I wonder the same thing, why it takes 15 minutes to render (i would imagine its a 10.75x15" ad). The only thing i can think of is that they are using DSC2 files instead of postscript or pure PDF.

At work on our Prinergy servers (quad xeon 1.4ghz with 8gig-o-ram), a 8x10.5 DSC2 page takes a good 10 minutes to render. PDF's render in a few seconds

What most people are pissed about is that guild names are UNIQUE ACROSS ALL realms. For instance, I play on Hellscream. My guilds name is Grasshoppers of Death. No other player on any realm can have the guild name Grasshoppers of Death.

Across all 88 realms, there is only 1 Legions of Doom (made up name, probably a real guild).

That's a cool name, im sure the guild master from beta wanted that name and joined the first realm avialable. The problem is that there are hundreds of names that people wanted to reserve.
My name is Azrael, each realm can have their own Azrael, but no other realm can have Grasshoppers of Death.

Combine that with the inability to transfer characters across realms? Thats what people are upset about.

Of course, we've also known about all of this some time before the launch.

Right or wrong, you make decisions that affect and direct the entire team. The best way to do that is through accountability.

If you make a wrong decision, its YOUR fault. Its not the teams fault or its not a specific team members fault.

if as a whole, the team makes a wrong decision, its not THEIR mistake, but OUR mistake.

If the team as a whole does a great job, its OUR project, not MY project.

The CMYK colorspace is useless to anyone but print professionals. Adding true CMYK support to gimp will just give the slash-crowd another thing to use in their meaningless arguments on why OSS is better than all.... well, until they actually get into the real world and see why applications like GIMP fail to win professional users.

To fully enable GIMP to succeed in the professional print envoriment, they'll need to forgo all this "freedom" OSS b.s. they use because NO ad designer or Desktop publisher will use an application that does not support PMS colors.

PMS stands for Pantone matching system and yes, is copyrighted and trademarked and you need to license it to use it.

i'm 60% positive that CMYK is also copyrighted by Pantone, but im not 100% sure.

Either way, CMYK support wont come to GIMP until they realize that to win that market they need to accept that they might have to license technologies.

Adobe IS the industry standard because it WROTE those standards. PDF, Postscript, EPS, and more

$600 for Photoshop is very very reasonable for professionals. Considering that the people who use it most work for ad-houses that get payed thousands of dollars for a single ad anyways.

Photoshop will always be above Gimp because of the PMS and CMYK colors.

Photoshop is designed for professionals. GIMP is not. end of story.

What are you talking about? we use OSX Panther and it does that and i hate it.

We use 2 applications and always have a finder window open.

If i have safari open but have another application window above it, and i need to check on a download, i click on the download window (thats in the background) and it pulls every safari window to the front, above all of my other applications.

If i go to click on something and i miss and click the desktop, it brings all of my finder windows forward.

THE WORST is when i double click on a file in finder to open it in the application. Save and close that window, the finder window is in the background. BUT if i click in the finder window to select the next file i need to edit, it pulls a different application (Prinergy) IN FRONT OF FINDER and then usually will move some important directories around.

NO WHERE in the article does it state (in either yahoo or the register) that it will be Microsoft v.s. World. If you use half of your brain to remember that Microsoft indemified all of its customers from being sued (plenty of links in the comment area already) you would understand what Steve B is talking about.

Steve B runs Microsoft, Microsofts biggest competitor is Linux. Microsoft is telling Governments "Hey, we'll protect you if someone tries to sue you for patent violations. If you use linux, who will protect you from then ?"

Balmer is not saying "If you use linux I WILL sue you for violating patents". He is not saying "Use microsoft or you will be sued". He is saying that "I [steve b] will gurantee that you wont be sued if you use MS products, but if you use linux, you could be sued"

Even the register says "He did not specify that Microsoft would be the company doing the suing", which right after that it puts its own anti-MS propoganda.
