I have set up a Wiki where I work, we store our staff meeting notes, staff directory, our current forms and templates and also use it to store a procedure manual.
Of the wikis Ive used Dokuwiki seems to be one of the best for such a purpose, light weight uses file storage (not DB) so its easier to manage documents with.
And how long before 1.3.3 was retired? It hasn't been, it's still the current stable. Many of us use the 1.3.4+ versions because the 1.3.3 has become (comparatively with the RCs) pretty limited. But I would not hold my breath on 1.4 going stable soon.
As far as how it is, I rank it along side pagemaker without all the nice spelling check, or fancy plug-ins, etc. But it is definitely something you can seriously publish with. The PDF and preflight features are a dream.
yeah, but instead of popping up a misleading screen, the user would have to be misled further to take advantage of them, top open the document on their own.
The problem is that popup screen that was allowed through the setting looks a lot like a normal Apple software update window, and Mac users are accustomed to install such updates.
The crux of the current problem is a setting in Safari that allows the computer to open"safe" documents automatically. The issue with that checkbox has been known for over a year and its one of the things I remember to do is to uncheck it (as it has been defaulted to checked, open those documents.)
Apple could have done an update to uncheck that box, or better yet remove the feature, but it sadly remained and now they are going to have to pay for thier ignorance of the issue.
Permissions upon mounting USB disks: I myself would like to hook in an external drive with an ext files system and be able to use it (or at least get a popup to verify I want permission to use it) It is so infrequent I usually end up hacing to google what I need to do to set the user rights (and of course there is more than one way to do it), I consider this a big speed bump to general user acceptance.
Audio that just works: It WAS working great with ALSA, then Pulse audio switch made things complicated again. Lets get sound stable, please?
ATI Video support Could we get a good generic driver that works with ATI, and also has a good fall back method if we bork the video drivers trying something newer.
Install Partitioning Sometime around Ubuntu 9 the installer's partitioning tool started to suck, what up with that? Also I like the encrypt partition install option, too bad its only in alternate install CD.
It makes sense, if they want to bolster Windows OS sales. Integrate Skype into the OS, then drop the other platforms. Business folk will whine because everything else is incompatible with the easy to use integrated Skype, more OS sales.
If I were the movie music industry I'd be supporting the transition to IP v6, as it reduces the ambiguity. But then again, the shadow of doubt related to IP addresses in identifying criminals is still quite large.
Another part of his argument is that the truth will be revealed in court, the purpose of many of the summons is not to get to court but to get revenue, We have seen when people take action on a false claim the companies, try to drop the matter wirhout incurring expense or wrongdoing on their part, that has highlighted there is more than a shadow of a doubt with the current method of discovery.
GPS would be far more expensive. Price per car would be excessive, and you would still need a data collection point.
By using odometer, it could be feasable to retrofit existing cars/trucks at a reasonable costs. Data collection would be ID and odometer, which would be easy as a drive through collection at collection points, etc. GPS besides the privacy issues, just seems too costly.
Part of the problem with that is how to apportion state funds... Since the driver could stay in state or drive cross country, some states might get more vehicle travel and others less..
I think a better compromise is and RF signal at state border, identifying the car and odometer reading, and then another written reading in your registration form, simple math would calculate out the apportionment. It would divulge if your car left the state, and how far it went but nothing on where.
The concept here is also to bolster US law - by successfully lobbying in other countries to pass such stuff, they can then turn back to the US officials saying, "see all the other countries are doing it!" and then persuade them to to the same at home. Similar to MS stacking the cards for ISO certification.
Well at the moment there are each their own "one baskets" so putting them into one place may magnify the collective risk, it still does not change the situation. They should consolidate and distribute - i.e. move five data centers into two, and make those two redundant.
This is a chilling sign of the times, shows that an non-managed store could do sales... so with that PHBs may decide maybe only half the staff is really necessary or just a few attendants. Yeah, more layoffs, that will fix the economy*.
I dunno, I wouldn't underestimate the productiveness of a lean funded project compared a heavily funded one. Low money might make the project teams think a bit more creatively.
I recall in school they tried to get us to think metric, the math books had the conversions, and we had the class supplies for metric education... Its amazing they finally got liters in soft drinks.
I also remember for a time many California Mile signs had both metric and imperial distances, those have been replaced back to imperial it seems.
Nowadays I think more in pixels or points than inches.

Is Sugar Toxic?
·
· Score: 4, Informative
All I can say is watch the video and then comment. I did, was more informative than most videos Ive seen lately, and poses an excellent argument on the possible cause of increased sugar leading to obesity. I think it is something worth seriously considering if you are overweight or have the health issues stated. In the last week since I saw it I cut out most processed sugars and am actually feeling better than I have in a long while.
Watch the video, decide for yourself. Will it kill you to cut down on HFCS or processed sugar? Not at all. And could it help? quite probably, so to me its worth a try.
Guess we will start seeing this along with the prescription spam emails... And stories of some kid with seizures because they actually made/used such a contraption.
It's just a prank in my book, didn't damage anything, doesn't change the fact that Apple is building a store there, not Microsoft.

Maybe they don't want anymore facepalm shots, reflecting the true economy, eh?

I bet you still think programming a PL/1 plotter driver is cool.
Dont underestimate the usefulness of such ancient skills, with 3D printing and CnC trends that skill would be in demand.
How about a thread on features we want to see:
Permissions upon mounting USB disks:

That's a start.
I wonder if there could be a drinking game made out of this.
Just thinking how such a move will be used in was that aren't expected.

Well at least that's MS logic there.

If we get rid of the taxes, I volunteer you to maintain the roads for free.

Microsoft, here's your chance!

how far would you go to get a free soda?
I could see a lot of malls and other establishments that want more foot traffic buying into this.
Yeah, they might as well call them the CLIÉ 2 - Sony has a PC track record of great looking stuff that are not as well supported as one would hope.
This is a chilling sign of the times, shows that an non-managed store could do sales... so with that PHBs may decide maybe only half the staff is really necessary or just a few attendants. Yeah, more layoffs, that will fix the economy*.
(*economy == business profits)

For some reason I think the better word is "Desperate" Like they notice their customers (well they assume they are customers) jumping on a new ship...
