It's already too late for all practical purposes. Eventually carbon output will see significant decline but not in time to do much about the next 100 years. That ship has sailed. Big Oil and Coal are on their way out. Everyone knows it, it's just a matter of time. When battery technology gets to the point you can go off grid on a middle class income it'll be the tipping point. Renewables are the future. Not all the coastal people will be fine, not all are rich. Especially in other parts of the world where billions live in potential flood zones. It's going to be ugly there. Florida ain't looking good either. I just retired and I'm about to buy a new home. I'm going to start with 4 panels and work my way up on a solar system. I look forward to not having to shell out 150 to 300 dollars a month. The green part is just cherry on top.

Does it really matter whether you believe it or not? You don't have to believe the sun will come up tomorrow either, it does that without your belief. We're on a warming trend, carbon in the atmosphere is causing it and man puts a lot of that carbon there. The only problem I have with the climate change evangelists is their "the sky is falling" hysteria. Life happens and you deal with it. The oceans will rise and we have to prepare for that. It's better to start before it gets really bad because it's cheaper and better that way. In the next 8 decades or so we're going to get sea rise of somewhere around 20 to 30 inches. This wont cause the end of mankind but given all the coastal cities it will cause a lot of suffering and expense. If we wait until they start to flood it will be much worse.

Yes the world is getting warmer. That's pretty obvious, all you need is a thermometer. It's going to suck to be on the coast. We're looking at a significant rise in ocean levels somewhere around 20 inches most likely by 2100. It's not the end of the world but it'll suck for a lot of people. Best to start preparing for it now.

  5. The reason the marketplace doesn't work and that stuff like this happens is because of government regulations. The DMCA, copyright forever and patents for everything are government things that are used to manage the people for corporation benefits. In a completely libertarian environment John Deere would never think to try something like this because it would be suicide. People who think that government can solve all their problems are the slow learners. In this issue as with most government IS the problem.

I've made plenty of responses to lefties on twitter. Most of the time I avoid profanity and always avoid obscenities and the F bomb. I'm amazed at people that get on twitter and say horrible things to other people they don't even know. I have had people call me names and just as a social experiment I responded in a reasoned manner ( remembering my 7 habits classes ) and continued to argue my point. At the end I almost always got one of two solutions. Either they called me bad names and then blocked me, or surprisingly, they became calmer and began to debate in a reasoned manner and in the end agreed to disagree. I've trolled on /. a few times but with twitter I've been experimenting and it's an interesting format. Trying to debate with people with 140 characters is a challenge that will sharpen your skills.

  11. He can't do it. In his world everyone hates Trump and Hilliary is the second coming of Mother Teresa. I still don't know what to think about Trump, but I have no doubts about Hilliary. 13. I really don't blame the CIA. They're spies and spies spy. It's what they do. The problem is they're not kept on a short leash lately and have been allowed to hunt on their own. The people that oversee them are to blame I believe. They can call them to heel anytime they get ready to if it suited them.

  14. But withholding info on vulnerabilities is not an ethical position. I'm not really bashing them though, just pointing out that they've made the same mistake the CIA has made. They've so focused on their goals that they've abandoned the high road.

I've been working around hazardous materials since the late 70s. It's really amazing how far we've come. I remember washing my hands with trichloroethylene back almost 40 years ago. I used it to clean out the equipment bays and other areas on F15 aircraft with a sprayer. Literally gallons of it at a time. I wore safety glasses and that was it. I was a lot more careful with MEK, that stuff was amazing. The most powerful solvent I ever used. I know a lot of the guys I worked with got cancer and died. Lots of liver cancer, stomach cancer, brain cancer. I made a lot of money, raised two children and have a good retirement but it came with risk. The paint guys are the ones who really got it bad.
