You people are acting as if this is going to break the company. It's going to feel like a bug bite to them -- sure it'll sting a little bit, and it might even cause them to be a little more careful. That's it. It won't kill them. And besides, things like this are the price of using cutthroat business tactics -- sometimes you get caught and have to pay the price. As for the shareholders, it can be argued that they're somewhat complicit in the whole thing. They are the ones who have been pumping MS stocks up to the levels that they're at, where executive management and the BoD feel it's their "duty" to destroy any and all competition, thus further increasing their shareholder value. If you as a shareholder end up getting hurt by this settlement, maybe you should be paying more attention to the ethics of the companies in which you invest.
From what I read in that thread, the majority of slashdotters feel that grammar is useless and that the rules that do exist shouldn't be followed because "it's too hard to remember them all." Not that I agree with any of that. It sounds more like the ramblings of a bunch of lazy geeks. That being said, we should change the "editor" title around here to "filter" or "green-lighter," since that's all the "editors" seem to do...
I think many of us here understand that language evolves. The fact that there is no single guidebook that governs the English language, however, does not give people the right to toss out any and all rules that do exist, as several comments here would seem to suggest.
You could always try following one of the numerous style guides put out by the major new organizations and publishing houses (or just default to Strunk & White or something similar). They have their differences, but by and large they tend to follow the same rules.
How the hell did this post get modded insightful in a thread about communicating clearly?!? Unless, of course, it was modded up to exemplify the submitter's point.
So let's see here. After building a popup blocker into IE, they've now realized that if they purchase a popup/adware company they can be the only ones to have popups that work with IE?
They may be able to make up some lost ground with Google, but I'm not so sure they'll be able to catch up. It took them a while to destroy Netscape (who has now reared it's ugly head again as Firefox). That was a single target - a single app that did a single thing. Google is more of a hydra that just keeps on growing new heads all over the place...
Do they offer an online program for this? I don't think I'll be able to make it to Beijing...
Ahhh, now that's not wacky thinking... : p

If they were fined $20 Billion it would not have a positive impact on a company.
Y'see, that's where your thinking gets a little wacky. It's supposed to be a penalty, not something that benefits them...

I'm gonna wait for the JoeIsuzu Observatory to confirm this before I believe it.
Cryptonomicon isn't a bible.
You're right. It's bigger than the Bible!
If someone asked you "Have you eaten?" would you reply "I of eaten."? Maybe, but you would be wrong.
Oh yeah? Well, what if he has?
...and even (shutter) l33tspeak are the norm.
What? Were you taking a picture or something?

What's a faget?

I have a golden crayon. Can I make a rule?
You remember wrong. B/W G3s had an option for a Zip100 drive.
What retard decided to put binary data in RSS?

Coral anyone?
.nyud.net:8090 after the domain?
Why don't you make it yourself? Is it too hard to add
And if you would actually read (and comprehend) the parent's post, you'd see that he said the last macs to ship with floppies were beige G3s...
Looks like the submitter forgot something. Lemme see if I can help him out a little:
How will this study affect your next thought? Go here to discuss it further.
There, that feels more complete.
Instead, the electricity gobbled up by these sets is used to play videogames, watch movies on DVD, or view old Jane Fonda exercise tapes.
Surely this must be code for something else...
But I thought he was a Sith. At least, that's the impression I got from that video of him and Oprah...

6-pin firewire cables can supply power. The micro, 4 pin connector (aka iLink on Sony stuff) does not.
