For example, we know she was using a fraudulent social security number.
This is a felony offense to. This happened to my brother because when he was born, my mother never had a SS number issued to him under my mothers maiden name (she was unmarried). Shortly after my brother was born she married my father and my older brother was given a SS under my mothers new married name (and not the name on his birth certificate). This was discovered while he was in prison (which, oddly enough was for evasion of law enforcement in which in he had escaped from county jail several times for DUI offenses). In prison, he had a new SS issued with his REAL birth certificate. The State demanded it.
So now, he has a totally new, clean record (since ALL government records are in fact tied to your SS, and a new credit history) and he applied for a drivers license using his new SS. The state then decided that because his previous license record used the wrong SS, that he had commited a felony (using false information on state or federal documents). The case was dismissed by a judge though saying that the state had enough time to figure out what was going on and that they did not have any justification waiting until AFTER he was out of prison before trying to send him back for something that the state made him do.
Totally un-related to the original story, but relavent to the fact that if she was using a false social security number, I have proof that it is in fact, a felony crime.
What is the difference between a cop shooting a kid with a toy gun by accident, a soldier shooting an unarmed civilian in Iraq because of language barrier, a man executed by the state who was actually innocent of murder, and a wife killing an abusive husband who also happened to be a pedophile?
And to follow up, of all the people who deserved to die... Would you think it was the abusive husband? Of course there is nothing with this current case that says the husband in question was abusive, but our society has a few paradoxes when answering the question who is allowed to kill and who is allowed to die without recourse.
This isnt a philosophical question, it is a stupid and biased one. In all of those examples you give no other information about the situation except for the one you wish to make your point on.
In most incidents where a child with a toy is shot, it is where there already has been real gun fire in action and the officers stopped taking chances with their own lives.
A soldier in Iraq killing another man? It's horrible that most of the U.S. is up in arms about how "innocient iraqies are being killed by US soldiers". WHAT DO YOU THINK THE IRAQIES are doing to the us soldiers? handing them cake and pie ? The soldiers in iraq do not know if the person in front of them that is wearing 42lbs of heavy woolen clothing has bombs strapped to him or is hiding an ak 47 under his robes or anything. Soldiers that have returned from Iraq have stories of childen being sent out to US soldiers strapped with bombs, why would you NOT shoot or immobilize anyone that gave you even the slightest discomfort and appeared to be a threat to your own life? We're at WAR here, thats what war is about.
The person wrongfully convicted. I would put money on that for every 1 person who is sitting in jail right now wrongfully accused of a crime they didnt commit, there are a million people that are sitting in jail because they broke the law and got caught. Fairly good track record i would say. Also, if a person is set to be executed, he wouldnt be executed for 1 murder but several murders in a hanus act such as destroying a bus full of people or machine gunning down a school room or killing a dozen people over a year or more period. These people that are executed for reasons like this are rarely innocent people wrongfully accused. The only reason you think it goes on every day is because the press media portrays it as such.
The abusive husband does not deserve to die. The people that think this way is one of americas problems. Imprisoned yes, sent to a mental institution yes, divorced and relocate yes, kill No, you're a f'ing retard and you deserve to sit in a little jail cell the rest of your life for thinking that you are above the Law.
I don't mean to imply that, it's up to the court system.
Most likely the defense will contend her murder sentence (and not the escape) if it was a shady trial like she claimed and opt for some deal with the state to serve a sentance for her escaping imprisonment. Another alternative defense is sadly the way to which she was found, which would be a HUGE tragedy to the US Court and Justice system.
The state will of course argue that the case 35 years ago that a jury found her guilty and the court sentenced her to life, which she wrongfully fled and she still must serve our her court appointed sentence, to which I would fully agree.
Do you have a drivers license, social security card, state issued ID, a working visa, a green card, temporary US issued document to reside in this country, a job where you receive a check written from a bank ?
OMG the State you live in and Federal Government ALREADY have a database with your information, along with everyone else, already in it. The only thing different here is that the US Government ran a different SQL Query on the database that already existed.
Why the OP was moderated at +3 or +4 informative, i have no clue because the above poster is retarded and knows nothing of the court system.
Having been on the other side of the bench several times myself, there is most certainly a penalty for avoiding or escaping your punishment as determined by the court of law.
In this case, the offender was found guilty of premeditated murder, the most serious crime in the country. She escaped her punishment and while she already served a life sentence, if she had been caught, her chance for parole would have been denied completly. So she escaped, became a felony fugitive and most likely on the FBIs most wanted list. 35 years later she is caught.
I don't see the problem here ?
Sure, she might be all nice and peachy now, but that doesnt make her any less of a convicted murderer. It doesnt make her any less of a fugitive.
Her only hope now is that the court system finds that since she has not commited a single crime in the past 35 years that they can consider her no longer a threat to society and instead serve a minimum punishment for escaping prison.
A couple months ago my paypal (and ebay) account got keylogged and was used too buy ~$800 worth of products. I called paypal when i found this and they stopped my account transactions, called my bank and informed them of what happened, my bank called me to verify and sign a stop payment too paypal form and fax back.
However it was too late, $800 hit my bank account (which happen to be the same time 2 credit card bills and my rent check all hit) and I ended up after overdraft fee's, something like, $1400 in the red.
They also used about $500 of additional funds from a credit card i have attached too that account.
I didnt have access too my bank acount for two weeks while the charges were sorted out, but long story short, paypal reclaimed every dollar that was spent. The bank and my credit card (WaMu.. go figure) reversed all of my overdraft charges and all has been well since..
Ebay on the other hand.. is a crooked motherf... I called them and told them that there was several auctions that were fraudently placed while i was away. Their "fraud" support staff said that the tools they use shown no evidence of my account being used without my authorization and no suspicious charges were places. So I managed too rack up 2 non-paying bidder strikes on my account because the sellers are dicks.
But then, everyone has their own Good / Bad / Ugly story. Hopefully i dont have a bad and/or ugly paypal story anytime soon.
Birth certificate is proof of being born in the U.S. (or what ever country the it was issued in).
It does in anyway prove who you are or if you are a U.S. citizen, since you can be born outside the U.S. then move here and claim citizenship, or vise-versa and move out of the U.S. and claim citizenship in another country.
Use a small night light with like a red filter / bulb and leave it on all the time. it'll be bright enough to see and won't disrupt the effect darkness has on your vision.
Why don't you get some sense, take a load off, join with women and piss while sitting down?
What would that do? it's not like men are stupid enough to sit on the john without looking to see that the seat is down..
I mean, really, do you walk backwards, ass first into the bathroom and try to find the toliet blindfolded or something?
Is it really that difficult to LOOK where you are going to sit, before sitting down?
I don't think you should be complaining to your man about "omg you left the seat up", but be looking in the mirror every day and say to yourself "I am not a retard, God gave me eyes and I am not blind"
btw, But it's hardly more difficult than pointing it upwards and arcing your stream in an attempt to keep your urethra open.
Funniest thing ever written, if your guy does this, kick him in the balls.
you said you read the article, you had to have read this then; "I don't feel like I can express my opinions," Bock says. "Only one side of the story was told in court. Nobody heard my side."
You can't say that the plaintiff in this case is in the right without knowing any of the reasoning behind what was said about her and her practice.
yes, the defendant could have gotten her sons back, but the plaintiff could have dragged this process out for a very long time and citing more and more fees due to "unexpected issues" or whatever.
I don't think that the real issue here is about free speech, what we should be worried about is the fact that the judge didnt STOP the jurys decision or the stayed the trial KNOWING that the defendant had no council or means to defend herself. This alone is a violation of the constitution where you (the defendant) are granted an explicit right to a fair trial with representation.
In most law situations, if the defendant shows up to court and the plaintiff is MIA, the defendant could have a mistrial and go free. If the defendant does show up for the case, the case is usually stayed and a warrent issue for appearence. The law says the defendant and/or council MUST be present for judgement.
I read that and i started thinking wtf are they going after hans for? Sure, she's been fuckin him over for a while, but there seems to be plenty enough evidence to prove what they [Sturgeon & the wife] were doing was extortion. She probably threatened Sturgeon too get more from him or she's tell the truth about things and it backfired on her.
Hans getting rid of his x-wife, it would be irrational for him to do since it would destroy his company and any other goals he may have had. Based on his history, he is waaaaaaaaaaaay to smart and knows what would happen if his wife dissapeared.
but i think you won the wtf award.. and the learn2type award... and the learn2formCompleteThoughts Award.. and the learn2makeApoint award...
I do find it funny that deaths of noted open source software authors have all been "treated" this way. The main question was "what about their project" as opposed too "what about the family". I mean, did you just now realize that this is a COMPUTER-TECH RELATED NOT-A-REAL-NEWS site ?
Anyways, I for one do not care less about the guy, his wife, their kids, or whatever happened last month or one, two or six months from now.
Not to mention, it's the cost of an illegal copy of WinXP. OEM copies purchased separately from a PC are illegal.
No, it is not. Even the microsoft website suggests that you can purchase OEM copy of Windows XP pro 32/64bit from various vendors if you purchase qualifying hardware such as harddrives, CPUs Ram, Video cards, motherboards, basicly anything that would trigger windows activation if it is changed.
Tip: If you purchase a computer with a 64 bit processor (not an Itanium), you can obtain an OEM System Builder Copy of XP Pro x64 from vendors such as New Egg, with a qualifying hardware purchase. This hardware must be a non peripheral item that becomes an integral part of the system in question. Ordering additional/replacement RAM for your system and installing it fulfills the requirement. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/64bit/bow man_05nov07.mspx
Why is OEM so cheap?
OEM versions of Windows XP:
-- cannot upgrade over an existing Windows installation. -- must be installed "clean" on a freshly reformatted drive or partition. -- cannot be transferred to a different computer or if motherboard is upgraded. -- the license cannot be sold or transferred to another user. -- are not eligible for free Microsoft technical support.
-- any problems whatsoever with the installation CD or Product Key.
is not eligible for Microsoft support....you have to deal with the "seller". -- cost less than "retail versions" due to the above limitations/risks
If the end user is installing Windows XP on machines that wont be upgraded/altered for quite some time, OEM is a cheaper solution especially if you have an IQ of 50 or higher. Really, how often do you need to call Microsoft for ANY type of support? in 10 years or so of using Windows 95 through Windows XP, i have never EVER had a reason to call MS for anything.
For a business the best solution would be something like dell, since the guy is all worried about support.
I purchased a retail copy of Pro for 239 and Home for 139.
Incorrect, ISO certification requires that you document and create guidelines for every aspect of production from the recieving, checking and documentation of raw materials to tracking inventory of the product to the finished product.
the point of ISO certification is that if there is a flaw in the product, the cause of the flaw can be pinpointed EXACTLY without any large degree of research. If bolt X on party Y is not at spec Z, then machine Q is responsible.
Having a 3rd party application such as Googles Desktop randomly uploading any kind of data regarding customer information (nothing specific even, it could be a simple xml sheet of the flow of a resource through the manufacturing process) would most definitly break ISO certification be cause you don't know.
Fun fact - ISO certification also requires that you do not use SAE measurements. In the printing industry where i am from, this is lame.

after reading a good 90% of the posts in this topic, it is apparent that 90% or more of/. has simply NO CLUE what happens in the desktop publishing world and how this will affect the printing industry
A couple people got it right though, the printing industry (not your pos laserjet or kinko's or even you companys fancy $5000 xerox color laser printer) will not give up the billions of dollars invested in creating the "perfect" PDF workflow. While the Formats used (PDF, Postscript, JDF, CiP3|4 and PPF) are all Free to use, the software used to create them isnt.
Not only that, to make the a printed product, you need to make lithographic plates, either from film or directly from PDF (CTP). the imagesetters are run by software from Creo (Prinergy or Brisque) or Rampage rips. HUGE money has gone into the purchasing of this equipment (one imagesetter and a single Prinergy server can set you back well over 100k a YEAR + support fee).
If microsoft wants into this HUGE industry, they need to offer more than just a new file format.
Adobe offers the most complete page creation suit that there is. While many many people use Quark to actually make the page layout placement, everyone used Illustrator to make the postscript files (export page from Quark, import into Illustrator, print to EPS in illustrator, becuase postscript in quark 4 and 5 is broken).
This is a waste of time because it'll get lost in teh sea of slashdot stories...
I have to ask, what file format are you using to create the file that takes 15 minutes to render a single page?
I would assume you would be using standard postscript or PDF, but nothing we do at work (i work in prepress) takes more than 15 minutes to render (even an 8 page imposition) except for DSC 2.0 files. They can take 15 minutes for a 8x10.5 to an hour or more to render even a single 19x30 poster.

felony murder has no statute of limitations. Escaping prison and not serving your time as oppointed by the courts has no statute of limitations.
It would also change where the offender is imprisoned and the type of activities they can participate in while in prison.
