    Google local search of "what bar are my friends hanging out at tonight?" drop down some phone numbers, get a google map to where they are.

    Or, change that to "what bar is my soon-to-be exwife hanging out in tonight?"

    If it can be used by your friends, it can be used by people who don't like you. There's always a flip side.

    Now? Driving simulators have been around for years. Granted, the tech is getting better and better, but this is not a new idea.

    Verify and assist in teaching, but just as with flight simulators, there is no real substitute for performing the actual task.

    Right. But changing behavior isn't necessarily 'bad'. Isn't necessarily good, either.

    But how are we to study these environments (and hopefully learn how not to screw them up anymore than we already have) without some human interaction? We are on this planet. Interaction is going to happen. Maybe these little sensors are less intrusive than other ways of monitoring.

    Silly comparison. If they 'downgrade' from the Maxima to a $11k Kia, and bypass the $20k Prius, they can save far more.

    The only way you can really compare is similar cars. Civic vs Civic Hybrid, for instance. Explorer Hybrid vs Explorer.

    I did this calc a couple of years ago, and, depending on which cars you use, came up with 200,000-400,000 miles to even out the extra cost of the hybrid. That's pretty much never. And yes, I included the tax advantage.

    With the increased price of gas, it will be lower, but still not great.

    Does it happen? Sure. Once in a great while, with some weird combination of hardware/software.

    Having it happen daily? That's a whole different thing. You'd think that the user would try to track it down and fix it, rather than having it bluescreen 'almost daily'.

    Well, yeah. Evidently, some people lack the knowledge/skill to set up an XP box correctly.

    First, when a widget starts to download, Tiger prompts me and says "This download contains an application, do you want to continue?" That should be the first dead-giveaweay.

    Social engineering around that would be easy. "Mac's are immune to viruses, right? At least that's what everyone tells me."

    (of course there's nothing stopping you from usign the same name and icon as ...say Calculator).

    FF can be set to d/l automatically. "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." If you've clicked that box in the past, zip files will be automagically downloaded. This will work for any filetype. Automatically play a .wav/mp3 file, or open a .doc, or d/l whatever.

    Dumb to do, but it can be set like that.
