The odds are 1 in 1,309 that we will wrap this thing up in the next 24 hours. (This also means that we'll exhaust the keyspace in 1,309 days at yesterday's rate.)

There have been 298,204 participants since the beginning of this project.
32,230 of them were active yesterday and of those, 99 were brand-new participants.

    There are 11,524 registered teams.

I work with credit cards and deal with credit card fraud on a daily basis. Basically e-gold or any credit->"anonymous currency" transfer service is going to attract scum because it can act as a money laundering service to them.

This wouldn't be an issue if the Credit Card Companies would deal with their problems instead of insisting on the merchants eating the fraudulent charges!!!!!

Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and AMEX just don't want to force accountability on their customers, and haven't provided merchants with a avenue to validate the identity of a customer! If they did this, all these fraud problems would stop, virtually overnight.

No one wants to stop fraud more than the merchants, believe me.

Arg! This subject pisses me off so much because if the card companies could pull their heads out of their asses long enough, they could decide on a key based protocol that could virtually eliminate the easy kind of fraud that happens today.

read the post again. I said that it was a personal note, and that my intellectual reasons for supporting IP were different. And frankly, I see nothing whatsoever "constitutionally shady" about current copyright law. The constant extensions are a bit annoying, but what is 20 or 50 years after a person's death?

The constant extensions are more than annoying, they're unconstitutional if you follow the arguement of the dissenting judge. Having read his/her arguement I tend to agree.

    From the judges text:
"The majority acknowledges that "[i]f the Congress were to make copyright protection permanent, then it surely would exceed the power conferred upon it by the Copyright Clause." Maj. Op. at 10. However, there is no apparent substantive distinction between permanent protection and permanently available authority to extend originally limited protection. The Congress that can extend the protection of an existing work from 100 years to 120 years; can extend that protection from 120 years to 140; and from 140 to 200; and from 200 to 300; and in effect can accomplish precisely what the majority admits it cannot do directly. This, in my view, exceeds the proper understanding of enumerated powers reflected in the Lopez principle of requiring some definable stopping point. "

The earpiece would have a button on it that you hit to make the visor "listen" to you, and uses speech recognition to know who to call, and would also use speech synthesis to tell you (via CallerID/ANI) who is calling you. To receive a call you would merely tap your earpiece.

It's so elegant it's not even funny.
