...who does not trust some Russian cracker more, than some scientists?
Seriously, those are the guys who normally maintain botnets for a living, create pretty much every crack out there (the elite in cracking definitely is Russian), etc.
OK, I don’t really trust anyone of them, but prefer to have double and thrice checks by (actually) opposing groups, coming to the same resulting conclusions.
But trusting some weird guy from who knows where, who claims something that just so happens to fit with the goals of some other criminals (Big Oil , FOX News friends, etc.), just strikes me as being very counter-intuitive.
(I do not make a judgment here, as they still could be right. But just that for natural reasons, they will have a much harder time, making me believe their statements.)
Wait, I forgot something very important. I forgot that I’m talking to an American audience, and the current situation.
Please don’t associate me with that huge gold scam that FOX news is pushing down the nation’s throats right now. Because that’s exactly what I’m opposing.
Right now, as we head out of e “recession”, of course, the value of gold, relative to the dollar, is going to fall dramatically. So of course now the want you to buy as much as possible from them. So you make the loss that becomes their profit!
So right now, gold is probably the worst idea of all!
I’m really sorry for creating those wrong impressions. It’s just, that normally, gold is the most reliable and independent currency. But that situations like right now are a huge exception from this rule!
If you can separate those two concepts... the bigger basic reliability and independence... and the scam that happens if you buy gold right now... then you’re good.
What? You got a contract! If you don’t trust him at all, you expect that he first pays, via bank transfer. If you trust him enough to know you could prosecute him by court, you expect him in the next days, via bank transfer.
But of course, the whole concept of that imaginary money with no real value, is fucked up in the first place.
Wanna buy a car from me? Simple: Let your bank give you the money in gold. Then pay me with that. Simple as that. Works especially well, if you can’t trust the currency in your country, to still be worth anything, tomorrow. Or if you don’t want to play along in the banks’ big scam in the first place. Also: Why not? It’s pretty cool to pay in real gold.:) You have to try it once. Gives you a real feeling for the worth of it. Only imagining the amount of work that you need to get it, makes that feeling any more real.:)
What you’re left with, is fantasy paper bills and coins, with a purely imaginary value, and some numbers in some database, that are even more imaginary in value.
Instead of it being linked to something with actual value, which would prevent the biggest scam in history: 1. They lend you imaginary “money”, which is just a made-up number on a piece of paper, “justified” by 3% of that in gold lying in some vault and the debt of someone else to the bank. 2. The money goes around in the market, constantly losing “value” (“inflation”) because of some intentionally created events, so everybody gets less from that same bill, and has to work, to make up for the difference. 3. When it’s very low, there just happens to be a “recession”, and the banks get a “bailout” or in some other way get a huge amount of money back, which by now is worth only a fraction of what it was worth at point 1. 4. Now the value of money starts to rise again, because of other intentional events. 5. When the value is high enough, now the banks have the power to buy much more with it, that they had to invest to get the money in the first place. Or they even/partially got it for free. 6. Rinse and repeat. Meanwhile the banks can buy new work and power, because they just made a huge PROFIT!!!
Therefore, and because every cent you put in the bank, is used to create more dependency on the banks in others, I avoid banks and that imaginary money as much as possible in this society. I also plan, if I ever make a MMO game, that the ingame cash will be based on the gold standard. And therefore have a natural exchange rate with other currencies. It also will be the only stable currency in times of “recession” and not give the banks anything for free. (Who themselves of course always keep their own money in gold or physical property form by the way.) So people can say: Fuck the dollar, the euro, the pound, the yen, etc. And use my currency to stay free from the scam. (Of course I expect to need a standing army to prevent the shit storm they will put on me for doing that to their “cattle”. But hey, maybe if I create some “special” ingame “missions”.;))
P.S.: Maybe I have seen Fight Club once to often.;) But you have to admit, that there’s some truth in that all.
it was slightly faster than the university's 512-core supercomputer and cost less than 4000EUR.
but tests reveal the 13 GPUs deliver 3.75x more performance than the old system.
It is impossible, to make such general statements about the performance, for something that is still very much specialized on long pipelines and streams of repetitive data (vector processing).
They may be much faster for tasks that fit that scheme. But slower for those that don’t.
For private (life) planning, nothing beats ThinkingRock. I use if for a long time. And nothing can come close, because nothing implements the Getting Things Done ideas in a more complete or better way.
Also since it’s Java, made out of NetBeans modules, and open source, it’s dead easy to add new modules/functions.
The best thing is, that the developer and his asssistant / forum manager are very personal and you can directly talk with them. They answer your questions, are nice people, and care for their community. You can pay them back via PayPal.
I can sync the events with every PIM that can read and write iCal files. And I generate my own data by simply working with the project file, which is in XML file format.
Well, you can even create multiple snapshots, and so if you have to make a big descision in a game, you can actually choose to go both ways! I call that a great function!:)
I know how. It’s called IBM. The ones that the Athlon technology came from. Every time Intel gets too strong, IBM helped AMD out. Which of course was, because it helped themselves. But not a bad thing for us too.
Your comment does not hit the core of the problem, though. The core is, that Intel threatened to not sell chips to mainboard makers anymore, if they would make a board for the Athlon. I know this very well, because I tried to buy such a board. And even months after the chips were out, I only had the choice between two obscure Asian companies and a tiny German one. That German one strangely went bankrupt, two years later, and I bet the Asian ones were those Chinese knockoff companies who had nothing to lose anyway.
Oh, and the quality. Oh boy. I was able to reliably overclock cheap 533 MHz CPUs to 900 MHz. They ran for five years without trouble, before they were replaced. I saved a lot of money that way.:)
My last information is, that the dark matter theory’s problems are already explained with conventional models, for at least a year.
And about dark energy: There is a very simple solution for it: If you theory predicts a value, and measurements in nature show a different one, then...
FIX YOUR DAMN THEORY!
Seriously, I have never seen a bigger epic fail in all of science. It’s pulling us all in the same dirt where stuff like the “electric universe”, “creationism” and “cube time” reside in:
The ignorance of standing by one’s own beliefs, even in the face of utterly crushing facts, blatantly ignoring them or calling nature “wrong”.
In a way, it’s like saying that gravity doesn’t exist, because you choose to believe otherwise.
In psychology, such thought patterns are known as the start of what could become a schizophrenia. (Modern psychology can also see groups of people as some kind of “individual”/“lifeform”, as the same behaviors and properties can be seen in them (and partially higher or lower sets of the fractal that is the universe).)
Good morning Mr OverTheTop Bias! How are you today?;)
Still not getting the point of Linux?
Protip: It’s not meant to be “easy to use”. You don’t expect a specialized professional machine to be easy to use. Try using it anyway, and it kills you. I’s supposed to work like that. ^^
That’s because your request is bullshit, because it is deliberately written in a way, that does not touch the problem we are actually talking about: Deletionism. (Or the non-acceptance of non-groupthink.)
What is the real problem, is tons of stuff that in inputted with good faith, and the knowing that it it is true, being deleted for reasons that are nothing other than retarded lies and excuses, or blatantly obvious territory behavior that you would expect from three year olds.
The basis of the problem, is the “one global groupthink truth“ concept. Even when for most things, the physical truth can not even be determined!
And then there is the retarded and completely arbitrary “relevance” criteria. Based on the personal preferences of a small elite of Wikipedia admins. It’s just as every dictatorship. But then again, if you own the server...
And this is why the only Wiki I will ever be able to take seriously, must be a distributed one (p2p)! (Preferably with cascading trust relationship profiles. So everyone has his own Wikipedia, made of the content that his network of trust trusts in, and non-influencable by dogmatic idiots.)
And yes, I realize there might be “legitimate” reasons for keeping the source out of law enforcement&s hands [...]
WTH? Machine code IS source code! Just in another language that is a tiny bit harder to read (assisted by tools). So there really is no real point in hiding the source code. Everybody who wants to look at what it does, can still do that. How else would the CPU know what to do with it?
It’s sad, when even on Slashdot, people think that “closed” source would be anymore than security trough obscurity theater.
RTFA: “Observations by the Infrared Optical Telescope Array found that, at minimum radius, Chi Cygni shows marked inhomogeneities due to roiling "hotspots" on its surface.”
I have a fascinating business model, that can completely solve all the now visible problems (and some more) with treating digital data / ideas/thoughts as a product, and selling it. It also gets completely rid of the need for a concept like copyright, and is backwards compatible. But unfortunately it is too long to be included in this comment.;)
(Actually I really do! I posted it as a comment, some days ago. But I can’t find it anymore. I hope I can soon set up a web page with the details soon.)
I think you agree that we should stop to argue in either-or style here. Clearly, it’s neither right of those criminals, to rely on the vulnerability of their victims as a defense, NOR, to trap someone with a e.g. building something that crumbles on first touch, and then suing him for destroying it.
It’s the intention of it. Which we can’t see. But that does not mean it doesn’t exist. And here lies the gross error of the law: It pretends that that aspect, because it can’t be directly observed, “does not exist”. And then simplifies its rules, based on that false assumption. That way, the law would be wrong either way.
I think that we’re in the freakin’ 21st century. And I expect legislation to come up with a clever and elegant logic trick to make this intention provable. Get scientists to help you! But stop ignoring something, because you still think “psychology is ‘not real’”!:)
You DID take a shit on the moon!
And as usual, an Indian is the lucky one, who finds it!
Proquestion: How is the machine code not open? Do you have an in-CPU decryptor, or what?
If only one person bought it, to use it for that purpose, you can bet it’s out there on the file sharing networks, free to download. :D

Remeber guys: Someone stating something does not make it true. Unless his sense of reality is stronger than yours, and you cave in.

If only VMs weren’t so horribly slow.
You are aware of the fact, that the American* definition of “freedom” has nothing to do with what freedom actually means, right? ^^
(Actually, pretty much every government has twisted that definition beyond FUBAR. See Germany, North Korea, China, etc, etc, etc.)

And ubergeeks prefer a shell for their Emacs VM. ;)
I don’t get these comments about IE required for corporate intranet. I’ve never seen something like that.

Hence I don’t even know what to answer to that... Except that it most definitely wasn’t what I was saying. :)
