if that is your net connection at home.. well i hope ya don't plan on playing games for a while.. If it's works.. hehe.. wait till the boss sees the surcharge on this bill!! haha.. either that or your isp will shut ya down quick.. hehe..
face it.. could be worse..
could be hosted on an old 386sx with a 10 gig hdd and you have to login to a bbs to get it...
Man killed while riding his own exiting creation..
hrmm i dont see that annyoing you must be atleast this tall to ride this.. maybe he had to hide the "you must be atlest this stupid to ride this" sign...
hell even if it could not read cd-r cds how long do you think it would take someone to get this combo working:
usb hub + external USB dvd/cdr under linux?
well we may have found a way to get a ps1/ps2 emu running on the thing afterall...
Only 1 question? isn't that like buying a jet taking out the engines.. replacing with prop engines and modding it to go just as fast as before??? hehe oh well it's still got a coolness factor..
Actually the kit comes with a 40 gig hard drive that you actually boot to and store your files. 1 Cd contains the linux source code and the other the runtime enviroment and pdf documentation (so you can reinstall linux on the hard drive. Unfortunately while booted into linux you can not read dvd movies, or play music cds so i do not think you could burn a bunch of mp3's to cd and copy them in.. you would have to ftp or share a directory to copy stuff in through your network.
why bother? well simply because people will buy these on the black market.. not for much..but you get my drift..
psst.. hey wana buy a $500 speedpass for $100 bucks
just making 1 or 2 would not be worth it to the thug.. but say if they could crank em out fast enough they can make back the money on the laptop/transiver and still come out ahead..
The local tollway uses a similar system where you attach a little box to your windshield and drive trhu.. Those are not being duped.. as as far as i know.. but is it because cost per unit and selling would be hard or because no one has thought of it...?
Are speed passes passive? (they have got to be) What ranges do they respond at? 6" 1 foot?
I can just see it now.. a couple of guys/script kiddies.. laptop.. crowded mall. ransiver plugged in.. and downloading speedpass id #.. buy stolen speedpass.. reprogram.. wala.. free gas and burgers!
Finally common sence and placinf of responsibility on parents! it's about friggin time parents are held liable for raising their children the right/wrong way! Tv, media, games, everything ealse has been blamed.. why? because parents refuse to do their part in raising their children. I'm not a parent but the belt and some disipline taught me i could not and should not do certain things. Now parents do whatever and let the kids sit watching tv.
Take for example the incident where a child burned down the family mobile home. They sued Mtv because beavis and butthead kept saying fire and "glorifing" fire. Umm does that mean we can sue movie companies for cheech and chong movies glorifing drugs and causing people's drug problems? no!
I'm sure there are games and movies a bit too gory/bloody/whatever but it's the damn parent's job to keep an eye on the child and explain what good and bad things are.
ok i'm getting off my rant now... sigh.. but it's about damn time!...
Gimme a case that can be used as a fish tank also.. hrmm.. maybe have to feed the fish.. change the filter and make sure none of the fish food gets caught under the cpu.
The holders of the patent for DVD format get a royalty for each DVD, DvD ROM, (and maybe DVRs). So by changing it they make you purchase another player/drive for comp. Thus making them more money.. oh wait won't ya also have to rebuy those movies?? damn.. more royalties.. Oh ya want a backwards compatible DVD player/drive.. even higher cost!!
I've had the Creative labs dvd kit since when it first came out.. i'm happy with it.. I'm not going to rush out and replace my main DVD player in my living room..
George lucas must be pissed he hasn't released Starwars trilogy (not including ep 1) in dvd format.. it's out.. ya buy it.. format changes.. ya rebuy it.. well ya get the drift...
or some sort of prefabed net appliance you hook up to your entertainment system. add in a Goverment run smtp server (hrmm maybe run by the federal post office and they bill your credit card per email sent out) and you have the only furture "legal" pc.. all others would become devices for circumventing the copy protection and thus illegal...
oh and imagine that tag you can't remove from your mattress being firmly attached to that net appliance saying: Do not open this item. To do so you violate laws.
Then pass laws saying that these are the only legal tv's to be sold to the general public lableing all other kinds of pc's terrorist weapons... ok i'm going too far... but then when will we stand up and tell the goverment, and big buisness that they just have!
So if i had purchased one and modded it so it could work with the standard (hypothetically speaking) would i be in violation of the DCMA?
Would i also be in violation of the DCMA if i were to offer these kits or boxes to others?
Next thing i know breathing will be a violation of the DCMA.
here is my question.. i asked it but it's burried further down....
If the DCMA can keep me from writing a program to watch dvd movies i purchased in different countries on my computer. because some script kiddie can use it to grab the movie and distribute it (something not intended)
Can the DCMA keep me from writing a program to emulate battle.net or origin online's servers so i can play the game that i bought from them, on my own lan with friends? (if above is true then it should hold true again...)
most of these games offer ipx lan support. not ip lan support.
Will Origin Online follow up as Blizzard has and start to shut down player run servers? There is a piece of software called sphere that allows you to run your own UO server.
I've been playing their (Games-Workshop)games for 15 years. As i recall somone high up (i belevie owner or pres of blizzard.. i do not rember) in blizard used to work for games workshop. This came up in an interview. i will see if i can find it again.
Basically in the interview he outright said that warcraft was based on fantasy and starcraft on warhammer 40k in a way of paying homage to the games he loved. I do not know if he actually tried to get GW (games Workshop) to give them liscensing rights.
I doubt GW could of won the suit due to likeness but it is so interesting on the similatrities between the two.
On a side note:
If the DCMA can keep me from writing a program to watch my dvd movies bought in a foreighn country on my home computer. Then yes the dcma can keep me from writing a progam to run my own server in my own private network so i can play unsupported games.
So this being the case...
Does the DCMA make it illegal to produce dvd players that are multicode (plays all regieons)? since said dvd player could be used to transfer the movie to vhs.
Does the DCMA make it illegal to write Eumulators to run software on a platform that that software was not intended to run on? (because the company is planing and developing a more expensive version for said os)
Well their copy protection is not the only reason why they would want this... think about it.. There are ads displayed to the players when looking for games or chatting with their script kiddie speak. I barely used their online features because of the rampant cheating and uber kiddies. I allways wanted to be able to play with friends and not have the hastle of having to go thru the local schoolyard full of kindergardeners on crack.
Now look at how halflife cd keys are handeled.. hrmm dont have to play using their servers.. dont have to connect to their service... infact i bet they have less overhead using that system.. sooo.. is the real reason why blizzard wants to own all game servers that their games work on are so that they can "phase out" support for one game and force the people to buy another to play online.. aka what if blizard decided that diablo 2 was not worth keeping on because diablo 3 and 4 is out.. hence.. shut em down... and make em buy diablo 3 or 4 to play online.. (it is an example not for real) or maybe.. They want to be able to search your drives for other games and personal information?
Again.. Corporate America steps and crushes the little guy..

loud cybernetic yelling... Oh My Fucking Maker!! Heeelp me!! Get them off of me!!! Oh my freaking bandwith!! someone spray me with halogen quick!!!
camera pans down to a p100 with a usb cable modem and usb external hard drive that is bursting into flames (all items)
Hahaha i can see it now..
Man killed while riding his own exiting creation..
hrmm i dont see that annyoing you must be atleast this tall to ride this.. maybe he had to hide the "you must be atlest this stupid to ride this" sign...
How much longer till he makes it into the Darwin awards?
