This is probably the most fitting, in my perspective, folks think their PCs are "fast enough" and "capable enough" that when they are tight on money will put off purchasing a new one.
Windows 8 certainly isn't a reason people are scrambling to upgrade, not only do you get something different (change==bad to most non techies), you loose compatibility with some of the hardware and more importantly the older software you already have. This includes DVD playback.
You want sales you have to offer carrots, give the consumers more capability, less restrictions, bundle in Office... something that the consumer would think, wow, "I gotta get me one of those!"
You could enhance and refactor them so they not only differentiate from your earlier purloined version but also provide a better example. Then if the question comes up you can easily say he swiped an earlier version of my work.
Started with BASIC programming class in high school on Commodore PETs. While in school got lent a TRS-80 at home for a bit (was a donation they didn't have any use for) so I was reading a lot more books and magazines than the class curriculum. After graduation earned enough for a VIC-20 and started getting into assembly language (ahh. hand assembly, that was fun).. and just kept going from there.
I stopped buying AMD laptops firstly because the new processor naming scheme does not give me any clear picture whether one processor has better abilities than another. Intel's i# scheme does a better job. Secondly, AMD graphics chips suck on Linux a high percentage you need to do some command line work to get thengs right. (folks bash Nvidia too, from my experiences, it's just install and go, and have great performance.)
Previously I sought out AMD laptops with nVidia graphics chipsets.
My reason is because there is no compelling reason right now for me to switch. Once it is in my next Ubuntu upgrade or my ISP switches to it then I'll do so as well.
Earth has more than a bunch of rocks minerals and elements. there are surely unique organisms here not only that there is your culture and inventions. There's many ways to do things or to express ourselves, I don't think any advanced civilization has already thought of all those things. Most likely they are just as screwed up as we are and pick the first idea that works... not always the best.... so they would be in the market for different stuff, styles and ways of thinking that can be easily exported.
Not really a fan of this technology - but my thought is this would be a good place to work on fine-tuning the system to increase the effectiveness. You have several RL image sources/raw footage and know what the result should be... time to work on debugging.
Will this be a standard sexually explicit cussing and corporate death threat argument, or would you prefer additional chair throwing? At the reasonable adjustment of five pounds per 5 minutes.
is a good FOSS version of a program similar to printmaster or printshop, something to do simple signs and other designs - you could have an address lebel component that uses a database... or the database could manage the graphics... (this is probably way more work than a simple class project though)
so down to some easier data driven application....
Hers one that I think has postential and not too terribly complex - a "movie tagging database" web-based where you can plug in basic details of your favorite films (title, rating amazon URL, etc.) then have a method where users can review and, more importantly, tag the movies.
Why tagging? How easy is it to find all your vampire musicals or time travel westerns? How about rounding up your mad scientist flicks, or ones that are rainy? Having tags where one can identify obscrure/fringe/fetish genres would make finding particular films much more useful.
Get up from the desk and do a minor chore, like wash dishes or dust, arrange books take out the trash. Works for me, then I see progress off screen as well as on screen.
The Pet Synth demo is really nice - brings back memories... POKEing locations 59464, 59466, 59467 endlessly, and scrambling to turn down the amplifier when a sound program crashed.
Yep happened to me at work once or twice, maybe some computer in a CC tree got compromised and the list got out. Now this third party is using addresses on the list both the sender and recipient fields.
Not much to do about it except what your uncle did, verify you sent it and what it is. Seems he's got a better grasp of the situation.
I remember doing that in 1980something on the PET (maybe not that line, but the logic was the same). IIRC it was a type-in along with a bunch of other cheap BASIC graphics routines in a Creative Computing - later I'm sure it showed up in RUN or Transactor for the VIC/64.
It was cool for maybe a couple hours... along with thoughts of what games could I use it with (that's how we developed game ideas old-school style, starting with cool little snippets like this.)
Being a yank from the states, most publically funded entities do have some sort of rights and restrictions attached to their public funding, especially after decades of pushing "accountability" into any public funded venture. Even if it is not ran by the state it is regulated and beholding to the state.

I don't have nay friends! :-P

I run Ubuntu at home and I don't know what my ISP is using - probably CentOS...

TFR was incomplete:
TFS = The F#$@ing Summary (I think)
PC = Personal Computer
p2p = Peer to Peer usually in refernece to file sharing

Clippy... AND Comic Sans, AND that fish theme/screensaver from windows 98SE.
And now a comment from the entertainment industry...

I think we nerds need to get more facetime access to the rest of the world. All these "stranger danger" kids are now stranger danger adults.
Pair it up with some light music too, does wonders for concentration.
Both the article and the app, shows there's more possibilities in ordinary/unexpected things. Excellent hack.
No it's not.
That's just contradiction.

Looks like it was a good lineup of talks.

Iv'e seen Windows 8, I know what ticky tack little boxes look like.
Sorry I should have used TWOSFKAM (The Windows Operating System Formerly Known As Metro)
