We are talking about numerous Arab people picked off of American streets and out of American homes in the wake of Sept 11, not those Arabs caught in Afghanistan/etc.
At least, I thought we were.

Do you really think that the media wouldn't be ALL OVER an instance where the government has taken a legitimate citizen?
I dont, actually. The past year and a bit has seen a rise of over 1400% in anti-Arab hate crimes, 4000 dead afghani civilians, numerous ties drawn between Bush and the bin Laden family (and exemptions given to them, such as leaving the country on Sept. 12 & 13, 2001), many thousands of arrests of arab males with families (all the hijackers and other known terrorists had none here), and so on.
Few have recieved anything more than a passing mention in the little scroll bar at the bottom of your TV.
Oh, you gave them an official apology. How comforting for them when they recieved only a small fraction of the wealth you stole from them at the beginning of the war.
It's nice to know that in 20 years, you will free the arabs you have locked away (which, ironically enough, protects them from the massive surge of anti-Arab hate crimes which has consumed America), and give them a 'formal apology,' and all will be good once again.
American media is less a reliable source of news than it is a source of laughable sensationalism.
Mod me down, but it is no secret that CNN and it's ilk dedicate more news to dead white girls than black girls, teen violence than the more prevalent domestic violence, and video games than underfunded schools and social programs.
It is an unfortunate truth that there are people who haven't ceased to be amazed by the distortion such practices put on most of the American public.
Before video games, there were violent children. Before TV, there were violent children. Before any kind of technology aside from flint and shale, there were likely violent kids.
In fact, there is less teen violence now, than there was in the 1950s (I dont have a link, I regret, but I studied this issue loosely in a university English class). Teen violence is just another demonized aspect of our society. It is exaggerated profusely by our media, which is really less news than it is total sensationalism.
In the 1970s, a kid in Britain dressed up like Alex from Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange,' and beat the crap out of some people. Britain went nuts, banned the movie from Britain for many years. I think you will all agree that that was a scapegoat for bad parenting/schooling or what have you. The same thing is happening with video games now.
Instead of tackling the larger problems of broken homes, inadequate counseling for troubled students, increasing domestic violence, politicians will get more votes by appealing to what all confused parents 'know,' and ban video games.
A recent NIMH study showed that violent video games do not increase the agressiveness of boys -- in girls it increases to a level near that of boys.
So, all in all: youth violence is down, media is sensationalizing the issue, video games are an easy scapegoat, scapegoats get votes, real problems are never admitted, and video games are not proven to make people commit crimes.
Psychotic kids play video games, video games do not make kids psychotic.
You laugh, but I have done this with 4 different bands so far. One responded to me with thanks for beer money.
It serves a dual purpose: They get far more money than they would with a tiny royalty, and it opens their eyes to the fact that they could be a whole lot richer if they found business model apart from the RIAA.
No. It's not that we are richer that makes terrorists hate us, it is because we have accumulated our wealth by maintaining power over Arab nations. We are doing it right now, if you haven't noticed. We want control over all the oil in the Middle East (control not being the same as access), and we do it through economic or conventional warfare.
If you read Osama bin Ladens letters to us (or whoever's they are, it is irrelevant), you see that he doesn't care so much about religious or quality of life differences. He makes numerous references to retaliatory motives. Religion is only his vessel of deployment.
The point of all the recent laws and bills is not to stop terrorists so much as it is, to quote Carlin, fuck you in the ass any time they want, as long as you let them.
No indefinite and unjust jail time, regulation of WiFi, or reading every email will every stop terrorists from trying. And as long as they try, they will succeed occasionally.
Does anyone think any of these laws are going to stop terrorism? Slow it down? The only way to stop terrorism, and I know I will take some flammage for this, is to redesign the foreign policies of all Western nations, not just the U.S.
There is a reason terrorists hate us, and it's not our religion, or our surplus of freedoms. It is that we continually bomb and economically rape countries poorer than us -- bully them into submission. And, if that doesn't work, its obviously cause we haven't bombed them enough, so we bomb them some more.
It's a vicious circle; We bomb, they bomb, we bomb, they take flying lessons, we bomb... what next?
P2P is not to blame. There are many ways to download files. I prefer newsgroups over P2P, personally. They are faster, and you don't have to worry about jackass kazaa users ending your send so they can download Kobe_Tai(XXX)_cumshot.mpg
Or, use irc.criten.net, where the warez rooms have 3000+ users.
Hell, there are so many ways to send files, and nearly all of them are superior to P2P. The only good thing about P2P is the availiability of mp3s -- the slection you have to choose from. Other than that, only one in 200 people send at rates over 70k/sec.
You didn't close your tag correctly.
You don't want to hurt yourself.
For a pioneer of mass connectivity, he sure does have a boring webpage.
This is not about Europe. This is about America, and what is happening in America.
Besides, I am sure the Europeans you listed have their own counterparts to myself hounding them for their indifference over such matters.
I never understood the "they did it too" excuse. Imagine if other countries started dropping nuclear missiles, and said "well, America did it."

HRW reports 17 fold increase, I had previously read 14 fold from alternet.org.
Two sources, almost same results.

I tried to look at the Dean Kamen dinner party pictures....
This guy really need to take a photography class.

They know it is JUST A MOVIE don't they?
I believe a fair amount of adults dont think it is just a movie.
but classroom can provide a clear direction and help filter the stupid stuff from the essential stuff
Yeah right! My first CS classes taugh me java!
Not only is it not essential, it is not useful.
(This is not a joke, mod me funny if you want, but Java is lame in almost every way.)
This will likely be reduced to the MPAA burying this company in legal costs.
Justice isn't won when a large corporation sues a small company, it is bought. Don't kid yourself.

Actually, if you remembered groudhog day at all, you would see the humour in ACs post.
This is where the trees grow legs and start a bloody crusade to rid the soil of human meddling, right?
If I remember correctly, some scientists will develop an airborne spray to stop them.
Or maybe they would just pay the neighbors kid $50 a week to scoop the shit into a wheelbarrow and spray off his deck every morning?
Something tells me money isn't a prob for this guy.
Microsoft said they were looking for new strategies to counter the rise of linux, but who woulda thought they'd go this far?
Uncultured American pig Dogs.
All I have to say is ew! Ew! Ew! Ew!!!

I've been seeing these problems pop up quite a bit on any tech forums.

In our atmosphere, light travels at approximately the speed of sound.
