  3. Re:A Standard UI on "What is Linux Missing?" · · Score: 2

that's not what linux is about. It's about choice at the expense of being easy to use. There will never be one GUI, there will never be one distro...but at least nobody wants to fork the kernel so that everything runs no matter what distro. That's what linux is about. That's where its power lies but it also means it's a weakness for attracting new users.

  6. don't underestimate these guys on The Upcoming LinuxOne IPO · · Score: 1

LinuxOne will probably do well because their focus is on China and Japan. Do you think they care what slashdot says? Slashdot is in English. LinuxWorld is in English. They'll let Redhat dominate the English speaking world while they try to 'own' China. Having said that I think these guys are con artists trying to sell stuff anyone can legally get for free.

If Redhat gives up you better believe it's going to have a negative impact on linux, its ability to get new software as well as marketshare. So like it or not, the future of linux depends on one company-Redhat. Fortunately, Redhat isn't linuxzero.

Yes I think it was dateline NBC or one of those shows that had a feature on all these weirdos. He really looked like a lizard with the green tattoos, shaved teeth and all. Freaky. There was this girl with a split tongue who decided to put a piece of metal through her back which was hooked up to some rope so that she could 'fly' around to feel the rush caused by the extremely painful pulling sensation. Plus all these other guys who had all these metal objects embedded under their skin.

  12. why no name change on News on Pentium IV · · Score: 1

ok here's the reason why it's called the Pentium IV instead of something else. The Pentium as you all know was preced by the 486 and before that the 386, 286, etc. They couldn't call it the natural 586 because I think cyrix took the name first. Pent is the root for 5th generation (pentagon, pentagram, etc). What comes after Pentium? Sextium. OK. I think it's obvious why Intel can't use that name. So what if they decide to skip 6 and go to 7? Septium which sounds like a septic tank. Intel is really stuck right now.

Microsoft and Scientology are 2 organizations that try to get you into giving them lots of money. So it's not surprising they'd join together. Anyway, even if this isn't an official ban on W2K, the scientology link is very bad for Microsoft in Germany. I'm sure alot of people here in the US and around the world are also disgusted by this cult. Also, a modern file system shouldn't defrag, period.
