well that just means you have a pretty dumb web reader. It shouldn't be too hard for someone to design one that ignores all that stuff. Because if you're expecting everyone to use alt tabs and 100% proper html then you're not blind-just crazy
"Here we have a cheap system that will very likely be in millions and millions of homes, have 10/100 Ethernet built in(oops, Sega!), significant processing power($20 says they put the SB Live audio chipset in it, btw), and will run Linux. " No it won't. The idea is that it will be on millions and millions of homes and will run _Windows_. Linux or any other OS won't have a chance
Well there's always a support problem. It's really hard for all these tiny distros to give the same kind of support that a more unified approach would give
It seems everyone and their uncle is trying to make their own linux distro "specifically tailored for novices". End result: confusion and a thinning of the linux support market.
not just because of unisys but it's about time we had an excuse to switch to a better format. But I don't think it's the right time now. Wait for full PNG support in mozilla/Netscape 5. That also means waiting for mozilla/Netscape 5! And you still have to wait for MNG format to replace animated gifs-as well as browser support.
surgery is always a risk. This is more worthy than that plastic surgery stuff (I can't understand why anyone would take the risk of surgery just to look fake...) but I'm going to wait at least 10-15 years before I even consider doing this. You mean you have to open your eyes and _see_ while they cut it? That scares me like hell. I should spend the next 10-15 years practicing yoga meditation before doing something like that. Otherwise I'll probably need another session of surgery...for a heart attack
that's not a problem for BeOS or when linux has a journalled fs (extfs3) ready. OR if shut down really means "put it in a low poer standby state" but there's always the chance the user would pull the plug and that would be bad
well kde and gnome try to make the linux experience alot easier than before but it's more important for linux to have lots of choices (including at least 2 "standard" GUI's, many distros, many kernel patches and even filesystems. That's great if you want complete total control over the OS but it's not so great for everyone and it never will be. If everyone decided that the way to go for linux was one distro, one GUI, unified everything-then it wouldn't be linux anymore. it would be a free windows lookalike. Now, there are many technological differences between linux and BeOS. In some cases linux has better technology and in some cases BeOS has better stuff. But the biggest difference is in the implementation. You'll never see a consistent unified approach to linux because that's not what linux is all about
"For one thing, atheists don't often go around slaughtering the, uh, "unbelievers" (so to speak), " is that a joke or what? ever heard of Mao and Stalin? they slaughtered millions and millions of people. The Soviet Union was officially atheist. China and North Korea still are and they really suck As a Jew I'm know of the yevesekes (Jewish leninist atheists) who persecuted religious Jews (including executing some) and attacked Russian Christians. Anyway, Knuth is a great coder and isn't running around attacking people. So stop attacking him because of his beliefs.
so you're basically saying that linux is only for the rich-either large companies like IBM and Oracle or people who have enough time on their hands to give away their work for free. Screw the small developers huh?
Athlons are at.25 not.18. AMD is readying Fab 30 to produce.18 copper athlons with integrated caches. That should blow away the coppermine (which is another mistruth from Intel-there's no copper!). Anyway I'm pretty sure sledgehammer will compete with williamette. 64 bit, floating point registers instead of the stack, multiple cores on one die-yes that looks pretty cool to me
http://www.windrivers.com/mskey.htm See? Microsoft has a response to everything!

that's correct. That's why the drivers are optimized for athlon too :)

I'm pretty sure this means the end of DVD-or at the very least, delaying the latest titles. I guess it's VHS forever
AMD's Fab 30 is ready to go and we should see copper athlons next year
Well there's always a support problem. It's really hard for all these tiny distros to give the same kind of support that a more unified approach would give
she swallowed a fly. Perhaps she'll die...
I heard Aureal was working on Be drivers. There's no need to port their linux drivers
It seems everyone and their uncle is trying to make their own linux distro "specifically tailored for novices". End result: confusion and a thinning of the linux support market.
yeah it's unlikely we'll ever see $300 computers with W2K
yeah the name sure fooled lots of people. Shame on Intel.
we're probably going to see multiple cores on one die with AMD's next gen sledgehammer

I have NT workstation on my 486 66 with 16 megs of ram. It's not 49 minutes but it's no fun either hehe

macos x is not suitable for pc companies
Well all non-Windows platforms are waiting for a decent browser right now. That will be mozilla and it will come to BeOS.

hat's unfair- lots of their stuff blows
there's NO copper in the coppermine and you won't see it until intel is ready for .13. On the other hand, Amd's fab 30 will produce copper .18 athlons
