Although capicitors and resistors have gotten better some parts havent. Digital electronics and many other kinds of modern chips are mroe fragile than old parts. I just had a 40 year old oscilliscope die on me a couple of months ago but it worked fine untill then. A lot of new parts like the laser parts of a disc player are more fragile than a more sturdy mechanical piece of a VCR. In my opinion its a combination of several things. The quality of parts is down and the type of parts being made are more likely to break if something small goes wrong.

I know it says "unmount"... why cant you assume im not using bash? There are shells and systems out there that use "unmount". I would change it but i think sometimes its funny when people flame me for not knowing whats going on becuase of my sig.
Pi cannot be solved with in a sense that would make anyone with only a high school education happy. When you figure out Pi its not actually the real number your going after. You are trying to measure an nth sided figure. If you found the measurements of a 10^10th sided figure it would be close but its still not a REAL circle. You must measure an infinity sided figure to get the REAL number.
You dont have to believe in god. One of the steps is to find a higher power to help you stop. For religious people that would be god but you do not have to find religion to quit your addiciton.
Have you ever lived with someone with an addiction to games? How is gaming addiction less harmful than alcohol? Addicts spend huge amounts of money of computers and internet connection. They lose huge amounts of money by spending their time playing games. Relationships go to hell just like any other drug addict. I have seen both drug addiction and game addiction... its the same thing. An addict is an addict regardless of what they are addicted to. The way for an addict to get helpis with a 12 step program. Not many game addicts need a 12 step program to stop if it affects their life but also many people are just fine with stopping alcohol if they need to.There are also people who are addicted to both and they must understand its all addiction. They arent getting any better unless they treat the addiction not the drug.
Of course i'm not perfect but i might as well point out thats its "misspelled". I get flamed all the time for not going over every work but its not as bad as getting modded down as "offtopic" on topics such as this.
I hope they have a new IBM server running linux. Their old room full of servers would suck more juice... almost makes you glad their servers were stolen.
According to TIA/EIA-569-A the humidity of computer/network equipment spaces should be 30%-50%. These fuel cells let out barely even drops of water and they create heat to evaporate it off to if you have even basic ariflow in the area it wont mess up your equipment.

The life to mars site is pretty cool too. I think the best idea is the comm sat on mars. If there were soem dedicated communications satalites up there maybe some of the problems with failed missions could be avoided.
First of all you cant take pictures of atoms. Light of the wavelengths we see cannot give us a clear enough picture. Once you start putting enough energy into light to get the waves small enough to see whats going on the Heisenburg uncertainty theorum kicks and and its all useless info.
Ok so assuming you could take a picture of an atom it would still not do you any good. The data is stored in the spin of the electrons. Just as you cannot take a picture of voltage (like the computer your using to read this uses to keep track of bits) you cannot take a picture of spin.
So still assuming you can take a picture of these atoms a picture only shows color/location but if you film a spinning ball it wont look different than a still one. You would not be able to tell the differance between a 1 or 0.
The wheels wouldn't be so hard. As you mentions covers could be used. You could have the wheels placed well into the middle of the car. The main problem would be clearance over the ground. You would probably need to drop some type of skirt like one thats used in a hovercraft.
You guys are talking about technology which is perfectly reasonable but then i stop and think "YOU GUYS ARE TLAKING ABOUT INVISIBLE CARS"... maybe some things cant be figured out all the way... jesus given enough time lost of things are possible but do we really need to argue about this when we have no fucking clue... i think its fun to do this but at least admit none of us know what we could really do.
If you wanna talk to them to see how hopped up they are (or maybe inquire as to prices). You can meet them on IRC. Get onto Quakenet and go into #dreamhack. I talked to em last year and they gave a lot of insight to what you dont see on the webpage. Its also a lot of fun to listen to them talk.
You dont wanna put in each room one by one. You should put some code in to read coordinates off a list and make a map out of em. You simply tweak the measurements to change the world. Even though i do that it still get tedious to put a story line in each area.
I was about to call a repost when i realized it has been about a year since i saw this story. Oh yah i saw last year's story on slashdot. You can check out pics from last year at Dreamhack 2001. That overview pic is one of the coolest things i have ever seen.

The drivers for linux are along with Matrox the best you can get. Everything is wonderful with my Geforce 4 under Mandrake 9 and i love it.
