An encrypted VPN might not help you in this case. Most hotel WiFi setups require you to go through a landing page first (captive portal), before internet access is released. This would still expose you to the same vulnerabilities.
I seem to be the only one who's mentioned System Shock 2 so far:) It's one of those rare games that find their way back onto my machine every once in a while. With the most recent patches and texture enhancements it looks a lot better, and you get excellent multiplayer support as well!
Who could forget such classic Hybrids comments as:
"Your song is not ourrrss!" "Hrrrrrrr... KILL ME!" "Run, RUN!"
Sounds great, but what if I wanted to drive to Sweden for my vacation? I would have no place to fill up my car once I got there. They're not going to close or convert normal gas stations, just add a new type of fuel.
... motorcycle riders? This could be a great addition as protective armor in jackets etc.! Most of the injuries either occur falling on our backs (damage to the spinal cord), or falling and sliding into an object which concentrates the impact damage on a small area (guard rail etc.).

I must say I'm extremely impressed with the graphics so far. However, these are movie files and it remains to be seen how playable the actual game will be on my P4 3.2 with GF4 Ti4600. I haven't heard any comments from Valve on the minimum system requirements other than the usual game-developer cliché "the game will require a medium-end PC...", and they haven't said if they meant a moderate PC at the time of the statement or at the time of the game's release:-)
Oh, and to answer the question I missed: I'd recommend against either an X-Box or PS2 and try some PC games first. I'm assuming you have a PC and it would be a good idea to see what's on the market first. This, of course, only if you have a decent PC to play games on...
- action game where I can play a spy or a soldier?
I'd recommend either No One Lives Forever 2 (to be had for a bargain now). It's completely cheesy 60s style, with dialogues, equipment and attitude to match. Plus Cate is sexy;-)
- driving game where I can race around in cool cars?
Try a recent Need for Speed or just Formula 1 2002, both from Electronic Arts. Both are great games in the visual, audio and gameplay department. For F1 2002 I'd strongly suggest getting a steering wheel, however.
- D&D style game so I can re-live my pubescent RPG days?
If you're happy with text-mode visuals, try the eternal classics Nethack and/or Moria (UMoria 5.5.2) ? There is simply an enormous amount of RPGs / D&D games available. If you want action, try games like Baldur's Gate or the Diablo series. If you're more into depth of gameplay, try Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, etc.
No One Lives Forever 2 sold here in the Netherlands for just 35, which was a pretty darned good price compared to the other new releases (UT2003, for instance) at the time priced at 50 or more. I'm very pleased that Monolith is able to sell top-quality games for 'student-friendly' prices and even better that they continue their support by providing frequent patches and releasing powerful utilities like this toolkit.
With any luck, this toolkit will help spawn a range of mods for the game. Personally I can't wait for a NOLF2 Counter-Strike / Tactical Ops clone:-)
I've been playing Day of Defeat for quite a while already. Development was stuck at v3.1 beta for a long time and apart from some small map bugs and a 'nade bug', it was a very good and stable mod. Most of the maps are 'Domination'-style where you have to 'turn' all flags to win the map/round, there are some maps where you have to blow up a couple of 88s. All in all, a well-rounded mod.

1) You make a bunch of claims without providing any substantial evidence to support them. On the contrary, there is well-known proof against your arguments. Why don't you actually provide some evidence, for instance on how FFXP has technology stolen from OpenSSL? Are you actually aware of what you're saying?
2) It is illegal to perform any of the so-called 'things FlashFXP does' you provide in your last paragraph. Perhaps you should take a few classes in law school and understand what 'evidence' collected in such a manner would hold up to in ANY court?
3) You're actually blaming the author because *YOU* decided to run an unstable product, a RELEASE CANDIDATE? In other words, you're blaming Charles DeWeese for your own stupidity?
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Please don't be an anonymous coward. We already know who you are from the 'personal information' that your FlashFXP installation transmitted.

There is a difference between Open Source and Open License.
I propose we call this technique 'wardriving' ...
Oh, wait.
I for one welcome our new musical overlords!

Because for the 'real' groups that are out there, it's not so much release itself that counts, but beating the rival groups to the punch.
Well, over time you could become deaf or insensitive to sounds they make ...
