But about how we USE computers in the classroom. teachers need to be educated about what to use them for and when. So often I see computers being misused or not used at all when they could be a valuable learning tool.
I really love waste, but I doubt that large scale sharing over it will ever acutaly happen. While its "Web of Trust" architecture and encryption makes it perfect at trumping the RIAA, its problems with scalibility and lack of speed will interfere with it. If only someone would step up and start updating it it would be an instant hit. Poor justin Frankel, having his company stolen by all too greedy AOL execs.

Ahem... Just look at the advances over the past few years in toys: Are they really all that fundamentaly diffrent? I mean, cards, cars, and dolls are still the top sellers. Why bother getting a new line of products for the holdiay season? It's not like there's anything new there.
I think I've pointed out the logical flaw sufficently.
Thats what the doctors say, but the people in my teeth know better. They know they're part of the MLB conspiracy. No-one understands but me. You're all blind! BLIND, I TELL YOU!
Website links to sites that link to ways that you can possibly illegaly download music. Employee of ISP that hosts the website gets sued. Next up: a filesharers father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate as the defendant.
As a 15 year old without any rules, I know the thing that keeps me out of porn best is the fact that I know that I could, I know that my parents wouldnt know, but I know they trust me enough not to and breaking that trust is really unthinkable. This probably wouldnt work for all kids, however, so use it at your own risk.
I have parents. I have a love of techno gadgets. I have a real problem, however, with my parents using my techno gadget to tell where I am. Sometimes people want privacy, especialy when they're playing games.
I just finished WTFA and I must say, I'm impressed. I've never seen Dr. Who before, but it seems to be an engaging and interesting Sci-Fi series. Maybe we're finaly starting to see the promised media on demand.
Its not an oxymoron, its the truth. If Microsoft is going to ship an operating system they developed to their European customers without WMP, they'd be shipping a substandard product. At the same time, if Microsoft is going to ship an operating system they developed to their European customers with WMP, they'd be shipping a substandard product.
You just proved apple and RM's point. The monopoly is not on the playing of a format, its on the playing of video files in genral. Microsoft has video software. Microsoft uses huge power to make sure that all content is released in its format. Microsoft pushes its media player and its format onto consumers because they want video and microsoft's format has a monopoly on the video market. So microsoft doesnt include RM and MOV support to further levrage its monopoly. Its simple, really.
True, but if I werent cynical this wouldnt be slashdot:)
You also have to admit that there are some very real problems with supporting the movie industry, and by extension, the MPAA. They've lobbied way to hard to get junk like Sonny Bono extension act and the DMCA passed.
Now this is a clever marketing ploy. Sure, you can go see the third episode of your (##th?) favorite trilogy, but its missing an important part... But you can buy the DVD with the parts re-added for only $19.99!
This way, they capitalize off the plebs who hear that the lord of the rings is a good story and capitilize even more off the geeks who love the story already and want despratley to see a film version. Pity the Beatles version never panned out...
Havent we been hearing "BSD IS DEAD!" from the linux/unix guys, "Linux is outdated/obfuscated!" from the Bsd guys, "Linux's inteface sucks!" from the mac guys, and "Open source is not more secure" from the corprate guys since the begining of time? Microsoft can proclaim anything they want. Me? I proclaim its just another bit of junk.
Knoppix may not have ntfs WRITE support, but its read support is perfect. Then, using Samba included on the disk, you can copy over the network to a waiting NT machine. This works for copying any files over, and for booting you can just install Grub, which works better anyway.
"nondescript metal cylinders that never seemed to be included with our Christmas toys"
Why is he talking about Nukes? I mean, yeah, you never seem to get them (Top of the list, five years running! But do my parents see fit to get one? NEVER!), but what place do they have in an article about batteries?
Basic ActiveX controls are automaticaly executed on demand by the site unless you set your security levels higher than the default. more complex controls need an accept by default, but most people seem to think that accepting every activex control is fine. I nearly beat to death a moron who clicked "Accept" to a gator installation on my school's computer.
This is REALLY bad news for the rest of the world. This means that since most people will be able to block popups, the popup companies will resort to new methods of spawing, such as java windows, automaticaly executed ActiveX controls, and hijacking the browser window through their ads. While the middle wouldnt be a problem for anyone other than IE users, the other two could pose a serious threat to my abiltiy to use the web.
If we put this into the hands of the UN, we probably will never get a consensus on what should and what shouldnt be banned. US and UK will push for blocking pornography, then France will say "But what about the 'Art'!", and that'll never happen. Then germany will try and block out refrences to Hitler, and Israel will stop that one (with US aid). Everyone will have their say, but no-one will have their day.
The way the Current US gov works, we may actualy pass some sort of law regarding what can and cannot be placed on the internet. The way the UN works, this will never happen.
Study: Millions of people fooled by shitty CNN Headlines:
Millions of morons visiting CNN today find refrence to study that contains no actual facts, and further serves the goals of RIAA member and CNN Parent Company AOL-Time warner.
This study claims that "Millions of households deleted all music files from their computer". It further goes on to claim that file sharing is dying, citing a 11% (Oh, my!) drop in users since the announcement of the RIAA's plans to sue those engaged in serving music files. Aside from failing to mention that there is no way to accuratley measure how many families have deleted all music files from their computers, they forget that from the roughly 200 million filesharers using KaZaA, if 11% dropped out their method of detecting households that have MP3's (By checking how many users are sharing files), they would have a rougly 22 million drop in households sharing music files, thus looking like 22 million has deleted them from their computer. Obviously, they forgot this simple (As in "WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK WERE YOU FUCKING FUCKERS FUCKING THINKING?", excpet requiring more explaination and being more profane.) fact when they gagued this. 11% drop in users, but only.5% drop in sharing... Seems like filesharing is still alive and kicking, despite the highly biased media's subliminal messaging.

word cleaning not bad. Doubleplusgood.

This has been an ongoing project. Newspeak for "Yeah, this is a dupe, I know it, but gosh darn it I'm gonna post it anyway!"
We could abuse this: Everyone, start sharing plenty of Polka, 80's pop, and Barney. Now lets talk about targeted marketing!
