First you assume that you a parent doesn't teach their child gun safety. For non gun owners the idea of teaching children gun safety seems like you're encouraging them to chew glass, gun owners often recognize the value of teaching a child how to safely handle a gun and to respect it much like crossing the street ("No tommy, cars kill people, i'll never teach you to cross the street.") This also would assume that my child got a huge crow bar and broke into my safe. This also assumes you're also statistically unlucky. In 2000 80 children under the age of 15 died due to firearm accidents according the 2001 edition of Injury Facts by the National Safety Council. 120 suffocated on ingested objects, 660 were burned to death in a fire, 800 drowned, 100 were poisoned by solids or liquids, 140 died falling....the only thing that ranked lower was poisonin by gasses and vapors with 20 deaths. As you can see kids do get killed each year by firearms accidents, but you'd better worring about a locking bathtub and toilet covers or children drinking bleach if you want to do it "for the children."
We've taken your normally reliable simple system meant to be used in a life saving panic and added complicated electronics. I get frustrated when my servers don't work. If my gun's kernel panics instead of shooting I'll just be pissed. Or dead. Either way.
than I would be, because I'd be talking to a lawyer and seeing what I could do about that libelous letter. Extortion seems like a pretty serious allegation to make about someone and their business.
Way to go for both of them for being stand up guys and taking the $10k out of their pocket to give it to charity since the tight lawyer couldn't part with it.
It all seems like very strong words for people with essentially no leverage at all. Give us control or we'll break a large number of websites for our citizens and hardly inconvenience anyone in the US. Yeah that'll work so go ahead and try it and lets see who capitulates in a month. Maybe next time I'm late for work they'll stuff my pockets full of money to weight me down as punishment.
Unless of course you don't worry about the off chance that billy wardriver is listening to you order a pizza or talk to your mom.
But hey I send email in clear text and use cordless phones without security still too, maybe I'm old fashioned.
I'd looked into these a month ago and this is the most positive review I've seen. Most reviews rate it as ok but flawed.
I'm a geek and work for a VOIP provider. I'd like one just because it'd be fun to roam around work, home, and who knows where else without paying roaming or using cell time. I live in a rural area thought and wifi just doesn't reach far enough to get service in a whole lot of places either in the country or in town around a brick wall.
I just don't see it as much more than a toy unless you live in an urban area dense with wifi points. And plan to remain on that AP for the duration of the call.
Maybe soon we can be taxes as much as I am on my home phone line too. Hopefully ISPs will be required to provide 100% uptime for all connections too because when I dial 911 I need 911 no matter how many times I'm reminded that its not the same on my IP phone. I'd also like to see federally mandated padding on all sharp corners in my house.
Maybe its just me, but I actually feel like I'm more productive if I dress up for work. I wind up getting more into getting stuff done than usual.
I think I heard it put once something like the lines of dress for football and a game will break out...except far more eloquently. Its a sports analogy so I didn't pay as close attention as I should have.
Anyway I've always thought it was kind of shame how casual everything is, dress wear can make people look really good. If it fits and its made of the right material it can be quite comfortable too...the ironing and purchase cost I can live without however.
It seems like some of the largest supports are the huge star trek fans with shatner underoos and a model warp enging humming in their bedroom, but the same group is also the most vocal for saying good riddance. I like star trek, I loved growing up watching TNG. I just got UPN last year so I missed out on the first few seasons of enterprise. I really on the whole like what I've seen since then. I get the feeling that alot of fans are too much into going "OOOOOOOOOOO but that breaks star trek rules in episode 426 scottie tried that and the wormhole collapsed because tetrayon particles are unstable in subspace!!!!" instead of giving a little creative license to the writers.
I guess it depends on your needs, but I found this to be an excellent solution in that its quiet, cheap, low power consumption, plus it acts as an itunes server.

I'm quite happy with my piles of trash that are protected by IP. Every night I go home and read a book written by someone who, chances are wouldn't write if they weren't protected by IP laws, since they have to pay the rent. Sometime I'd like to publish a book and have it protected as well. I believe in the intellectual property rights that protect my favorite OS, FreeBSD. You can't just out right copy it to refine it, you must respect the authors wishes and follow the BSDL. Right now I'm listening to my Ipod, which I chose for the excellent UI which is protected by those laws. If it wasn't profitable for them to write that software I very well might now enjoy this little device now. I'm listening to MP3s by artists who many probably wouldn't be releasing music if it were not profitable.
In general I work to life, and I respect others right to do the same and protect their livelyhood. I invite you to release a book, CD, or software with no IP protection but allow me the freedom to choose if I would like that protection. I'm working on some software that I would like to release into the public domain eventually, but I also see the uses for protection of my IP.
While I wish we could be freely trading music, cds, movies, software, etc most people don't have the money to produce quality merchandise just for fun or relying on the good nature of people to pay them for doing so. I wonder how a $20 million movie would do if the studio shot it, setup a torrent and then asked for donations if you liked the movie just to cover the production costs of it. Think they'd make $100k in a year?
Perhaps you feel its a human right but I do not. The latest pop hit isn't going to extend anyones life or bring about world piece. If I spend my time producing intellectual property that I want to profit on, that is entirely my choice. People gotta' make a living and we aren't all coal miners. Free reproduction doesn't cover the cost of the inital production, let alone provide motivation to many people to produce now IP. But hey I'm a capitalist.
I sincerely hope you weren't joking or channeling RMS or I'm embarassed:D
Don't be a wack job and use phrases like "thoughtcrimes" when you're talking about someone being busted for downloading britney spears. P2P is a great idea and has many uses, but if you're giving others music you dont own a copyright or licence for....hey I'm sorry you got busted but don't take other peoples creations. Change your cause from wanting to get something for free to something more useful like say getting rid of that pesky DMCA because I should be able to watch a movie I bought, or intimidation against researchers and I might be with you.
New management coming on trying make the network "hip" destroyed the flagship show, made everyone there hate their jobs, and it just went from there I think.
Most broadband isp's sell their home service packages as a "best effort" service, where they will try to meet that speed, but they won't guarentee it. If you want guarentees you're going to have pay alot more money, just like they do. SLA's aren't for $30 a month plans.
That does hold true for p2p apps, but it doesn't for viruses that would otherwise cause problems on the LAN also effectively denying others service. Proactive scanning of PCs on the lan for viruses and even vulnerabilities helps to ensure the security of the lan and the availability of its resources. If you don't think that is in your best interest you would be more than welcome to get your own isp or something I would imagine.
Being unable to access the internet at all would hinder them more though. Bandwidth is expensive, and in a dorm it can easily be sucked down into nothing by p2p apps. Which is better, forbid p2p in what might prevent one or two students from doing something academic with it, allow it under the guise of academic freedom but causing a slowdown to the extent that no one else can do homework, or increase housing costs to cover the bandwidth used? Practicality is the point, not trying to be mean.
I wonder what happens when you apply excessive and unnecessary ammounts of current across the chip:) "hmmmmm must be broken, you can see the image printed on the passport is still me though"
Tektronix/Xerox Phaser 850DP that was got with that deal. The print out quality is decent, I would rank it very low for color accuracy and the the like though. The wax sticks are great for not drying up and being easy to replace. On the downside one color stick runs about $35. I would say the price is quite comparable to that of inkjet cartridges. You have to really do some serious printing to keep them free too. Our has broken down numerous times as well. If you are a high volume shop printing alot of statements or something, it might be worth going for, although I would still keep a backup printer just in case, we needed it many times. Overall its okay, but I think you could do better.

It won't end until amazon patents getting absurd patents. Then its over.
You forgot nazis. Berman loves him some nazis.

Actually guinness is quite thin and watery. Try a real stout if you want a meal ;)

I assume that proprietary hardware keeping hackers out from swapping drives and the like is just an added bonus heh...
The slashdot readers who didn't get the sarcasm of that review are the smartest people here. Don't question them when they go "8, WTF?!?!".

Apple ipods are awesome. It may not be cutting edge any more but it is an expensive gadget. And actually useful unlike most.
