I did that when they switched to unity and yet, after several month of debian, I will come back to Ubuntu. Why? Integration is better. It took me a day to make multiscreen work, discover that ATI driver does not work with debian's version of X.org, suspend does not work and I have overheating issues. So their choice of packages sometimes suck a bit, especially if you happen to be on the development side of things, their UI really sucks and I hate being imposed a way to work, but luckily one can install gnome classic, enlightnement or KDE.

Are users the product? This is a stupid question. Here is another : How does Canonical get money from you? I don't pay them anything so the fact that they could be profitable by serving me is a miracle. If they manage to find a way to make money without forcing me to pay, without forcing me to use proprietary software and without selling my personal data, I m all for it. If it means I'll need to uninstall a few packages before using my system correctly, I'll do it.

  17. I have seen a complete review of exactly this on School Regrets Swapping Laptops For iPads · · Score: 1

I went to a presentation of experimental education techniques (it was in France) where several classes used either laptops or tablets (both iPads and android), lend to students, and tested adapted applications with that.

Their conclusions were not that clear. They mentioned the troubles of using a totally closed system like Apple's but also mentioned something I did not realize : tablets tend to be more robust than PCs. Classes had a lot more hardware problems with laptops than with tablets.

Tablets are great for sharing and exploring, not so much for writing and they identified copy-pasting operations as being the less practical operation. Also, a lack of educational applications for tablets (compared to laptops) was also a concern.

However, laptops are great for solitary work, but tablets are great for group work, as it is as easy to pass one around as it is to pass a sheet of paper.

I hope they will try transformer tablets soon. These have the best of both worlds.

"There will be a Chinese in space soon" was the promise. I walked in Chinatown at that time, and saw the children's drawings. Space, space, rockets.

A space program is not much about science, but a lot about education and the dreams that fuel it.

India can use more education. Not everyone will end up in space, science has a lot of other interesting fields, but space acts like a magnet to children so that they can get an interest to these fields.

There is a very good reason to buy organic food : sustainability. It causes less pollution and uses less synthetic additives (which are often derived from fossil resources).

The "good for your health" is more of a marketing tool for people too concerned about themselves than about the planet. It has always disturbed me that people call organic food healthier : in the past decades, food quality has gone up. Intoxications are rare, parasites are fought, rotten food is less hidden in processed food. Organic food partly comes back on the techniques that allowed this. When done correctly, it is an efficient fight against wastes, but I always fear that it could be done wrong and cause intoxication, especially given the number of people who combine organic food growing and some kind of alternative spirituality (not the majority, but these people do exist) that may make them believe that "natural" ways can not create a dangerous fruit or vegetable.

When I buy organic food, I do it to preserve the planet, and I consider this a slight health risk. This would be a hard sell for most people.
