i found that my qwerty typing did not seriously suffer after learning dvorak. there's about 1 min. of lots of backspacing when i first try to switch over, then i'm fine. I have a mouse binding on my background to switch maps for admins, and nt even has a button on the taskbar.
Many people attending MIT don't have computers because the 'public' (open to all students) computing facilities are so good. In fact, I do not own a computer because I have access to theirs. Requiring students to own a computer would not be a popular idea.
actually, "i would have put down the correct answer, ma'am, but doing so would violate a non-disclosure agreement i signed with your competitor's company" is not too uncommon.

i web-browz on a fairly high-speed connection, and i still don't typically load images. it's the difference between "instantaneous" and "fast", and often filters out the "content" i'd try to ignore anyway (like ads) while permitting the content i want.
>these tests measure *ability to do well in college*, for the most part.
actually, SAT scores are poorly correlated with college grades, particularly for women (on average, women score lower than men on the SAT, but earn higher grades, at least at MIT, which is the sample pool i know best)
coal-burning power plants are cleaner even than (reg-old-gas) cars because they are optimized for a particular burn rate. cars could be made cleaner _if_ the engine ran at a constant rate (which can be done by using a flywheel for deccelleration and accelleration). so, except for the eventual disposal of the batteries (after a long and productive life), electric cars are still more umwelt-fruendlich than gas-powered cars.

actually, global warming does have basis in fact. see the Acoustic Thermometry of Ocean Climate (ATOC) experiment, which measures the increase in temperature of the world's oceans. this kind of measurement is not subject to the kind of transients that confuse most people trying to draw conclusions about global warming from weather data.

completely untrue. for instance, the pittsburg runway lights failed, and stayed down throughout the first. this severely inconvenienced many, including my mother, who had to be rerouted (because the plane she was to fly on had a stop in pittsburg sometime in the previous 24 hours)
the disadvantage of LaTeX is that things that could be simple (like changing font families) are still moderately difficult. the advantage of LaTeX is that things that could be impossible (like properly typesetting equations) are only moderately difficult.

the hr person that came here said that, at least for drug use, if you'd been clean at least 3 years (and never caught) that was generally ok.
There's hypocrisy, and then there's hiphoprissy.
Hope this helps.
