Looked at Sony MiniDisc, iPod etc etc. In the end I went for an iRiver Imp400 mp3 cd player. Larger than hard drive players but just as cool and cheaper.
They're turning it into a games console - XBox/PC. "Disigned for Longhorn" PCs will prob nees a 1Gb of RAM. I'd like to see PCs load quicker. Somehow get the OS into flash memory and have it load a standard setup within seconds. Standard game pad prob means same as XBox game pad, "cross platform"
I write this post on an Inspiron 8200. After getting increasingly fed up of hauling around my huge Athlon box and 17" monitor, and being stuck inside on a sunny day (a luxurious that doesn't last long here in the UK) I got my first laptop.
I got the 8200 as a desktop replacement and so for the graphics card (Geforce 4). Although I'm not a huge gamer, as long as I could continue to play Tony Hawks 3 I'd be happy. And I hoped it would last me longer than some of the cheaper laptops.
This 8200 has the Geforce 4 440 Go with 64mb, 1.6 p4 and the 1600x1200 res screen (UXGA something). The screen is amazingly sharp; Quake 3 @ 1600x1200 with all the graphics options on max is stunning! However, lesser resolutions blur very slightly so one finds trying to run all games at 1600x1200 results in slowdown on games some new games. This high res also has strange effects on some old games where low res bitmap textures look awful (eg TOCA2).
If you can afford a laptop with a decent graphics card, get one! Plus you can take it anywhere, link it to your mobile phone and read Slashdot (like I'm doing now!) I have definitely been converted to laptops.
I know you Americas like it big (big cars, big houses, big Apple) but us Euros like things a little smaller.
So, anyone tried to mod their Xbox into a smaller case? Presumably as the hardware is similar to a PC it shouldn't be that difficult.
I too have just built an AMD 1600+ on a K7S5A, together with a 64mb Geforce 2, it kicks ass! Especially on the savings compared to a P4.
The AMD rating seems fair, I think of my system as a 1.6 GHz instead of its actual 1.4GHz.
Yep, exactly what I did about 6 months back.

Winux seems an obvious name, even sounds like "Windows sucks" if you say it fast.
1. How are us trainspotters supposed to get numbers of trains that travel that fast?
2. I would imagine there are health issues if you stick your head out of a window.
Also,
Are the tracks effected by fallen leaves?
Can we ride Back To The Future style skateboards down the track?
What? Don't all DirectX games run at 1600x1200? What about widescreen/surround gaming support?

I'm sure GTA was available from Freeloader some time ago. GTA London as well.
When I got the email from Rockstar last week about downloading GTA for free I deleted it thinking it was bogus spam. When I ordered my Inspiron 8200 laptop 4 months back, it arrived with 2 floppy drives! (Instead of a CDRW)

Yes! Although it didn't follow the Pacman rules.
>no longer be able to have their AOL instant messenger open But they'll be forced to use Windows Messenger instead.
