You consider a 30 year maximum sentance adequate? I'd say its nowhere near adequate. If that was the case in the US we would have a shitload of truly notorious and nasty criminals out on the street by now or in the future. Many serial killers would survive the 30 years in prison and get out still in adequate shape to kill again. Or what about the that moron who killed the two cops and the dispatcher mentioned in the previous slashdot post. He is only 17 and thus he could get out when only 47. Thats insane.
Those photos actually show a ceramic multi-chip module containing 4 power5s and 4 cache chips. Up to 8 of em can go into a single chassis. Truly geek porn. Also I've read that the CELL would be about the same size as the Emotion Engine at 25nm. So SONY has already shown that they aren't afraid of using a big chip.
Actually for that kinda load they tend to use some kind of oil film bearing as they have nearly infinite load capacity. I read about a telesope that used them that weighed many tons you could turn by hand.
I am well aware of the highly non-linear price to performance curve of computer hardware. I guess I was just oversimplifying, but this only enhances my point that any game language really needs to be as efficient as possible because we all spend a lot of dollars for the hardware.
I consider myself to be fairly intelligent but I simply could not make sense of double-entry accounting. The whole damn field of accounting seems like its way more complicated than it really needs to be just to give accountants job security and better incomes.
Shit python would be better suited for a scripting engine, but the graphics engine is certianly not going to be written in it. According to the Jake2 website the Java version of the Quake2 engine runs about 75% of the C version. To me this is unnaceptable as it means I have to spend 25% more on hardware to get the same performance. Quite wasteful
What about the fact that JAVA doesn't even use the Intel FPU, rather it does it in software for full IEEE compatability and is sloth slow as a consequence?
In the real world this kinda shit has been struck down. Gun makers aren't liable for what people do with the guns, knife makers aren't liable, hell even junkfood makers aren't liable.
Large webmail providers like gmail are in a unique position to detect spam. Simply analyse all the mails coming in to all the mailboxes and if an identical or nearly identical message is being sent to thousands of inboxes it gonna be spam.
Half-Life 2 should NOT have won best graphics. It does have pretty people but it's environments are prettly lackluster. DOOM 3 or Farcry should have won best graphics, with Farcry getting my vote. Seeing the water and beaches at 1600*1200 you just want to lick the screen.
... NOOO!!!

So THATS why that happens. I always wondered why the message window just streaked across the screen like that.

... I wish I had thought of it!
Well as a college student who has to move frequently an LCD monitor is REAL nice alternative to CRTs.
The Samsung 710t is a fantastic monitor with 24bpp color and a 16ms response time. In just about all respects its a perfect replacement for CRTs.
Other than its a bloated and wastefull mess, I guess so.

Well I'm much more interested in the bearings they used.
But that would make you a counter-revolutionary and thus must be killed ASAP.

Sorry, but 'near native speed' just isn't gonna gut it.
Why isn't any major 3D game written in Java? I suppose it could work for simpler 2d games.
And Java is completely unsuited for game development.
Shit, I've seen a unit capable of 1mm accuracy.
Well, he actually thinks his system is a legitamate competitor to the US. Makes him pretty bonkers in my book.
In what other country is it common to refer to foreigners as "white devils" or "black devils" or just "foreign devils".
