I'll take an invite. I was so pessimistic about this but I haven't seen one bad thing said about it. I absolutely abhor facebook's interface. I can't stand it.
I think a cool feature of Steam is the ability to play your games across different PCs with only a net connection needed. I got bored with Star Trek online and gave my steam credentials to my nephew so that he can level up my character for me (He made up his own character though...lil bastard). I just gave him the name and password over email and he was off and running. Granted I probably can't play while he is playing, but that was the only steam game I own so it wasn't an issue. I think I would buy New Vegas for PS3 though because I am so sick of sitting at my desk that I'd rather play on the couch on my 50" TV (Plus my Oblivion experience was on PS3 so it would be a natural feel).
Super post. I was agreeing with parent for purely emotional reasons, but you have pointed out that it couldn't have happened any other way. I'm glad their dead...for the sake of the story.
From "History of the term 'Telephone Sanitizer'": ...but there was a big swath of middle-classdom where the lady of the house would do most of the cleaning... a trade of travelling toilet cleaners emerged. They would also fix common problems, like leaking valves.
And thus, the first porn movie plot was conceived in London, England, ca 1920.
(Dick Van Dyke Mary Poppins fictional Brit Accent) "Ehlloh ma lady! I 'ere you got yoreself a leaking valve"
I just didn't understand what the problem was. He went into a store and they said "We're out of the range and the Google and things that the phone comes with, they won't work on it". Yet he said his T-mobile internet access works in that area? I think he was misinterpreting what she was saying. Either that or someone left their mentally challenged siblings in charge of the store while they went to lunch.
I mean, was it a coverage problem? And if so, why didn't he experience this same problem with his current phone?
Hey, Commander. In Quasar Delema, you used the auxiliary of Deck-B for Gamma Over-ride. But, online blueprints clearly indicate that Deck-B is independent of the Kined Matrix. We were just wondering where the error lies in that...
Well that sounds like something a PC would say, not an Apple.
Use Outlook and connect to GMAIL through IMAP, then save off your email to a.PST file via the Import/Export tool.

I use Outlook to retrieve my gmail via IMAP. It appears that only the headers and subject line are downloaded all at once. Only until you open an individual email will it actually download the rest (including attachments).
Agreed. Michael Griffin is telling Congress "Don't screw with our 'budgetary allocations' just to get this bloated science project off the ground, come up with the funding some other way". And by using your argument, ADDING a shuttle flight to the schedule would be cost prohibitive. If Sen Nelson is going to whine about it, he should put up or shutup.
Well that goes without saying. Given enough Money, Time, and People, sure you can do anything right? I guess NASA has gotten the shaft from congress so many times they they are putting the onus on them to continue the project by coming up with the funds instead of diverting funds from other equally important NASA projects.
It was designed to be placed in the shuttle bay. The designers are saying it is too late in the game to redesign it to fit on top of a rocket. The Orlando Sentinel has a decent write up.
"Another idea is launching the spectrometer aboard an expendable rocket, at a cost estimated last year at $254 million to $564 million. That would also require a redesign of the spectrometer, which was custom-designed by NASA to fit the shuttle's payload bay at a cost so far of about $65 million.
Ting dismissed the idea.
"It's a bit late to put it on a rocket," he said."
If I were to make a software analogy from the designers point of view, I would imagine it would be like writing a piece of software for say, Windows, ready to be deployed and then the customer says "Sorry, I want that in linux".
If I were to make a software analogy from NASA's point of view, I would probably be typing way too long and I don't really care that much.
And if you want to pull your music off without any tools then, actually, iTunes will help you do that.
1) Put the iPod in harddrive mode
2) in iTunes go into the options and choose a temp directory as your "music directory"
3) while your in the options dialog, make sure "Have iTunes organize my music and copy to music directory" is checked (it will organize it in this temp directory)
4) Import the hidden music directory on the iPods harddrive into iTunes.
5) Voila! iTunes will create every directory and rename every file and copy it to your temp directory, even the encrypted mPa's. Use QTFairuse for those.
I think you will find this daily show clip funny. Apparently the "Gates of Hell" that McCain referenced in the R Prez debates is located in Pennsylvania. (warning: forced video ads in the link)
Well that's what is cool about subscribing (it's a great resource). If you have chosen the "remember me" checkbox, then when you click on a link to EE in google you go to a page with NO ads and the solution. My point is that it is something that is worth it to ME to pay in order to supress ads and get information. Didn't say it was for everyone.
We already have lots of product placement. I don't mind it if it's made part of the show. That's unobtrusive to me and hell, it's somewhat subliminal. Isn't that the holy grail of advertisement? "I like your product but I don't know why!". But then if Paula Abdul is holding up a can of coke during American Idol, then that is negative advertising and I will avoid that product (unconsciously of course).
Well, I think that crosses the line to dishonest behavior. I mean, If I'm not willing to look at the ad that's my prerogative. But lets not claimed to have seen the ad and give the advertiser a false metric just to give the site revenue it doesn't deserve.
I agree. I think that the value that slashdot gets (along with wikipedia, and all other social sites) is from people who would not have otherwise contributed, do contribute (not financially but informatively/insightfully/funnily). Not sure what the solution is going to be, but I have a feeling that ad blockers and dvr fast forwarders are in the minority enough that it doesn't concern the marketers into a frenzy.
Yeah, that's what they said about pay cable. Talk about advertisement's gone wild! They have whole half hour shows that are advertisements. Trust me, they will have their cake and eat it with lip smacking goodness. So far the pay for sites I am subscribed to don't show ads. If they did I would probably want to cancel.
Oh yeah, that'll happen. Because EVERYBODY will be willing to pay for content. Guess what, when competition is giving it out for free, guess where everyone will go? Not the pay site. Sure they take a hit, but then they get popularity which is infinitely more valuable than a few hundred subscribers.
2) Everyone makes you register for access
That's what bugmenot.com is for. If I run into registration for content, I most likely don't bother. It can't be that important to waste my time to go through a registration process where I will input all fake credentials and a use an email address from mailinator or the like.
3) Everyone makes you pay a fee to read anything
I am free to avoid that right?
Talk about flamebait. You all subsidize MY internet experience? What's up melodrama? You get revenue from advertisement don't you? You're way too emotional about this. Sorry, that was a bit of flamebait in itself. Mod me as you will.
I agree that the article useless(the Adblock blurb was completely useless, they don't mention why it's bad, it's just bad because it is against their interest and revenue stream). I guess I'm not a typical DVR user. I deliberately let a show I want to watch live run for a good 20 minutes (if it's an hour) before I start watching it just for the purpose of skipping the ads. 24 is a good example. That show is so charged that a commercial break really ruins the mood. I mean Jack Bauer is laying dead in the street and then all of sudden I have to see a Tide commercial? By the time the break is over my emotional involvement in the episode has diminished.
oops...email addy is aack.thppt at gmail.com
"Keep firing, ASSHOLES!"

Not to pile on with the whiners but...WHERE'S THE ANDROID CLIENT?!!!
....sorry for shouting...

Yeah, I was being pretty obscure without any hints (so was the parent). Not surprised anyone picked it up or even bothered. But thanks for getting it!

are you serious? Reread that thread. The posters (both of them) are being funny. my god.
well no, I think that someone getting paid for clicks that didn't actually happen is dishonest, advertising being a dishonorable medium or not.

1) No free content available, anywhere
Oh yeah, that'll happen. Because EVERYBODY will be willing to pay for content. Guess what, when competition is giving it out for free, guess where everyone will go? Not the pay site. Sure they take a hit, but then they get popularity which is infinitely more valuable than a few hundred subscribers.
