  1. I've settled on PeppermintOS.

  2. I did but it was never the same as when Gnome was the default. I struggled on for a few months but finally went looking elsewhere.

  3. I loved Ubuntu right up until they fucked it up with Unity. I went back several times but I just can't deal with it. I'm glad you like it, that's what I love about Linux. I just turned around and started testing distros until I got the right one. Every once in a while I try out the latest Ubuntu but the fit is never right now.

Jackson was a decisive and forceful leader. He had lots of good attributes but he was a serious asshole as well. Aside from his position on slavery which was not really an issue at the time there was the way he treated the Native Americans. In particular the horrible way the Cherokee in Georgia were ripped from their land and sent on the Trail of Tears where so many perished. These people were guilty of no violent acts and in fact were in some ways more civilized than their white neighbors. The Cherokee nation had it's own written language and printed newspapers and interacted well with their white neighbors. At least until gold was discovered on their lands. For this and some other actions Jackson is reviled by Native Americans. Every time I drive by the State Capital in Atlanta and see that gold on the dome I feel ashamed.

The Netherlands is about the size of Tennessee. I can't see driving around Tennessee in a battery powered car but then I guess The Netherlands is a lot flatter. I've thought of getting one of those electric cars once I retire and stop commuting to work. I'll keep a pickup for when I need to carry things and the electric thing for putting around town. The pickup will come in handy for towing the 33 foot trailer around to state parks. I can hardly wait, I never thought I would live long enough to draw a retirement check. Still 6 weeks to go (knocks on wood).

This is what happens when you get rid of physical money. Venmo may be convenient but it's also a convenient way to get fucked as this guy apparently discovered.

It's pretty well known, and I personally have seen it occur several times, that the trick to getting disability is hiring a lawyer and being persistent. They almost always reject on the first and second try unless you're an actual invalid confined to a bed. I have several relatives that have worked the system and get their monthly "gubbmint check." It's not exactly a windfall but it does enable you to sit in front of the TV all day and eat potato chips. This article is pretty informative. A lot of people like to blame President Obama for the surge in SSI recipients but in fact the rules were loosened by President Reagan back in 1984.

    Very interesting read that is.

  17. No they wont. The system will break. What's going to happen then is anyone's guess but I bet it wont be pretty.

  18. I don't particularly mind helping people that actually need help and aren't able to help themselves. So much of the money the government passes around these days has nothing to do with that though. They already had forgiveness for people that showed they were disabled but now they just have to say they're disabled. No need to actually provide any proof. I have a serious problem with that. That's not even socialism, its waste and fraud.
