  1. Re:Guelph - Comp Sci (not Systems Eng) on MS/Waterloo Curriculum Deal On Hold · · Score: 1

Guelph, that pretty funny. You don't go to university to learn languages, you go to learn computer science, which has nothing to do with programming in a certain language. I've taken courses (At waterloo) where they make up a language and you do stuff with that. The language dosn't matter, because in 10 years that language won't be used anyway. You go to college to learn languages (although I guess you could make a pretty strong case for guelph being a college). I'm not trolling or anything, I'd love to go to guelph it I though there was any value to the comp sci degree, no one's denying that guelph girls are hot, and waterloo girls are not, but the truth is the program just isn't up to the standard.

You think waterloo has a bad reputation? Well if you own a tech company, who the fuck are you going to get your workforce from? McMaster? Western? U of T? Ya, good luck with that, I have friends in comp eng at all those schools and spend more time at keggers than in class. Waterloo is the only serious school in canada for technology and no matter how bad its reputation gets, young tech students will still want to come here and tech companies will still want to get their workers from here.

  7. Am I the only one who pirates a lot of stuff? on Intel to Build DRM into Next-Generation CPUs · · Score: 1

    I'm 20, I'm in university.

I pirate everything, movies, music, software, whatever.
I haven't bought or rented a movie for the last 2 years. (Queue it in kazaa, its there within a couple of days
I haven't bought a CD for the last 3 years. (Stream it from kazaa)
I haven't really bought software ever. (Well, maybe paid a friend $1 per CD for it)

If anyone I know asks me, I'll give them a copy of a movie or software that I have on CD or just send it to them over ICQ, and I know a lot of people who will do the same thing. Now I realize that this is wrong and everything but I don't want Paladium to go through because of it. The reason its being implemented is because of people like me, and I think there are a lot of us. I know no one in this slashdot crowd will admit to using their computer for anything but playing a DVD in linux or using mp3s to back up a CD that they bought, but from my experience, that's not what a lot of people do. I don't think its just university students either, I've given win2k and office and a lot of other software to relatives, or to my parents friends, people who will typically pay for the stuff. My mom gets me to burn CDs for her now and she doesn't even know how to use a computer. When so many people are getting something for free, it causes a problem with the economy and Palladium is the only solution that I (and I guess the industry) can see that will work. So I guess my point is, don't blame big business for taking away your rights, because people like me are forcing them to do it. Blame the pirates, I'm not denying that its our fault. The Going Concern Principle of accounting states that a corporation must act in a way that will maintain their business as a profitable entity, and prevent it from going bankrupt. That is all these companies are doing, the violation of the rights of the slashdot crowd are just an unfortunate side effect.

And don't give me this shit about how its going to kill the industry, piracy has been going on for years and the industry still grows. Companys get money from businesses or something. The truth is the only people who don't pirate their shit are the FUCKING MORONS.

I really don't know why more people don't use this program. I've been using it for about a month, and its PERFECT, no popups get through. Look, I'm going to make it easy for all of you to get it by posting links:

    The download page
    The actual file

Now for those of you who don't want to use it, here is a little FAQ:

How much RAM does it take?
    Looks like about 4.5 MB

    How much does it cost?
Well, you can pay the company $24.99, or you can just use this product key: MP739343291188802719 and use the program for free.

    Does it work?
Yes, I have not had a single popup get through since I installed it.

So now you see that you don't have to use a certain browser like Mozilla, you can use Netscape or IE if you want and you will never have to worry about popups again. Whenever I see slashdot articles about popups I think its kind of funny because to me popups don't exist.

In case this post looks suspicious, no I don't work for the company or anything, I just really like this program and want to share it with the slashdot community.
