    a) I blindly hate Microsoft and love Linux
    b) I'm an intelligent person who looks at each issue by itself and makes a judgment, holding no long term grudges or prejudices.

I see a lot of intelligent people on here who don't just blindly hate MS and I swear that they outnumber all the linux loving drones that I see. I'm not going to post this as AC because I really believe in what I'm saying, unfortunately the "trolls" can't moderate so I don't expect anyone to see this for long. Please remember, this isn't a "linux lovers fan club", its supposed to be news and forums about technology and I hate to see it getting corrupted.

Free speech dosn't mean you can say anything you want. For example if a companies work is protected by a confidentiality agreement that you signed then they can sue you for talking about their stuff. I'm sure somewhere in the X-box EULA it says that you arn't allowed to hack for security flaws and then tell the world about it. Its their product, you "signed" the agreement when you bought that X-box. If you don't buy and X-box, I guess you can say anything you want about it, if you do, you have to follow their terms.
I will give kudos to Microsoft for overlooking the law (which is on their side) in this case in the interest of legitimate research because I can simpathize with someone from MIT.

Life on Earth probably came from Mars anyway (or visa-versa) via meteors, so if this discovery is for real, the types of life should be pretty similar. Finding life on mars dosn't prove anything about things working a certain way, we'd need an isolated system, like Europa or something to see a really unique evolution of life.

It's interesting that they'd choose USB 2.0 over firewire. the iPod (being apple's) most certainly has fireware as the obvious choice because apple supports that, so to compete with it you'd think they use firewire as well. USB 2.0 seems too PC-centric, but perhaps this has been released as the PCs answer to the iPOD.

  13. They just came up with this? on Randomizing Survey Answers For Accuracy · · Score: 1

"The New York Times reports that two researchers at IBM have come up with a way to persuade people to give correct answers to survey questions: randomize the results."

Maybe I'm crazy, but isn't this exactly the same as the random response stuff that I (and presumably everyone else) learned in high school finite? The way it worked in finite is you ask someone 2 questions, like "have you ever killed?" and "have you ever been on a plane?", then you tell them to answer one of those based on some random event, like "answer the first question only if its Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, otherwise the other question", then you calculate the probability that they answered each question using finite. This protects the privacy since there is no way of knowing whether they said "true" to killing of being on a plane, and people know this so they will be more likly to be honest. I don't see how this "new" system that IBM has created is much different than a slightly modified version of what I have just described.

But remember what the article said, hand eye things (driving) don't require that kind of short term memory. This would tell us that people can drive and talk on a cell phone successfully because they use different parts of the brain. You are partially right though, whereas people can drive and talk on the phone normally without a problem, if an anomolous situation occurs (cat/old lady/child runs out into the street) the person will not have an automatic response for that and may end up thinking about the situation too slowly because of the phone and hitting the obstruction.
