One thing you need to consider is that not all medical accidents are evenly distributed. If you go to an experianced surgeon you are far less likely to have something go wrong. That data is an average of all Lasik surgery combines which includes first timers cutting into people's eyeballs.
If you really fear chances like thisn you need to stop driving a car right now. The chances of a wreck might not be 1/1000 but it can lead to death which is worse than blindness in my opinion. You know what, dont even leave your living room, your far less likely to experiance crime or any bodily harm if you just never go outside.

One thing you are forgetting is that the market price of any product sold is nto determined by the cost to produce it. Bigger cars are more expensive not becuase they cost more. Bigger cars are more expensive because people are willing to pay more. This is a key sublety that many people dont understand. If people were willing to pay more for electric cars then the car companies would make them. The sad fact though is that much of the cars sold today are all about machoism and socioeconomic status. An electric car says "hippie who gives a damn about the environment" aka a "loser for showing weakness by caring" to many of the peers of car buyers.

These computers DO pose a security risk and this is nothing new. The issue is not trojan software or keyloggers installed. What the state department does not want is to have to speak with someone in China for support. If you need to go to China for support then someone in china might know your network topology and what kinds of other security features are or are not in place. This also has nothing to do with it being from China and everything to do with it not being American. If the computers were made in France and you needed to call France for support they would not allow it.
Remember that when they want security they dont just want security on a random 500 computers. Usually if they do any type of check it is to ALL the computers on a network. These systems are too critical to even let 1 key logger slip by.

The idea is to build new cleaner energy sources and the fuel cells are just a way to get that energy into mobile devices that normally need their own power plant such as a car.
