I would remove Christina from that list, that chic can sing! At 5 years old that chic could sing better than 90% of the people on the charts today.
I'm not a fan of her music, but credit where credit is due!
This is a science fiction novel...

I recommend everyone pick up a copy of "Little Heros" By Norman Spinrad...it is to the music industry today what "The Shockwave Rider" by John Brunner is to Hacking. Highly, Highly recommended, esp in light of this story about the potential of artificial performers...
About 5 years I saw a job posting looking for someone with 7 years experience in JAVA programming...JAVA had only announced to the public in 1995...how could you have 7 years experience with a langauge that was only available for 3 years?!?!?!
In 1937 Joseph-Armand Bombardier took out his first patent on the snowmobile, which looked a bit like some science fiction car with treads and skis...later he build a smaller version, and that was the brith of the SkiDoo, and thus a phenomninom was born.
Actually, there are already drivers under ALSA for pro sound cards, like RME Hammerfall Sound cards. There is the linux equivelent of ASIO, and it's called JACK, which gives real-time sound IO for Linux. And there is already a number of free and commercial applications that will do multi-tracking under Linux.
Now all I have to do is get a sample editor under Linux for the Ensoniq EPS keyboard I have...
It consisted of two boards you plugged into an Apple ][+ or better, and had a piano keyboard, and you could use the Apple to modify the patches, and create sequences, and play music on the piano keyboard. A wonderful sounding instrument that was the closest I have ever gotten to a Fairlight.
"We are the Robots" indeed! These German pioneers of electronic music are still awesome to listen to, and I only wish there were videos of their performances.
When HARLIE was One, version one, is an excellent book that explores this subject in an enjoyable way. Avoid Vers. 2, it sucks. IMOHO. Davide Gerrold should not revise his books, as it's constantly a distaster. But HARLIE and the Man who Folded Himself are two classics of the field, again IMOHO.
Even more fun, some lamer came on this IRC channel at one point, and asked for some 0day warez, someone pointed him at the best cache at ftp://127.0.0.1...this should have been the end of it, but they "kid" (I am assuming) came back a little later and said it was a lame site since he already had all the warez there!
I was talking about my past experiences, not what can be done today. Of course OS-X makes it so simple, but as far as I am concerned, it has always been simple, as long as open source software has allowed the intergration of both environments...just plop a Linux Server into mix, and it becomes easy.
And I have had no problems, really. Once you get the TCP/IP stack on the Mac going, and Netatalk on the Linux server, they are just like another node on the network...they can access the internet, and print, and store files on the linux box.
And it's been around for a fairly long time...a guy in Canada named Sean McGuire wrote it, and a lot of people use it. It is client/server and it uses port 1984 tocommunicate.
Some people like to get to the meat of the article, I guess some prefer to get to the cheeze of the article, which is appropriate, considering the subject!

And many appologies to Joe Firmage, I hope you don't die laughing!
Go and make signs and pamphlets, protest and hand out the pamphlets outside the venue...then go in when it starts. Leave the signs outside if they have a problem with it...but have t-shirts with the same signs on under another shirt, and then take off the outter shirt when the "show" starts. But be quiet (but ask lots of questions!), be nice, but take every legit oportunity to disrupt their MEME!
If they are comming to our areas, let's take it to their front doors...find out what hotels they are at, and call them at 3 am to express your displeasure with what they are doing. Remember, do anything legal to disrupt their Mobile FUD Factory.
I've just been reading "What do you care what other people think" by Richard Feynman, and it covers some of his life during the Challenger investigation. And it was the same then as it is now...The field techs and engineers saying "This is really dangerous" and the Suits in management saying "But it worked before, why is it not safe now?!?!". It is a sad story about our Western Civilization that communication between the top and bottom of companies is so bad it is non-existant. If people in Management went and read the Toffler's Future Shock, and the books that come after it, they would understand why it is so important esp. in today's ultra-fast communication age that the heirarchy between the top and bottom of companies be flattened.
Of course, if it was just money, it might not be that important...but PEOPLE DIED because managment didn't listen...and every day PEOPLE DIE because management continues to be def to the information comming from below.

I've began using WordStar durning the Apple ][ days, running a Z-80 card on my beast. But I have tried and used many different editors before and after that...and after discovering WordStar, I keep on comming back to it.
It is just so easy to do editing with, as well as text creation. I now use JOE, as it is the closest that I can get...baring running a CP/M emulator and an old copy of Word Star...
And I am not the only person...professional writers like Arthur C. Clarke and David Gerrold are also big fans of WorldStar!
CNN has repeated several times a special about Police Crown Vics that catch fire after re-end accidents...there is a mod you can get free from your dealer to fix the problem...or at least reduce the chances of being toast if you get rear-ended. Crown Vics are nice, but I like my Mini-van, since I shlep around people and music gear all the time.
It was a good read, the expanded version, and it gives a bit more depth to the charactors as well.
