    For a very loose definition of 'bases'. Many, many countries have 25 people deployed.

    TV shows or movies != instructional video. Completely different use case.

    Sure I could watch a 30 min TV show on the train going to work (if I had an iTouch/iPhone/Android and if I rode the train).
    But if it were an instructional vid of how to change the oil in the car, I'd like to be able to bypass the 'gather tools' and 'jack up the car' segments, and jump directly to 'turn the filter this way'.

    As others have suggested, handbrake + h.264

    But my thought is, 10-20 minute instructional videos? Especially on a mobile device?
    Break it up into 2-4 minute segments. No one is going to watch a 20 minute video, and retain what was in minute 0-6. zzzzzzzzzz

    I inherited a similar one a few years ago. Mid 70's one owner Yamaha DK-40, pristine condition. ~$3500 orig price. I couldn't give it away. Name your price, free delivery anywhere in Ohio. No takers. I talked to the main piano/organ dealer in the city I was living in. "If you can get $300 for it, you're lucky. I have a basement full of those."

    Throwaway culture or no, some things just aren't worth it.

    A nerd paraadise

    Nodes connect to each other in a P2P network.
    The nodes perform hashing problems, attempting to find a number that hashes to a value with a certain number of 0's at the start (binary zero's, aka, the number has to be below a certain value)
    The network assigns bitcoins to those nodes who have found solutions to the hashes.
    After a certain amount of time the difficulty of finding the hashes increases(an extra 0 is added to the hash solution required)
    This increase in difficulty continues until eventually there will be 21million bitcoins and no more can exist.


    Whoever has the biggest, fastest computer, wins.

    10 yrs ago. While not technically 'piracy', he discontinued further chapters of the eBook because people weren't paying anything.

    The concept was, 'download the next chapter, pay what you want'. Well, apparently for most people, pay what you want = $0. Would be the same today.

    A lot of people in here have stated they'd toss the artist a few $$ if downloading a torrent. How many actually have, and this is a tiny segment of the entertainment consuming population.

    But all of that is mitigated by the fact that you can charge at home.

    If you live in a house with a garage. If you live in an apartment, charging at home becomes more problematic. Not insurmountable, just a harder problem to solve.

    Vacation pics might easily be mistaken for porn. Vacation in Spain/France/Italy...pic of your family...random topless girl in the background. Poof, porn (in some peoples opinion).

    A .xxx that is supposed to be able to allow people/parents/governments to filter out boobies fails, because it won't catch quite a lot of what is visually no different from explicit porn...e.g a naked boobie or even just a skimpy bikini.

    This will not work. at least, not the way they think it will.

    What is the reason for a .xxx domain. Ostensibly, to allow people to filter out 'porn'. Simply block the domain. A lofty goal, but it can't work this way.

    1. Would a site be 'required' to register in that domain? Well, redtube.com wouldn't go away, they simply add redtube.xxx
    2. One mans porn is another mans vacation pics.
    3. Who would be the internet police? Fred Phelps? a Sharia imam? Owner of a Barcelona gay bar? Who decides?
    4. Is this required? If I have some beach pics that include a girl in a tiny bikini, does that count? In that case, every photo sharing website counts.
    5. There is always Rule 34.

    Dryers actually do eat socks. Some years ago, mine died. Thinking "hey, there might be some salvageable parts" (motor, timer), I took it apart. Inside the case, outside the drum, there was a literal double handful of single socks, and about $4 in change and bills.

    That's called experience. Washer A takes 47 minutes. Started it 33 minutes ago, ergo it will be done in 14. Don't need a network to count for me.

    I made a game of it...see how long I could keep them on the line. Ficticious name, correct street/fake number, fake car. Go through 3 levels of sales people..."And who should I write down for my records for the electronic check?" they give methe company name (supposedly).
    "Of course, you know that you will never ever get any money from me, and the only reason I'm still talking to you is because I'm bored, and so you don't bother someone else at dinnertime."

    35 minutes was my record.

    The Air Force has at least a couple of incidents of no comms from a Predator/Reaper back to home base. The a/c is supposed to circle and reestablish, or eventually fly back towards home base. One in Afghanistan apparently went off by itself and wouldn't respond. They had to send a manned F-16 to shoot it down.

    You can run everything using Windows Virtual PC

    Except (and I'm not sure about ('XP Mode')) Virtual PC cannot access the host USB ports. I ran into this last week on vacation.

    Older digital camera (Olympus C3000), program to control the cam from the PC. OK....cam software won't install in Vista/Server2008. So..crank up Virtual PC and an xp vhd. The vhd cannot see the hosts usb ports to actually run the camera.
    No joy.

    Here in the US you can't do that in most jurisdictions, because the local government signs exclusive franchise agreements granting monopoly status to just one or two players.

    The other side of that is: Do you want a new line strung across your front yard everytime Joe Blow next door wants a new ISP? Currently, the US has 1, 2, or 3 comm pipes to their house. POTS/DSL, cable coax, and/or FIOS. All run by the evil corporations.

    So, to promote more competition, you either have to allow more physical pipes (not popular on a personal level), or force the existing pipe owners to lease out their not insignificant investment in the existing pipes (not popular on a corporate level). You choose.

    You ARE hoping for reelection, right?

    But, if you take the EU in toto as a similar size to the US, they are virtually tied. 10.02 v 10.16. Some places great, some not so much.
    Could it be better? Hells yeah. But this is not the 3rd world backwater that many in here like to proclaim.

    hmmm..I thought we passed peak oil? Yes, this leak/accident is absolutely horrendous and should be prevented from happening in future at all costs.
