I do show them Mozilla (firewhatever), and also Opera, my browser of choice, but most decide that it's not worth the hassle to go against the "norm". People are all to influenced by "Groupthink". I stopped them bothering with GAIM or trillian. The pressure to use what's accepted is what really keeps the free software revolution from happening.
I guess that I would qualify. I'm a 16 year old high school student, and I go around and help people (Mostly refered through my Mother) set up and clean up computers. It's dangerous world out there, and most people really dont know the basics of safety. I set up Antivirus, Antispyware, some basic IE hardening (Why is a signature good enough to run an activex control by default?), and intstuct in thier use. I also do routers, which are increasingly common in my town. $20 an hour, but most people throw in a tip. Increasingly, people need me and others like me because they dont know or dont care about how their computer really works.
Legal ground or not, that's what they do, and they threaten you with more lawsuits if you speak the slightest word of protest. A small university could very easily find itself burried under the red tape and lawsuits when a group such as the RIAA attacks, regardless of legal standing.
Yeah, Have you met those Boy scouts? They've got a salute, songs... They're a cult! What other purpose could those wooden cars serve than as mind control devieces?
Then how come they routinely do? Every encounter I've seen or heard of with the BSA has seemed more X-Filesish than like an inquiry by a buisness orginzation. They come in, hold up some important looking papers, and say "Let us audit and then sue you or else we'll sue you, then audit you, then sue you again". I've heard of them taking liscence documents to audit them, then having never have seen them when asked to give them back in the court case. The BSA is Bad News. They're out to make money, the same way Tony Soprano is. At my name not to be disclosed School, yes, school, they required that computer clases be cancled for days at a time while the liscence investigation was going on.
True, but I disagree with Symantec's product activation. I wish there were a better way to give people antivirus software than that. I'll probably just end up buying NAV anyway and writing the about it.
How do the subscriptions count? They could be seen as selling all 500,000 songs with each subscription... all they need is 10 subscribers (Which, considering the DRM and shitty software, is more than they should have gotten).
This was modded funny, but Vigilante anti ATM-scammers may be a good idea. Freelance geeks who get cool toys in return for making the world safer. Win-Win situation.
These people are looking to be put in charge of my Packets, yet they cant even keep a couple of geeks out of a confrence room? I'm sure we'll all feel REALLY safe ordering online with them in charge.
That will not work unless you put the card in a lead box. E-Z Pass boxes are designed to work through large metalic objects, probably because they have to be able to do so to operate. The cheif subscribers to E-Z Pass are trucking companies, as it's cheaper, faster, and means that drivers dont have to know how to count change. Those trucks are perfect for jamming a standard RFID signal, but E-X Pass still operates. Hiding the box will most likley put it closer to the ground where the speeding sensors are, not farther.
Patents are applicable from the Invetion date till 20 years after the award date. This has lead to some odd stuff as patents have been set on the backburners for 20+ years and backroyalties have added up for companies who have inadvertantly created something that falls under that patent and who have to pay after the award.
in a window free of navigation and other interface elements, known as "chrome," and browser security restrictions.
So now we have microsoft with patenting a new way of creating macicious popups with windows. Knowing Microsoft, stuff like Gator and Eyeblaster ad's will soon show up in this space and, without my usual restrictions, everyone who uses Internet Explorer will soon have spyware again. While it'll be quite profitable (for me too, I do computer repair and tune ups), This could easily become a HUGE annoyance for systems administrators around the world. Time to switch everything to Mozilla and Opera.
The problem is, most people dont yet understand the diffrence between a monitor and a computer, so why should they understand the diffrence between operating systems? Linux still has never gotten mass media coverage in any real way. Until the 6'oclock news or the NY Times frontpage have in depth coverage of the fact that other operating systems exist, the average person, even the average high income person, will not understand that Linux is a (generally) better proposition than windows or that it is even another proposition.
Anyone have a clue what this is? Sounds like a crypt of some sort. Perhaps what the Dept is looking for...
I happen to maintain a list of what software various vendors included in their "Basic" package at what years.
Then I say "Screw it" and install OO.o
A time machine, to take you to 2110 when it comes out.

Thats not true at all. You can't uninstall evil

Shadowy? Since when are the NSA guys "Shadowy"? I have an uncle who used to work for them (he's retired), and he's a great guy.
Although, that may describe why he always has those blind marks across his face.

Not true
One SCO Freedom liscence: 699 Billion dollars.
One ticket to Paris: $400
Someone from slashdot getting a date with a hot french girl? Impossible.
There are some things money cannot possibly buy... For everything else try Ebay.
Personaly I'd prefer something higher quality, like OGG, with better liscencing terms, like OGG, and maybe some easy third party support
My memory latency has gone down plenty since I my first server (still running, though not in use). Pc100 to DDR 400 RAM can make a HUGE diffrence.

Maybe we have diffrent models. I know I drive mostly through the newer versions in PA and NJ, and my card is about a year old.

well, Bilbo would seem to be another, but he's really not important to the story.
It seems really strange that The Hobbit, a story about a 3 foot tall theif, is considered a bigger event than the story of a 50 foot tall gorrilla.
I Guess size doesnt matter.
