Well that's simple really. Why OWN slaves to run a factory? That's dangerous work and work-ending injurys were common. Imagine the losses of you still had to pay for that person or lose the money you spent by putting them down.
In a way I'd agree. The point of the exercise was really just to demonstrate pattern-free music. I think this could be used in a more artistic fashion, perhaps running loops of the piece played in different "axis" for instance rotate the grid 90 degrees. One could add patterns of different sizes to counterpoint as well. I'm surprised they used a person and not a Disclavier, a real piano that can be MIDI controlled, to write something much more complex.
But again, that's creating a pattern by using the patternless super pattern. So that wasn't the point of the exercise.
The problem with "borders" is entirely Israel. The more I have looked at the history of the region, the more Israel is dead wrong and should not be supported. The Palistinians are the NATIVE residents of the region, with a claim in the real world that goes back just as far as the Jewish Bible.
What's going on is just like Apartid in South Africa or the white takeover PC Native Americans or Saddam Hussain gassing Kurds and has no place in modern society. Palistinians are native inhabitants of the land the Jews want. Just like the "Indian wars" in the USA, Settlers from Israel are building homesteads and businesses on land already under international treaty to Palistinians, then claim "terrorism" when that land is contested back. The gig is up if Palistine gets declared a "State" because then Israel gets properly accused of "invasion" rather than just run of the mill domestic oppression.
And that's the point. When you pay for support, you are paying for somebody to be ready to help. That's expensive. But when you have $10k per hour on the line that kind of money is a bargin the one time in the year you really get stuck. I'd add it's fun to be the hero in an IT situation... Then you grow up and want to do the same work that took 60 hours in the normal 40 to do other things. Careful use of support contracts is how you make that happen... IT is funner when it's boring.

Maybe this is a non-critical business that can afford time to fix things. But if the CIO thinks lack of payed support makes your team MORE valuable, it ALWAYS backfires. IT is always expendable.. The question is not how much support costs. The question is how much is DOWNTIME going to cost the company?
When you hit a problem your team can't solve what dollar value is that? Granted, for anything using a LAMP stack it is probably just as efficient to spin up a new server and start over versus a lot of money for support that isn't going to figure out all your custom stuff anyway.
I swear by IBM System i with IBM support. It's outrageously expensive, but they will call support engineers after hours when you have a problem level 2 can't handle. Microsoft's comparible offerings require a thousand seats.. IBM will sell you support for just one server.
In my case we have three steel mills worth $10k+ per hour of downtime... Even more if downtime causes rework. If we have more than an hour down I have vice presidents in my bosses office!
I suppose it's up to poster's boss, those C.I.O. Letters make it his decision... and his ass will be on the line when you have to explain why he didn't line up something to cover for things the minions can't handle.

It was abuse because Redbox and Netflix bought the DVDs on the same OPEN market lots of other video rental places use. Right up until the studios asserted rights over the end market that they didn't have... And told OPEN markets not to sell product to them.
Their business uses DVDs "just like a book" so there is no "copyright" issue... First sale was clearly interfered with, enen when Redbox and Netflix were buying the properly labeled "rental" versions.
You have to physically swipe the card at Redbox kiosks. So how would "somebody" use the card but you not report it stolen?
I could see how the credit card company would leave you on the hook even if the card was stolen because there's no way to PROVE you don't have the items, the charge is recurring, and the total is just under the $50 liability limit so it's not their problem.
It's always supposed to be national... Since the system was established in cold war days. It hasn't really been practical to fully test ALL of it at the same time before.
There's only 4 providers now. They all change terms so often you're left with NO phone providers after 6 months!!!!
The whole problem with these wireless terms now is that I had to make a 2-year deal based on advertising. Now 1 year into the deal they don't want to provide ALL the features promised... And I can't get that feature from somebody ELSE now and i could have PAID SOMEBODY ELSE just a little more. If I was using this to equip my staff for a business I would be pissed... Because I just had 25-50+ people sign up for something they can't use to do work now.
Except that the choice of Tennessee which is clearly more than 100 mile from any border is clearly to monitor INTERSTATE traffic. It is a choke point for major highways north and south, and east and west. It is grasping at straws because they have no control over borders 500+ miles away. Also, the government may not STOP you from OBTAINING a lawful license except for violation of SPECIFIC laws. They are not allowed to say a woman or a Mormon cannot GET a license... That makes it a RIGHT.
The "license" to operate does not grant the state some magic ability to attack other RIGHTS that have nothing to do with safe operation... Like stopping you to look for drugs.
But you all miss the point! Driving a car has conditions on operating the equipment. THAT IS ALL. Your PASSENGERS have a right to travel freely because they are not "operating" anything.
WHERE you drive your car is a RIGHT. WHAT you carry in your car is a RIGHT. WHO you carry in your car is a RIGHT. WHEN you drive your car is a RIGHT.
A RIGHT is anything I can do without Question or interference as long as I abide by the public safety rules.
The list of agencies shows that the upper 10% group really doesn't understand what the government does. Energy makes sure that factories have power now and in the future. Interior makes sure ships that carry your stuff have proper weather maps and that your buildings have good foundations. HUD makes sure the unwashed masses aren't filling up your streets and can show up for work. All these departments directly affect the bottom lines of the top 1% and that's why they STAY funded. The information provided is far more valuable than the cost... If just 1 billion dollar skyscraper fell down from bad design a whole department is paid for! Much of this information can only be collected or processed by the government because of property issues and the sheer amount of cash needed up front.

Exactly! That $10 dead tree (about $2 to make) takes $1 Million in machinery to produce efficiently. Even "on demand" bookmaking is still 10x more per copy. Amazon will kill the market and the only books available will be $300 textbooks due to low demand.
Then the Moral Majority will crack down on Amazon selling "offensive" books... That aren't approved by a rabbi, a priest, and a pastor.

Better yet, you start getting ads because your daughter was looking up stuff about preventing pregnancy.
