Interesting reading. You do realize he was captured in a firefight in Afghanistan don't you? That is the very definition of enemy combatant. He pled guilty to five charges and is serving an 8 year sentence for murder. Hardly sounds like a tourist and at least he can look forward to going home one day. I'm not a fan of Guantanamo Bay, if people are caught they should be tried and sentenced if guilty or sent home if innocent. This crap of holding on to people for years with no trial is definetly wrong and should be stopped.

And I'm pretty sure they enjoy looking at Porn so the dude would have been fine on a trip to the US.

That's because Apple is a hardware company foremost. It works the other way with them. They don't want you installing their software on other hardware and work to prevent it. Microsoft is being forced into attacking linux on ARM in this way because they can't really compete against them any other way on that platform and they are desperate not to start losing market share even if they maintain their monopoly on pc architecture. MS knows that once linux really starts to take hold anywhere at all they are in danger everywhere.

This is borderline FUD. Yes it's possible to poison the code but with a proprietary closed system it's damn near certain you're backdoored. If for nothing else than for the company who sells the software to keep tabs on it. It's in their best interests not to sell you out because loss of credibility means loss of revenue but if the stakes are high enough they can be persuaded. For this reason it's not a problem for the average Joe usually but if you have anything you want kept secure and the stakes are high you'd be a fool to rely on your proprietary OS being secure. Risk management rules apply.

The bad thing is that people who drive 30mpg cars will get hurt too. Generally people driving 12mpg cars have money to pay for the fuel. Even at 10 bucks a gallon I can afford to drive my 4x4 that gets 10mpg because I don't commute in it. It's for off roading and only gets driven maybe 2 thousand miles a year tops. Unfortunately I do have to commute to work and even though my auto for that gets better mileage it still adds up. I, however, make enough to pay that even though I would of course like to avoid it if possible. The problem is all the people on the edge. That shit will just push them over it. With resulting resentment and anger and a backlash in the polls. Yeah, jack up everyones gas tax. Go ahead, once they feel the pain they'll make sure their congress critter feels it back.

I took it out of the closet in 2000 to find an old recipe for my wife that she had placed on disk years earlier. After printing the recipe I left the computer out and my son came in from school and said "The C64! Leave that out." Trying to protect games makes them suck. I remember I had a game from EA on my C64 that hammered the hell out of my disk drive every time it loaded. It took almost 5 minutes to load and by the time it was finished the drive was hot enough to fry with. It finally hammered it out of alignment and I had to fix it. I finally learned at a user group meeting (when I was stationed in Germany in the 80's, damn those German crackers were good) how to strip the protection off the disk and I never, ever bought a legit copy of any EA software since. As a matter of honor I always pay for shareware but those who try to stick it to me I stick it to them. Screw EA.
