Bricks and mortar Bank of America is not going to fuck over customers
Now THAT is funny. Bank of America hit Gloria Carlo, 51, a single mom from the South Bronx, with a lawsuit demanding $23,312.04. It's money the bank claims she overdrew in a two-month home-shopping spending spree after already exhausting $38,000 from her own savings.
Bank of America Corp. and Wachovia Corp. are among the big banks notifying more than 670,000 customers that account information was stolen in what may the biggest security breach to hit the banking industry.
when will the US finally step up and take something other than short-term, economic driven decisions concerning the environment?
When will Europe finally step up and admit they have failed badly WRT the Kyoto Protocol? (some countries have done great. But nowhere all or enough)
When will the world step up and bring China and India into the emission reduction mindset?
When will the rest of the world finally admit that the US is making significant efforts in emissions reductions, just not within the exact same rules as you'd like? (Individual states, and even Bush's latest proposal)
When will the rest of the world realize that 'carbon credit trading' is nothing more than money transfer/extortion, not anything to do with actual carbon emission reduction. As evidenced by none other than Al Gore.
Does the US need to do more to reduce its (carbon) emissions? Hell yes. But so does everyone else.
Make it simple. Everyone...reduce your individual countries emissions by x% in y years. No breaks, no 'trading', no excuses. X%.
Any treaty that affects all the planet, yet exempts almost 1/2 the planet, is badly flawed from the start.
There goes the last shred of any goodness Dell had left.
1. They will have to compete (on price) with the Walmart eMachines
2. Corporate sales will suffer. "We use the same equipment you can get at Walmart!"
3. The clueless will badmouth Dell & walmart for selling them a broken PC. We all know it was THEM that couldn't use it, but that's what the perception will be.
Maybe they can make it work. I don't see it as an up for them, though.
actually give some of the wealth all that destruction generates back to the people.
That's the problem. You can't just give it to 'the people'. Exxon isn't going to hand out $50 bills on the street corner. You give it to the local government, who then distributes it among the populace. Yeah, right. They keep all that, for their yachts.
Same as with inequitable food distribution. There is enough food...just no way to get it past the local government thief.
A camera remembers clearly. A camera can't be bribed, tricked, or forced to say something other than what it saw.
True, but what is presented afterwards can be manipulated. A couple of years ago in Cincinnati, there was a case of a black man who died during/after arrest by the police. The TV news played the video again and again...2 cops whaling away on an unarmed individual. Large public outcry "He didn't do nuttin!", "How could they just beat him to death?" Riots almost broke out over this.
What wasn't shown until a couple days later was the preceeding couple of minutes of tape, in which the 400lb individual initiated the attack the cops. They were backing up, trying to spray him with pepper spray. He would not stop. Finally, they got him down (still fighting back) and got the cuffs on him.
He died not of being beaten to death, but rather being 400lbs, high on crack and PCP.
If that couple of minutes of the tape had 'gone missing' and never shown, it would have been assumed that the cops were in the wrong(frequently they are, but not in this case), and simply beat him to death.
People give too much credit to electronics, forgetting that people control the electronics.
Dar-es-salaam and Nairobi were attacks on the US Embassies in those cities. By definition, US soil. London and Madrid are western cities. Close enough for fanatical Muslims. Bali was a western tourist spot. Again, close enough.
No amount of funding is too much for the issue of finding black holes. I still have 17 socks and a car key unaccounted for.
They are in your dryer. Really. A couple of years ago, getting ready to toss out a busted dryer, I took it apart to salvage the motor. Inside the box, but outside the drum, was a double handful of single socks, and about $4 in change and bills.
Hacked debit card = hacked license
Given that they don't change the data on the license, just read it and use it as a key, this isn't an issue. If someone wants to clone your card, they can do it onto any card with a mag strip today. I guess I should have said 'hacked debit card database'. Not the actual card.
What is the benefit for me? Nada.
Well, if you RTFM (I know, I know), the benefit for you is pretty simple. Benefit of only having to carry one card? Well...seeing as another card takes up very, very little space in my wallet, that's not a benefit. The only time my license gets pulled out of its slot is the rare ID check. The debit card gets used much more often.
10 off per gallon I don't know where you got that. I didn't write it.
Shall we enumerate some of the problems?
Suspended/surrendered license = no money
Hacked debit card = hacked license
numerous swipes = worn card + license. I'd rather not deal with the DMV any more than absolutely required.
What is the benefit for me? Nada.
Some of the best (and most reliable) programmers I've met use drugs.
Some of the worst and most unproductive/abusive/unreliable 'programmers' I've worked with use illegal drugs.
It depends on the person. Some are good, some are bad. But illegal drug use is/can be an indicator. 'What other laws and company rules will you casually break?' Especially important in the financial field.
I don't understand why these companies don't choose to treat these people as adults who know exactly what effect drugs give them...

Users of the Bank of America's Visa Buxx prepaid debit cards are being warned that they may have had sensitive information compromised following the theft of an unencrypted laptop computer.
The problem is that you cannot make real money preventing global warming.
The High Priest of Global Warming begs to differ. He even pays himself.
Many countries have a really weak economy, telling them they can't even build any new factories...
No..."If you're going to build new factories, build good ones". The tech is out there. Use it.
I hope that isn't even vaguely prod quality. Yes, I realize it is CG, but damn...even originally CG characters (Greivious, etc) looked bad.

I think I just threw up a little.

The correct spelling is Ahmedinutjob.

I don't know if COPS is a good general indication of American policing
It isn't. No more than East Enders is a portrayal of typical life in the whole of England.

Looks like govliquidations.com belongs to a domain squatter...?
oops...take off the 's'.
govliquidation.com
And of course, Islamic terrorism has always been a joke given that we've had only two attacks in the past two decades
Right. London, Madrid, WTC1, USS Cole, Dar-es-salaam, Nairobi, Bali, just for the more visible ones.
Another govt one is govliquidations.com. They took over the military's DRMO functionality. I've bought a couple lots of flat panel monitors.
What the hell? Doesn't she have anything better to do?
She was multitasking. At least half of those were as she was driving to and from school.

His approval rating is down to the hardcore loyalists that would eat glass before they spoke ill of any Republican from Texas.
And even more telling, the approval rating for Congress is even lower. The new, Democrat controlled Congress.
The entire government sucks.
No, not joking, actually. Sony VAIO laptop.
How about no.

Because some of them don't act like adults.
I remember when I was 9 or 10 and the family computer could hold 10 gigs. That was nearly unfillable at the time.
You insensitive clod! I'm using one of those right now!
