    I could not agree more. Love Gmail and can find messages easily. Can categorize an email in several labels. I daily am forced to use Outlook and can never find anything. There was a third party Outlook extension that made searching better, but Microsoft bought them and made it unavailable. Thanks Microsoft!

    I picked the raid card. A software solution for NAS did not make any sense to me as hardware solves this so much more reliably and runs much faster. Even if the raid card fails, I can just buy another card and the disks come back up. And comparatively it was cheap. For 2.2T RAID5, I took an old underpowered box, put Debian on it, and have rebooted it once in a year.

    Interesting it is not a free market when someone with a lot of political lobbying is having problems. They should loose their shirts if they have a bad business plan. They should get sued for consumer fraud if they sell a product (bandwidth) they don't have.

    I guess I understand what you are saying, but I have also had the case where the code was just a mess. That it would be better to start over than to try and figure out what the guy did to try and fix the problems.

    You also have to consider productivity. The smoker might not get anything done compared to a fit WWII vet. Same if he were obese. And to say that fighting cancer is not expensive and puts a strain on government and medical resources is just ignoring the facts. It took my grandfather 10 years to die from smoking that he had quit several years before he got sick.

    FBI/CIA/DEA/NSA/IRS/TSA/DHS agents are hired to protect the public, they are not making money off of someone else's misery. But hey, I don't enjoy Jerry Springer either, or those other shows that Chris Hansen does about court cases where good old Chris describes in graphic detail how some poor woman was raped over and over again for your viewing pleasure.

    The only thing that customers of Virgin Media can do is to switch to another carrier and bad mouth their service to others (and encourage others to switch). They still want to make money and bad press changes behavior.

    The HQ can be anywhere, but if the team was in one place and then is distributed (ie outsource pieces of the project), then the project will suffer.

    When they work in a foreign country and their family hates it and they are tired of weird squishy food and odd customs they will wish they had not gone.

    The difference for a company is that work will suffer as there are all kinds of new barriers to putting out good work including culture, time zones, and language. It can be done, but generally it is not.

    A client side language is where the browser executes code that the web server sends it. The software parser resides on the client. These are languages like javascript, flash, client side java. My complaint is not with the API, it is that you cannot know and test every ones computer that might use your website. If you have never been to a website with a broken applet (works half-assed), etc consider yourself lucky.

    Client side languages always blow. You cannot possibly cover every type of OS and browser so you are always going to have a half-assed solution.

    No it is not. The 2nd Amendment is to prevent what happened to the founding fathers in England from happing in the new country they were forming. Although it is less of a deterrent for the government from behaving badly than 200 years ago, I still think it has it's place and is still a good idea.

    Merck did a bit over a year of testing before it got approval for the vaccine. They only tested the current bank of shots on about 400 girls. No telling what would happen to all of these women in 10 years. HPV does not = cervical cancer and the cancer can be found and treated early with regular testing. One of the Merck's three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Rick Perry's former chief of staff. It was a money grab for Merck so I would say in the grand scheme of things yes it has NO community gain. Millions of dollars for this when there are much much bigger problems that need to be addressed.
