Only 1 question? isn't that like buying a jet taking out the engines .. replacing with prop engines and modding it to go just as fast as before??? hehe oh well it's still got a coolness factor..

Actually the kit comes with a 40 gig hard drive that you actually boot to and store your files. 1 Cd contains the linux source code and the other the runtime enviroment and pdf documentation (so you can reinstall linux on the hard drive. Unfortunately while booted into linux you can not read dvd movies, or play music cds so i do not think you could burn a bunch of mp3's to cd and copy them in .. you would have to ftp or share a directory to copy stuff in through your network.

Finally common sence and placinf of responsibility on parents! it's about friggin time parents are held liable for raising their children the right/wrong way! Tv, media, games, everything ealse has been blamed.. why? because parents refuse to do their part in raising their children. I'm not a parent but the belt and some disipline taught me i could not and should not do certain things. Now parents do whatever and let the kids sit watching tv.

Take for example the incident where a child burned down the family mobile home. They sued Mtv because beavis and butthead kept saying fire and "glorifing" fire. Umm does that mean we can sue movie companies for cheech and chong movies glorifing drugs and causing people's drug problems? no!

I'm sure there are games and movies a bit too gory/bloody/whatever but it's the damn parent's job to keep an eye on the child and explain what good and bad things are.

ok i'm getting off my rant now... sigh .. but it's about damn time!...

    heh.. the true reason....

The holders of the patent for DVD format get a royalty for each DVD, DvD ROM, (and maybe DVRs). So by changing it they make you purchase another player/drive for comp. I've had the Creative labs dvd kit since when it first came out.. i'm happy with it.. I'm not going to rush out and replace my main DVD player in my living room..

George lucas must be pissed he hasn't released Starwars trilogy (not including ep 1) in dvd format.. it's out.. ya buy it .. format changes .. ya rebuy it.. well ya get the drift...

Can the DCMA keep me from writing a program to emulate battle.net or origin online's servers so i can play the game that i bought from them, on my own lan with friends? (if above is true then it should hold true again...)

most of these games offer ipx lan support. not ip lan support.

Will Origin Online follow up as Blizzard has and start to shut down player run servers? There is a piece of software called sphere that allows you to run your own UO server.

So in the end can blizzard use the line:

All your servers are belong to us!

This came up in an interview. i will see if i can find it again. Basically in the interview he outright said that warcraft was based on fantasy and starcraft on warhammer 40k in a way of paying homage to the games he loved. I do not know if he actually tried to get GW (games Workshop) to give them liscensing rights. I doubt GW could of won the suit due to likeness but it is so interesting on the similatrities between the two. On a side note: If the DCMA can keep me from writing a program to watch my dvd movies bought in a foreighn country on my home computer. Then yes the dcma can keep me from writing a progam to run my own server in my own private network so i can play unsupported games. So this being the case... Does the DCMA make it illegal to produce dvd players that are multicode (plays all regieons)? since said dvd player could be used to transfer the movie to vhs. Does the DCMA make it illegal to write Eumulators to run software on a platform that that software was not intended to run on? (because the company is planing and developing a more expensive version for said os)

Well their copy protection is not the only reason why they would want this... think about it .. There are ads displayed to the players when looking for games or chatting with their script kiddie speak. I barely used their online features because of the rampant cheating and uber kiddies. I allways wanted to be able to play with friends and not have the hastle of having to go thru the local schoolyard full of kindergardeners on crack. Now look at how halflife cd keys are handeled.. hrmm dont have to play using their servers.. dont have to connect to their service... infact i bet they have less overhead using that system .. sooo .. is the real reason why blizzard wants to own all game servers that their games work on are so that they can "phase out" support for one game and force the people to buy another to play online.. aka what if blizard decided that diablo 2 was not worth keeping on because diablo 3 and 4 is out.. hence .. shut em down... and make em buy diablo 3 or 4 to play online.. (it is an example not for real) or maybe.. They want to be able to search your drives for other games and personal information? Again .. Corporate America steps and crushes the little guy..
