If it's a PC game, there's no region locking. Regardless, a French version is produced - they can probably argue successfully that it exists and is relatively simple to build a NTSC french version.
The whole idea behind the laws are that both cultures are intrinsically valuable and worth protecting
What the hell is French culture? You're in Canada, there's one culture and it's called canadian culture, just like there's american culture one country south. It doesn't matter what language the culture uses - we don't distinguish our english (dominant) bits from the other stuff - it's all stuck together.
You have it backwards: the intended purpose is to allow big fish to bully small fish and consumers, while the stated purpose is protection of copyright.
a) The high-level design is flawed in their eyes, but they never bothered to tell anybody when they were asked.
As a coder, I find that I tend to not criticize a design because the people in charge didn't listen the last time. If I make a valid suggestion and it's just ignored, I won't spend as much time on critique the next time.
b) The don't like one or two technical decisions. This demotivates them.
Depends on the decision, I suppose. I can deal with a wart or two, but fundamental problems need to be addressed, or at least acknowledged.
When you reach implementation phase, they hate to read documentation of the design or underlying frameworks, which results in duplication of framework functions. They work that way because they like to code, but hate to read specs., framework documentation, or the design.
Sometimes the design is shaky or incomplete and the PM isn't responsive, so I do something just to get moving. Progressive design addresses some of this by unearthing the shaky parts as part of the process and refine it in the next iteration.
Maybe because VOIP has NEVER BEEN A GOOD 911 OPTION.
True. Of course, I have a cell phone and a 9mm. The cell phone is good for weather related emergencies, adn the 9mm is good for hostile humans. I live in a decent area, so I only really need to worry about bad weather.
Completely irrelevant. The US rate of murder is vastly higher than the UK's.
There's more to crime than murder; I like it here where, if you don't deal drugs or live in the ghetto, you're very safe. Meanwhile, in the UK, burglars don't wait for you to leave because what are you gonna do?
Well, it's apparently a covenant violation to have to pool at all, I expect the GP wants it all out. I like clotheslines, but I also read HOA contracts.
Really? Disconnecting people after 3 warnings is disproportionate to the 'crime', but the answer to a sneaky gov't dude is to *shoot* him? Really?
Well, it sort of makes sense - subvert the democratic process and get shot is the sort of thing to give the next guy pause. Hell, even our founding fathers were in favor of that sort of thing.
There's no commandment against killing. It says 'thou shalt not murder', which is pretty much a tautology, as murder is by definition an illegal and heinous act.
They were only taking picture of light that was over the public road. Cameras don't reach out and take things.
By that logic, standing in a bucket truck filming the children changing for bed between the slats in their blinds with a telephoto lens and uploading it to the internet isn't at all an invasion of privacy either.
According to the cops it isn't, at least when they want to bust someone for doing something naughty indoors.
works great until some other company grabs the devs for their own project and builds some competing stuff.
I've paid for it - $100 for the cheapie version that does what I need for retouching.
even so, 50BB/yr could fund a lot of projects and spur a whole lot of advancement. Moreso that BS military-industrial crap.
You were able to do everything just fine with less money in the 60's, so why not now?"
Didn't NASA get funded on a level with the military in the 60s?
American culture is broad - you don't see us bemoaning the fact that only a small portion of our population speaks creole, do you?
Some of them will crack open a better job for you. After all, you've proven yourself valuable.
Everyone's allergic to dust mites. Take some alavert and wear a mask.
or any decent logscanner, really.

how does that even work? You aren't copying someone else's work, you're just recycling content that you have lying around.
You have it backwards: the intended purpose is to allow big fish to bully small fish and consumers, while the stated purpose is protection of copyright.

The founding fathers did, on occasion, state that having a proper level of fear for the electorate was a healthy thing.
their approach is not that different from those Black Hole Lists that many Slashdotters defend.
In much the same way as ignoring someone is the same as throing them in a hole.

Good thing I don't live in the UK. Sorry if you do.

Note the difference between shooting a burglar and shooting a fleeing burglar.
If you shoot someone breaking into your house with you there, it's probably not murder.

The problem there is that people would just copy the game and return it.
