hanging out on a DSL or Cable line (most are) then you have left the doors open and the keys in the ignition, metaphorically speaking.
It's got nothing to do with being common, it's got everything to do with being easy.
All this hype about google is just bunk. They have no real products to compete and generate revenue with. Google earth is a toy, gmail is a must have (for google - because the other portals have webmail)
I am continously annoyed by all this talk that google will eat Microsofts lunch. They cannot possibly do this without PRODUCTS folks. Did we learn nothing from the bubble ?
When it boils down to it google is just an online adv company that had a way overpriced IPO (the first major one in years) and everyone jumped on it's band wagon.
This is the year google shows it's colors, you'll see the "evil" part come out and you'll see the ad revenue struggle to meet targets and a lot of unhappy stock holders wondering what on earth made them pay $400 per share on earnings of $1.60 - I mean, come on ! A PE of 250 ? What are you thinking ?
No, you paid to use it's service. I don't recall you putting billions of dollars into it, and certainly don't recall it having your name on it. It's their network, they can do what they want with it.
Who says it was US Citizens ? I've not seen that anywhere. The president was granted this power by congress and congress knew all along about it. Nothing to see here, move along.
No longer is it the inalienable right of only Americans to be overwhelmingly stupid, now the Brits too have that right.
I'm a former Brit... I pissed off ten years ago before all the population turned into speed camera weilding bible thumping fucktards (well, at least 40% of the population).
Actually, nope. I paid cash. Like I said, I own my own business and make more an hour than most do in a day. This is not my first sports car, I don't recall when I last had something more average.
I really like the CGT, but really cannot justify the $440k (without dealer hike) ticket on those, but 205mph does sound great to me. The best I ever managed was 196mph (obviously not in my current ride, they're good for 175-180), I'd like to break the 200 at some point.
I'm actually in the west. I do originate from the UK though (10 years ago I moved here). What's worse is that I've had a fair amount of engine, intake and exhaust system mods done, not to mention new lumpier software for the ECU. In traffic around town it's a bit digital... you know the type it's either not moving or it's moving too quickly. Out on the freeways I usually stick to about 80, I have aq good radar detector that has kept me in good stead.
I forget what the original topic was that I was ranting away at, but hey, I get back from the pub at 2am and see some dufus talking before thinking and decide to take a potshot.
Yours was one of the first that actually didn't take offense to my rantings.:-)
Didn't the XT come with those piggy backed RAM chips also ?
The original PC's (I only remember dual 5.25 floppies) had 64k of RAM, while the XT came with more memory (configured as RAM chips sitting ontop of each other in order to reduce real estate usage.)
I also remember it was rare I saw one decked out with 640k, but then again, at that time I was apple through and through with my 5meg symbfile from symbiotics.
Your obvious mistake was assumining that the hoardes of illiterate extreme left wing morons here actually RTFA, which they didn't. I just got back from the pub and each time I post about these morons after I got home from the pub and have about the most unadulterated honesty in my system I get banned for a month, but I really don't give a fuck.
I read TFA, which is better than 50% of the folks here, I have a girlfriend, which is better than 50% here. I also happen to own my own business and driver a new Porsche Carrera, which is better than 99.9% here. The fact I think 75% here are younger than 21 and have extreme trouble differentiating their ass from their elbows... well, that's just priceless.
Does anyone else find it amusing that CNN would report this given their own level of total ineptitude ?
Anyway, over the years I've bumped into more people than I care to count that cannot tell the time on a non digital (or digical as one idiot called it) watch. All those pointy bits and numbers confused the poor souls.
It's not just America, I have dumb friends in the UK as well. Two spring to mind. The first, try as he might, cannot understand that there exists a time difference between the UK and California, he can't understand why I'm not eating lunch at the same time he is.
The second is even better. When I call him on the cellphone he usually rattles on about the fantastic range on these cellphones to be able to reach between the UK and the US.
I got a jammer from Global Gadget in the UK. It looks kinda like a cross between a cellphone and a stun gun. It really does jam cellphones upto around 30 feet radius. It's totally killer (and damn funny) to have no cell yapping while you're in the restaraunt or bar, knowing you are totally responsible for the silence.
My girlfriend is particularly nefarious with it. She'll stroll up to some obnoxious wanker and just boot him off the air without any kind of remorse.
I agree wholeheartedly. I think that if the poster cannot be bothered to construct a real sentence then the chances of his argument being well constructed approach zero.
Seriously, this site was a massive hub to pirated material. I looked at it a year ago and thought to myself, wow, this should be should down. I mean, links to torrent files of movies, music, software...
This is clearly unethical at best and should be shut down.
Disclaimer : I'm a self employed software engineer and I defend my living vigorously. If you worked for yourself, sold your own software and someone pirated and made it availble on bittorrent, you'd see it the same way.
If it was me, I'd have sued this guy, fuck his christmas.
Where does it say that these people the NSA look at are Citizens ? These people are most likely here on temporary work VISAs. The liberal media is calling them "Citizens" just to rally support, if you see the reality that these people are actually temporary visitors, illegals and temporary work visa holders, religious extremeists etc whom are here primarily to plot the downfall of your government, then perhaps you'd see things a little more clearly.
If Bush had authorized hundreds of thousands of people to be monitored then I'd flinch, but we're talking a handful to a few hundred suspected terrorists.
I support Bush in this, I also think the patriot act will be renewed, it's too important not too.
I realize that this opion is counter to most other geeks here, and I've seen many, many comments modden down to flamebait just because of their political views, it's slashdots own form of filibuster I guess.
They are looking for information about impending attacks, presumably releasing the person before cracking the drive could potentially release another bomber into the wild.
What use is it releasing the dude and 3 days later he blows up the houses of parliment (we are still close to Nov 5th), and 40 days later the MET crack his drive and say "Oh, he's going to blow up parliment"
Personally, I think 90 days is too long without being charged, but I'm a Brit ex-pat, so I don't follow all the arguments. 28 days is also a long time, but I think more reasonable.
Heck, why not just pull an "enemy combatant" like we do here in the US and hold them indefinitely, without access to anything.
Just because these fundies are treating people like animals, doesn't mean we have to do it right back.
These people will not win, you cannot possibly impose your minority views on an entire population with the sort of numbers we're talking about. The cause is a lost cause I'm afraid, however, they could go and live in plenty of countries in the world with their same views !
I think in the UK's case, deporting some of these people would be a good idea. I mean, they have openly treasonous meetings and then scream foul when the police want to be involved. Poliitical correctness has gone too far.
A friend of mine once said you don't go out looking for bear if you're friend was attacked by an aligator.
Why is is that the board of education cannot tell the difference between 'science' and 'theology' ? BTW - Did anyone else take the poll on MSNBC ? Startling results, when I took it only 53% took my side.

Back in 1995 I had a Slackware linux box running UUCP as a production mailserver. It replaced a rather aging Sun based system. It was not considered unusual, and in fact the ISP I was using in the UK were happy to work with it.
I have never had a ponytail, and never had blue hair.
I have, however, had red white and blue hair. This was back in the late 80's when I was working days as a software engineer and nights as a nightclub DJ. I hadn't really made up my mind which profession was best.
Back in the 80's the DJ gig pulled the 20 something chicks and software paid the bills, now the Porsche Carrera pulls the 20 something chicks, but software still pays the bills.
I no longer have red, white and blue hair, but do have a linux mailserver. Some things never change.
Great, Now I can quickly and easily locate videos of dumb, spoiled kids yelling at their video games (front page).
I heard that the VC community is having a hard time finding something of value to invest in (and hence have hundreds of millions of dollars in uninvested funds), but come on, this site is simply a repository (suppository) of internet junk.
A buddy of mine today asked me to help him out with getting a Mac laptop.
It's hardly surprising, the last shop we both worked in (embedded real time networking startup) there were about 30 employees and about 10 had Macs.
He's a Unix geek, just like me. He also wants it to "just work".
I like linux, but you really do have to tinker with it to get what you want on a laptop. That's OK for me, I like the tinkering, but I do that on a non-primary machine and I fiddle with everything from the kernel source to the WiFi drivers.
My primary machine is a 15" PowerBook and can usually be found building embedded linux code with the cross compilers I built from source... what's not to like ?
I worked there are year ago, across the road from google and it's a total dump. One of the reasons I left : Too many ants all over the place. Yahoo's place in Sunnyvale used to be nice, not been there for a while though.
The only useful thing Google really does is the valet parking for employees, otherwise, the stock is over priced. I wonder if 4 years from now we'll be referring to a 'google bubble' ?
Do they want to cripple camcorders as well ? I mean, they have video out (firewire digital out many of them). Do they want to control what I transfer from my video camera to my computer / DVD player ?
I often look at things like a seesaw. If the balance is over to the "benefit" side then it's worthwhile, if it's over to the "pain in the ass" side then I'll just abandon the seesaw and do something else.
Music CD's are on the "pain in the ass" side and have been for a few years now. I buy all my music online, as single songs. Video is fast becoming a "pain in the ass" too. The broacast flag will mean we can only watch TV when they want us to watch TV and with the video-out idiots we'll only be able to use our own damn signals in a way they want us to.
I may just give up on the whole thing and go back to reading books, I mean, TV is shit anyway, especially here in the US.
Great ! This is a fabulous way to raise the stakes. Kansas is now faced with a scientific body denying them material, this will certainly raise the eyebrows of the public.
ID is utter rubbish, it's being sneaked into our kids as scientific when, obviously, it is not.
We might just as well turn ourselves into a religous state, like Iran for example, stop any scientific progress and worship the sun.
These idiots need to be stopped before the cause some real damage.
