I don't know about you but I've grown up with the philosophy that everyone should be capable of taking care of themselves in the end. I'm witnessing a situation now where the wife is leaving the husband and is getting beyond half of his stuff and a huge chunk of future earnings because she doesn't have nearly the same earning power nor any savings. She's in her mid 50s and starting off with essentially no marketable skills. So now she's in a position where, if their genders were reversed, she'd probably get nothing and would have to somehow cram in 20 years of retirement in approximately 15. But being female she was able to get an incredibly hefty reward for basically doing nothing for 30 years.
I'd rather avoid such a situation completely, avoid the man/woman-hating, and just make sure everyone is in a situation to take care of themselves in the end. As mentioned in the previous post - I very well may get hit by a bus tomorrow. What would my wife do then? The life insurance is there but all it does is provide for a buffer to get on her feet and keep feeding the kids. And that time frame for getting on her feet gets smaller and smaller as she gets older if she's not preparing for it now.
Pure opinion here - if it was me in your shoes I'd have the wife getting into the job market (heck, what is she going to do at 40 if you get hit by a bus anyway?). At 40 if I was uneasy about my current job I'd start looking at sprucing up my resume and putting my name out there just to see how the market is biting. I'd like to think we're all fairly flexible in case of layoffs - I seem to always run into various people looking for all spectrums of folks in the IT world. The biggest thing is being willing to relocate. Beyond that all I can say is I hope you've made the most of your career thus far because that's what's going to keep you afloat.
I actually read once that a lot of the old gear is kept due to its resilience to the radiation out there. The larger circuit traces from that gear was supposedly less susceptible.
Dang. Mp3.com was one of the greatest things ever. And as far as I know a LOT of legitimate artists used it back then in the same manner than myspace became at its peak.
My favorite changes due to 9/11? Cockpit doors and explosive detection. That's it. That's all we needed to "beat" terrorism on that front. Curiously - explosive detection isn't even a priority it seems - but, as the article alludes to, things like lighters are. Go figured.
I've just called customer service, gave them the IMEI, they submitted a request to the manufacturer, and I got an unlock code about 3 days later. There wasn't anything painful other than taking the time to just call. Mind you - I did this as a former customer and this was maybe a couple months ago.
If it an excessive use of power? Yes. Is it a violation of my personal space? Yes. Is the agent groping me with one hand with his other on his erect penis? No. Are they penetrating me for their own sexual gratification? No. Are they enjoying it in a sexual nature? No.
When you call it what it isn't it and exaggerate the nature of what's happening you're causing yourself to lose credibility. If you want to have a reasonable discussion then you've got to bring reason to the table otherwise you're going to be dismissed before you even get to the door.
And like I mentioned before - we probably agree on the overarching problem with what's going on - but there's absolutely no need to associate it with rape when it should be enough to associate it with a significant violation of our essential liberties.
Scenario - you're in prison for a crime you committed.
Guard A violates you in every manner they see fit. Pick an orifice. They look at you as subhuman. They enjoy this practice.
Guard B treats you with respect is only minimally invasive. They explain what they're doing. They want to see you get out of this place as soon as possible and hope you'll re-enter society without a hitch.
They *are* two different things. Suck is suck, but there are varying degrees.
I hear this story all the time from various people at all different shops and it drives me batshit. These are the kind of people *I* want to deal with. Not pushy salesmen. I want people knowledgeable about what I'm after and are looking to meet my needs the best. Ugh.
I've used them multiple times w/ no problem. The issue is that shipping takes quite a while so it might be just impatient folks filing reports (3-6 weeks).
I'm a "pocket' phone holder as well but this came with a holster type case which appears to automatically lock it once it's in there. I'm not a fan of the idea of having my gear exposed like that but preventing the scenario you mention might be worth it.
The button on top is quite annoying though and I'm not sure I'll get used to it. One option might be to get the app that does that swipe lock thing similar to how android does.
So far no problems but not holding my breath. I've heard similar experiences with other models and can only hope I don't get to join that club. The model is a 9930 if that makes any difference.
One thing worth noting - all the problems you mention I'm having with my current android. (Samsung Intercept)
Agree 100%. My personal phone is a prepaid android and that carrier simply didn't offer any other type of smartphone. It appears RIM isn't even trying for that market - which appears to be on the rise as people are sick of paying $100+/mo for a single phone.

!student visa. Doh.
Perm resident or work visa.
From what I gather after that period of time you should have actually applied for and received your student visa.
Aye - very likely. Didn't say I necessarily agreed. :)

While they're at it why don't they go after their colleagues for trying to push laws that circumvent current wiretapping laws?

Did he miss the part about him being the fucking BOSS? Jesus. Have some balls.
Law doesn't give a shit about intentions - unless it's an explicit clause.

I want to say I also used their chat to unlock one of them (i've done this more than once - non iphone though).
Number:
1-800-331-0500 (don't call from the phone you're trying to unlock, btw)
1 down.

I just keep my gear portable. Hurricanes give enough warning.
No, no, and no.
Read this for crying out loud. You're in effect minimizing what real rape is by trying to lump this into that.

I've been there before and just got the floor model for like 50% less than what was already negotiated. Totally worth it and still working today.

Why thank you. ;)

I don't disagree except on the point that we're probably defining "young" significantly different.
