I understand that if the weapon is in the game, it's a valid weapon, but I still hate the panzer.
The problem with it is that, even in the hands of a noob, it's undefeatable. As an experienced player, I feel that if I see them first, I should be able to avoid their shot. If it was 20% slower or a bit weaker it would be fine. As it is, as soon as you hear it, you're dead.
Also the noobs who use them indoors killing several teammates tend to irk me.
The performance of the Cell's in order core has been described as delivering about a third of the performance of a PowerPC 970 at the same clock rate. That still leaves respectable power for word processing, rendering HTML, etc. The only times most people hit 100% load on a workstation is when they are doing stuff the Cell excels at. For many, a computer with an interface that runs somewhat slower than their current machine, but renders hugely complex 3D video in realtime would be a must have.
The problem though, is that the OS and apps to do this well don't exist yet. But linux and Maya (both announced) might be enough to get a lot of people over.
Very nice. Linux and OS X have been needing this. If you're opening your source, I've been idly looking for something to hack a civ like networked game onto. Worldwind is.NET, and I don't want to go there.
It's too bad about the TOS issues, as so many cool hacks aren't being done. Maybe google will open the API like they did google search. (every user has to get a google key, restricts use to 1000 reqs a day).
Classic. Equating criticism of Israel. the state, with white supremacy and anti-semitisim. Fuck you. The OP wasn't even criticising, just stating facts, yet you have to pull out that tired, old, card. Maybe the Jewish conspiracy theories would die if we could have an honest disscusion about Israeli politics, without screaming "Nazi!" and hiding behind accusations of racism.
"satellites aren't allowed to take pictures of it"
The fact that Area 51 (and a few others) are blurred out in US gov provided photos is no surprise, but lots of other people have satellites, and they can take whatever pictures they want.
World Wind rocks, 'tis true, but it's also windows only (so far), demanding on hardware (cache space and rendering), and doesn't have the route finding/search integration google maps does.
Back in the day, I was using a pirated copy of 3D Studio 4. I was 14 or 15, so it's not like I was going to be dropping $3000 on it anytime soon.
A friend and I went to Comdex, and wound up spending some time chatting at the Studio Max booth, watching demos of Max. To make a long story short, we both walked out of there with two free boxed copies of Max, which was retailing for $4000! So, especially in the high-end content creation market, the companies know when it's worth looking the other way. They knew we would pirate it if we had to, simply because there was no other way to learn the software.
You're correct, but who waits long to compile one file? You're either compiling one smallish file, that will compile and link in seconds, or you trigger a larger compile that can be parallelized.
It's a blog. The only difference between it and what you describe is that there are more "editors" posting.
Note the double quotes there. They are not journalists. Slashdot exhibits little of the professionalism we would expect from a newspaper. The misspellings alone should be enough to convince anyone, especially considering the amount of words written.
I would give Gene Expression as an example of something that while clearly a "blog", has several editors and sticks to much higher standards.
But many programs could be running more tasks (threads) at once, so two tasks could mean many threads. If the standard computer had multiple cores, developers would feel more comfortable about spawning long lived, CPU intensive threads in apps. It's kind of a chicken/egg problem, though.
Still, before we get up to 32 cores in a desktop, I'd rather have a fanless, smaller, cheaper box. I also think asymmetrical designs like the Cell make more sense.
I read that at an implicit threat to Microsoft. Translation; "so can an OS that 90% of computer users wouldn't even notice it's not Windows, except it doesn't crash".

CUSTOMER: Why?
MORTICIAN: He hasn't got shit all over him.
We all would have been what our fathers were.
You are an idiot, considering that your saviour wasn't born for 212 years after Archimedes died.
Well, I've never been to Texas, but I have been to Africa, and I have a hard time imagining a US city so poor.
The problem though, is that the OS and apps to do this well don't exist yet. But linux and Maya (both announced) might be enough to get a lot of people over.
At least I've yet to see someone start foaming at the mouth while describing how much it hurt them.

People, we can have the internet like we want it, or like corporate interests want it. If the GNU fanatics weren't there, the web would suck.

BTW, google is also free.
You say tomato, I say fuck you!

Like shooting fish in a barrel, really.
Hacking, mostly.
Commercial CD burners are capable of customizing each burn automaticly in the way you describe.
The computers were twin G5's made by Apple. "Mac" is the right label.

It's a huge benefit to gamers, if the games take advantage of them.

That'll get fixed in a service pack.
It worked with the ps2.

"Skank" and "cunt" are a bit much for someone questioning an AC's claims. Give us some details or shut up.
