bluetooth is really only meant for printer sharing/wireless mice and keyboards/non-bandwidth intensive networking (such as simple messaging)... not for me for the price
WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT THE DEPRECIATION. Sorry to shout but i get worked up over this. Recently i spent several hundred dollars on computer parts. Literally hours after i did so the online store marked some of the items down on my order by about 40%. I wasn't mad. The way i see it is this: Whenever you buy comptuer parts dont go for the cheapest part available. Buy whatever is right for the money you have. When i see a part go down i just bought i think to myself "it would be nice to get it cheaper but i AM willing to spend what i did on that item". If your spending too much on an item dont buy it, otherwise be happy that you got it and ignore what the current price is. Your going to drive yourself crazy chasing all these prices around in circles so just buy what you can and dont look back.
oic now... thanks for the info. although i now think this is not a bug i still wish that slashdot didn't have to do that. and yes i have seen the page widening trolls usually linked to goatse.cx... not fun but there has to be another way...
Ok fair enough... decide for myself. But the reason i asked is because this seems to not be a very large problem and i wanted to know other's opinions on it. All software is insecure to some degree and what i really wanted to know was what exactly should i be worried about and what should i do. from reading other posts this seems to not be a big enough deal to do anything.
Slashdot has a bug with strings of chars longer than a certain amount. Look at my sig... that space is not there but nomatter what i do its always there. How do we get this fixed?
Ok well first of all my sig is not a list of commands. Its simply a list of comptuer related terms one of which is "unmount". And acutally you dont "umount" a volume you "unmount" the volume using the command "umount". But yes i DO use Mandrake and i AM in high school. Were you A+ certified in high school? Where you getting ready to get your CCNA becore the age of 17? Ok just quit judging what i do and quit trying to compare my progress towards yours. Untill you have started setting up linux clients in a high school dont trash mandrake. I dont want to turn this into a mandrake vs. slack flame war on slashdot but if oyu want i could take that argument ANY day.
The thing that worries me the most about this topic is the mention of "waveform tetectors" its all fine if someone can say "hey thats my music" but if now they have patents on simple waveforms its going to be VERY hard to write your own music and i DONT think its because we have founbd all the melodies
Actually not really. Most of the time when people have a.ogg file it is something they ripped from their own cd. MP3's are more often swapped files that they never ripped themselves.
Maybe i wasn't clear enough. You are right that the NDA was not the original cause of the fork. The thing about this issue is that now they cannot incorporate their code back into the main tree becasue they need an edge. As much as we dont like selling software it is required on a project like this to get some funding. Transgaming has a pretty good system going and personally this is how i would like to see pay software done.
Awww be quite. Mandrake has had this since rc 1 (9.0 is not out YET) but it doesn't mean this is bad. I am very glad to see this becuase it means strong encryption will be brought to people who toehrwise would not learn it. I think default strong encryption is a good idea becuase as we all know a non-techie probably wont spend time working on encrypting emails. It has to be there without them doing anyhting for it to get used.
No, sorry your wrong. Winex was forked because the makers are under NDA. They used copy-protection circumvention devices (as in DMCA) but to do so legally they cannot give the code away. It was forked because the old WINE license required all source to be given away. They changed it and now can sell their product without breaking any laws.
Winex DOES charge money but not for all things. If you dont subscribe you can download the CVS version which contains no copy-protection code and is pure source. For $5 a month you get constant software updates, ability to vote on development, and technical support. Also once oyu pay you get access to all the binaries that you cant get otherwise.
So really in my opinion Winex is the best thing since emacs (an invention so useful it can almost replace sliced bread but i think thats a few patches away);)
And of course the AthlonXP. I personally dont like the name but they are a company who is out to get money so i dont oppose them naming it this way. It just means more people are comfortable buying a budget chip.
In case everyone doesn't know what "double pumped" or "DDR FSB" mean let me explain. The clock that sets how often data is transfered clicks over and over to keepo the pace. On an Athlon it transfers data twice for every click. On a Pentium 4 its 4 times a click. Right now most Athlons run at 133mhz "DDR FSB". Mine already runs at 166mhz (overclocked of course) and let me tell you its sweet. I cant wait to see everyone have access to 166 mhz FSB Athlons.
I never heard about that. Sounds very cool to read more about. But yah as i said wireless power is not very feasable because even if it wnt through the air you would not be wise to walk in etween the wall and your computer:)

Actually comptuers can survive quite well under high heat. The main bproblem are plastice peices on the cdrom as you said and lcd's warp under even little heat. Even though those fail that actual chips wont. Many comptuter chips are cooked at several hundred degrees when they are being assembled to keep out every trace of moisture possible.
This has always been kind of a dream of mine. IO always hear baout 802.11b/bluetooth and wireless this wireless that. Why not wireless power? Of course it wont actually work ion the average home but it could be possible to build a tesla coil and then build a receptor that brings the voltage down so the mobo can use it. The problem is that there would have to be some serious caps in there to store energy for the comp untill the next blast from the coil. Also you dont need a tesla coil to power a mobo to higher voltage. Even a 250W power supply could fry tyhe hel out of the average motherboard if you set it to. So even though this looks cool its prob a fake but maybe someone WILL make somehting like this.
too bad its a fake... i saw those pics before SETI@HOME came out...

i think the idea is to buy several... the good thing about this offer is that you can get a lot of em that are all withing range of each other... so really we need hundreds of thousands of dollars which might not be too much for some of the crazy hams out there...
Well as much as i personally agree with your point let me play devil's advocate and show you their thinking. Its not the current situation that is going to make them lose money. They are scared that in the future something will cause a mass switch over to p2p and they wont get any money. Personally i dont htink this will happen but this is why they are doing what they do.
Now the problem with their motivation is that its not going to get congress angry with them. They must make it look like they are being hurt NOW and must take IMMEDIATE measures to stop the swappers. If they simply said "we are afraid that in the future this non-issue will become a problem" than nobody would help them.
So really I think we are int he right as swappers. This is absolute BS they are pushing because they are scared and greedy which is a bad combination.

mozilla is secure (GPG built in) or insecure (privacy leak)...
personally i use it so im not bashing it or this article... but realyl i wanna know... should i use it or not?

they dont even have to be this insidious...
they just say "fine were selling only DRM cd's that play on DRM ears, dont like it dont buy it"
i honestly dont know what people would decide

i bet this is what went down as timothy saw this article and glanced over at his own wall:
Internet: "That "Marvo the Magic Monkey" specimen hanging on your wall may not really date back to 1879"
Timothy: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
... winex seems to ork pretty good for most of my windows needs...

Oh god you got modded insightful. Just for those of you who didn't mod as "funny" its impossible to make perpetually powered computers.
