You ask the very same question I was pondering as I read the article. It seems their strategy and company has gone to shit since 9-11. They lost what was probably their biggest contract in a long number of years with the Joint Strike Fighter, which all but took them off the map in the defense area. Now they are going to get their asses handed to them by Airbus.
I honestly thought that the supersonic jet would be the savior of this company. Now all we can hope for is that they die peacefully (without gov't bailouts) and some company that actually wants to innovate will rise from the ashes.
This is acutally the telemarketers computers waiting for you to pick up. Once they know they have a live number (which they have just determined by you yelling nasty things into the phone) they will call you back at a later date with a person there ready to harass you.
I read this info a while back, but don't remember where.
I have had two bad experiences with ebay. One, I was younger and bit stupid, I bid, won, was ready to write the check to send to the guy (check, yea real smart) and he sent me an email saying he was going to rip me off, but decided against it.
The second time was recently, the guy refused to give me feedback, despite paying him immediatly. I waited about a month and a half, sending him emails to remind him. Finally I got so pissed that I left him negative feedback stating that he refused to leave me any feed back. He retaliated by saying I am an unreliable seller, bad product etc. The stupid part was, I was the BUYER for that auction. What a jackass!
Cracking down on this will drive Microsofts target audience away.
Who do you consider MS's target market? Linux geeks who want to ruin the company by hacking the XBOX? I don't think MS considers those folks as being part of their target market.
Their target market is the 13-30 year old male audience that enjoys playing video games. Preventing mod chips from getting to this market is not going to affect thier buying decision. These people buy the XBOX because they want to play games on it.
To reiterate: The people MS are targeting don't give to shits about mod chips, they just want to play games.
I thought that only Dell, Gateway, and H-paq were left. Does NEC actually think they have a fighting chance? And we all know that they are still Packard Bells at heart:)
I think you are confusing "value" with economic cost. There is a difference. If Microsoft makes it so clustering takes less time, with better monitoring and configuration tools than the current Linux tool set, then they have created better value. Yes, it is going to cost a hell of a lot more, but if your Boss wants a cluster setup by tomorrow, and you only have a Windows Admin on hand, what is going to be more valuable to him? Value is created when something is offered that makes the job at hand easier, faster, more maintainable, etc.
Note: I do not disagree with you that the cost is going to be much much much higher in a Windows cluster.
McNealy and Sun deserve to die a slow, painful death, with their incomplete, overpriced products.
Have you seen thier stock price lately? How about thier 3 straight (or is it 4?) quarters of losses? I think the death has begun. That 9% cut last year was just the first ax. The best is yet to come!
It really is too bad that this was modded "funny" when it clearly is not. I would say "Insightful" would be a better mod. Oh well! Well said man, let's just hope the gov't will start easing some restrictions on business so that they can develop the technology to keep up with the growth rate.
You are thinking of Yellowstone in Wyoming. I believe Yosemite is in California.

This article is actually part of a series on online auctions. Here they are:
Part 1- The above linked story
Part 2- Cautionary tales of two auctions
Part 3- Auction fraud on the rise, some say
Part 4- Confessions of a scam artist
Part 5- Auction scam hits plasma TV buyers
Part 6- Auction fraud victims fight back
Part 7- eBay vs. the fraud police
Part 8- 'Deadbeat bidders' dog eBay sellers
Part 9- Fake escrow sites lure auction users
nice(1) now uses the -n option to specify the ``niceness'' of the utility being run.
Doesn't that just sound like a happy command?
Actually, I think the better question would be:
Who would win in a fight, the Federation, or the Empire (as seen in Episodes 4, 5 and 6)?
the internet as we know it would not exist.
Correction: slashdot as we know it would not exit.
How in the hell is this "Funny"?

And the entire phone support community at AOL, RedHat, Mandrake (and every other Linux distro with an 800 number) cries at once "Oh shit!"

but, how does this affect people who already wear glasses? I mean, do they now have to wear two pairs? I just seems kinda silly.
And, by the time you add in VPN as step 6a) you are down to about 56k speeds right? Doesn't seem quite worth it to me.
Packages are initially available from home bases
So are all of your packages and bases are belong to us now too?
