Well, it made mine a X-Brick 360... I have to send mine for service now.

I downloaded the update at approximately 6:15AM EST. Went through 2 progress bars and then my screen went black (no VGA signal). I let it sit for 2 minutes with no response. Shut the machine off (had to go to work).

Came home today, it failed to go through the familar boot sequence, and called support. After 15 minutes on hold (researching the problem), I was told that I would have to send it in. The representative told me that "there was nothing in the update that should cause that problem". I told her, it was working great until I installed the update. So, what else could it have been.

Fortunately, I had the foresight to purchase the service contract. Unfortunately, I'm without an XBox 360 for 7-10 business days.

I know my experience is not common, but I'm pretty upset.

Xbox 360's backward compatability sounds like a "knee-jerk, spur of the moment" decision to meet market outcry (and Sony's moves).

This "limited" backward compatability of a few select high selling titles is lame at best. In one statement, Microsoft has devalued everyone's current library of XBox games and also decreased demand for all the Xbox games currently on the market. People will shy away from buying new games fearing incompatabilty or only buy the most popular titles (hurting smaller or niche developers).

I will convert / trade my favorite titles (that can be) over to the PS2 (which will run on the PS3) and eBay the rest of my Xbox collection. 360 can stay on the shelves. I'm tired of getting boned by Bill.

I'm not saying the recipient is the criminal. The seller is the criminal. Stop twisting the argument to make your view sound more correct. By your logic, it's ok to sell cigarettes or alcohol to a minor too.

And on the brother giving a peek... It is still a criminal act. Your just futzing with the numbers and the scenario. I could say the child is a 9 year old and the presenter a 40 year old uncle to make it sound more improper. A lot of cases of incest at first involved just a peek... And, 3 is a bogus argument. No one is talking about making developers do anything. They can still make 'M' rated games. But, they probably won't get the wide distribution they feast on now (with a great deal of the sales being minors who shouldn't have it in the first place). In fact, if they could make a 'E' rated gardening game that had $200,000,000 in sales, we probably wouldn't even be discussion this. Face it, it's the taboo that's drving the sales.

  21. Re:What is the issue here? on CA Violent Games Bill Moves Forward · · Score: 4, Insightful

    Well, it's quite simple actually...

Game publishers don't want laws like this because once some games are deemed to be pornagraphic (either by sex or excessive violence) then it makes it harder to sell. The "Target"s, "Wal-Mart"s and "Toy 'R' Us"s of the world won't sell that type of material. Thus, the game distribution channel shrinks drastically

I'm in favor of the laws. It's illegal for a minor to purchase "Hustler" and illegal for an adult to give it to a minor. Freedom of speech is not restricted because it can still be sold to the audience that it is legally intended for. And, furthermore, it's content isn't edited.

Game companies police themselves but not the sales channel. It's standard doublespeak. There's no interest in restricting the distribution on their part. They want the money. Period.
