Well, it made mine a X-Brick 360... I have to send mine for service now.
I downloaded the update at approximately 6:15AM EST. Went through 2 progress bars and then my screen went black (no VGA signal). I let it sit for 2 minutes with no response. Shut the machine off (had to go to work).
Came home today, it failed to go through the familar boot sequence, and called support. After 15 minutes on hold (researching the problem), I was told that I would have to send it in. The representative told me that "there was nothing in the update that should cause that problem". I told her, it was working great until I installed the update. So, what else could it have been.
Fortunately, I had the foresight to purchase the service contract. Unfortunately, I'm without an XBox 360 for 7-10 business days.
I know my experience is not common, but I'm pretty upset.
It's going to rain all night / morning here in Philadelphia. I'm not going to Wal-mart at 12:01AM (are they nuts?). It's not worth getting sick over or shot trying to get it home.
I'm hoping the rain paired with relative cheapness of people in this area will work for me tomorrow.
Target is my destination.
Funny, Hillary threatens to go to the FTC. Then, Rockstar's GTA:SA gets moved to adults only rating in less than a week, diffusing a possible government showdown before it happens. Thus, Rockstar averts costly trial and additional bad media exposure.
Does anyone else think ESRB and Rockstar have a better than average relationship these days?
As I said before, Microsoft's "limited backward compatabilty" stance has singled handedly devalued all of the games you currently own and has stifled the current games market with fears of incompatbilty. Good work.
I'm done with Bill's shinanigans.
eBaying right now...
Xbox 360's backward compatability sounds like a "knee-jerk, spur of the moment" decision to meet market outcry (and Sony's moves).
This "limited" backward compatability of a few select high selling titles is lame at best. In one statement, Microsoft has devalued everyone's current library of XBox games and also decreased demand for all the Xbox games currently on the market. People will shy away from buying new games fearing incompatabilty or only buy the most popular titles (hurting smaller or niche developers).
I will convert / trade my favorite titles (that can be) over to the PS2 (which will run on the PS3) and eBay the rest of my Xbox collection. 360 can stay on the shelves. I'm tired of getting boned by Bill.
I learned nothing. Actually, I lie. I learned that Microsoft knows nothing about the game industry. Gamers want demos, clips, and specs. Not 3rd rate bands and Frodo's outing as a corporate bitch.
I think E3 competition will let us know who really holds the cards in the next round.
Mostly glitz. Very little info. No word on backward compatibilty.
The system is lame looking and still too big. Madden was the only clip that impressed at all.
The funny thing... They are targeting teens and 20 somethings. Samsung is co-promoting HDTVs with XBox 360. How many in that age range can afford both the game system and the HDTV to really enjoy it?
Clue M$, just because you have Frodo and some ganagsta wannabes doesn't make you cool. It just shows how lame and truly out of touch you are.
I love Battlefront. Ya it's more of the same, but that shouldn't discredit it. In fact, I play it more than Halo 2.
Any Star Wars fan (or fanatic) should love it because of the ability to play any character or use any vehicle. It's what I've always wanted in a Star Wars game since playing ESB on the Atari 2600 (the first Star Wars game).
The Hoth battle is worth the price of admission alone. The most underrated game of 2004 IMO.
Hmmm... I just noticed that you chose to reinforce your argument with your examples but skirted around my rebuttal examples that refute you. Now your the one who's being selective!
And they're going to get ahold of it either way once they're old enough to care - making criminals out of them over that, or out of a 18-year-old who lets his 16-year-old brother have a peek, is just stupid.
I'm not saying the recipient is the criminal. The seller is the criminal. Stop twisting the argument to make your view sound more correct. By your logic, it's ok to sell cigarettes or alcohol to a minor too.
And on the brother giving a peek... It is still a criminal act. Your just futzing with the numbers and the scenario. I could say the child is a 9 year old and the presenter a 40 year old uncle to make it sound more improper. A lot of cases of incest at first involved just a peek... When something is wrong, it's wrong. Let's not start the age old debate over natural law.
Meth cookers will just go and rob a warehouse instead of shoplifting from the corner store. Meanwhile, law-abiding people who get a cold are inconvenienced.
I live around a lot of "junkies" in Philadelphia. They are forever stealing this stuff off of shelves to supply cookers for money. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Have you even looked at the sales numbers for "GTA:San Andreas" or "Halo 2? GTA sold $250 million in 2 weeks! Halo 2 was $150 million + in that same time period. Both rated 'M'.
With response 2, you've proven my argument, that developers don't want sales channel restrictions due to the "pornography" label.
And, 3 is a bogus argument. No one is talking about making developers do anything. They can still make 'M' rated games. But, they probably won't get the wide distribution they feast on now (with a great deal of the sales being minors who shouldn't have it in the first place). In fact, if they could make a 'E' rated gardening game that had $200,000,000 in sales, we probably wouldn't even be discussion this. Face it, it's the taboo that's drving the sales.
Game publishers don't want laws like this because once some games are deemed to be pornagraphic (either by sex or excessive violence) then it makes it harder to sell. The "Target"s, "Wal-Mart"s and "Toy 'R' Us"s of the world won't sell that type of material. Thus, the game distribution channel shrinks drastically
I'm in favor of the laws. It's illegal for a minor to purchase "Hustler" and illegal for an adult to give it to a minor. Freedom of speech is not restricted because it can still be sold to the audience that it is legally intended for. And, furthermore, it's content isn't edited.
Game companies police themselves but not the sales channel. It's standard doublespeak. There's no interest in restricting the distribution on their part. They want the money. Period.
Totally Agreed.
I felt like I was punished for choosing the dark side with that ending.
Went to eBay the day after I finished.
Dark Side killing got to be ho-hum after a while.
..people wanting to play something that's fun. What's the video game industry coming too...
Lego Star Wars increases divorce filings.
Dead Rising; graves must be boring.
Master Chief wears thong under armor.
What? Have you even seen "Dead Rising?" Definitely not the same old XBox,,,
For it's day, that was one of the sweetest 2D games.

Didn't you post this somewhere else (like a MaCNN forum)? Telling a dumb joke twice doesn't make it funnier.

Huh?
I love people who base their product evaluations on competing technology that doesn't even exist yet.
I think XBox 360 wil be greater than the immersive virtual sex machine Larry Flint is selling.
Ditto.

Currently watching the special.

They seem to have sold quite well.
1/3 of 5 million is sales is 1.6 million. What do you call a great deal?

Well, it's quite simple actually...

I was the first to say it.
MS just doesn't get it. The average age of the video gamer is 29.
Not likely to watch Punk'd TV. More likely to have the disposable income required to purchase the blasted thing.
Just give up Bill. You'll never win. I know it hurts to be second best. But, maybe you might gain some humility in the process.
Look at it this way...You'll always have monkey boy!
Totally Agreed. I felt like I was punished for choosing the dark side with that ending. Went to eBay the day after I finished. Dark Side killing got to be ho-hum after a while.

Last time I heard it, PlayStation sales (most game licensing profts) are about 50%-60% of Sony's bottom line.
It's the PS2 that's keeping them afloat.
