Once I tried to get him to stop. After receiving a few 1337 insults, I responded with a post along the lines of "You are obviously a child, fat, with very few friends who gets beaten up a lot." etc. He disconnected, and was much easier to get rid of after that. I felt kind of sorry for the little shit.

Sometimes you see behaviour in online gaming that's so frickin' pointless and dumb, the perps must grow up to be psychopaths. I look forward to a sucsessful system that keeps me from having to see that crap.

At the moment the only game I'm playing is Enemy Territory. The server I play on auto mutes for saying "damn", and usually has a couple of admins with kick privileges playing. This has broader effects than removing TKers and cheaters. It also raises the level of team-play and friendly chat, and I see a lot of dads playing the kids. That makes it more fun for me.

Windows is a very difficult system to fully grasp. The "view from 3000 feet" is cloudy. Windows stopped being a POS a while ago, but statements like this fr om MS people, and the dropped (and limited) feature list for "Vista" lead me to think MS has a problem. Anyone who has every worked on a failed software project can see the signs.

It wouldn't suprise me at this point if they had a few black projects hidden away in Redmond trying to rewrite the whole thing.

Most systems run dhcp as a service, because an ISP only gives them with a time limited lease. My ISP (Telus, whom I hate due to a recent /. story and crap service) only gives them for and hour and cancels it. That's assuming the dhcp servers are up, of course.

The Allies focused on ball bearing production as a weak point, dropped a gazillion bombs on ball bearing plants, and found out after the war that plants they thought were totally destroyed were up and running a week later.

A fab, or other super high tech factories, would appear to be much more vulnerable. I wonder how this will play out in the wars of the future.
