you can enable it by going to about:config (which seemingly must be typed into the address bar, not clicked on in a link) and changing browser.urlbar.autocomplete.learning.mode to 2. it's mentioned at the autocomplete page (but the data collection phase appears to be over, so don't bother following the data collection steps). i've been using the maching learning autocomplete in 1.3b for a few weeks and it's better than the default.
altavista used to have an easter egg if you searched for "monty python holy grail". at the top, it would list answers to questions and one of the questions was "what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?". if you clicked this, it displayed "what do you mean, an african or european swallow?". it went on another quote or so and then directed you to a script of monty python and the holy grail.
since you're not allowed to distribute any of microsoft's proprietary information about the api, it seems that releasing source code at all would be prohibited. if a gpled program is written and distributed, suddenly the world will know all about the api used in the sdk. i think microsoft is just trying to spread fud about the gpl by going over the top in describing exactly the same license that most other companies would use.
i'm not sure about the patent issues; they may very well be (legally, not morally) valid, but this is not copyright violation. freedb is using their own server with their own entries. if freedb were to let users query gracenote's actual entries through a freedb server, then it might be considerable under the dmca, but not as it stands.
i highly doubt the lawmakers in this country will just get rid of the law completely. even if they wanted to, the industry would do everything in their power (and plenty outside of it) to stop it. i believe the dmca may be changed or have a few exceptions slapped on, but that's all.
my boss says that all the comp sci classes were wastes of time, but i was planning on majoring in cs. he much prefers ce, as do some of the other high-up guys in this (small) company. however, i never went and am doing just fine.
I'm allowed to copy CDs onto my disk drive. What's the difference?
from what i've heard, no, you're not allowed to copy cds onto your hard drive. you're not allowed to make a copy of a cd in your cdr drive. you are, however, allowed to make copies on cassettes and in component cd writers designed specifically for audio cds.
unfortunately, i don't know the law that grants/denies these rights (perhaps the home recording act) and i don't want to look it up right now.
i bought the shirt in question (as did a friend of mine who was fired for having decss on his web site), and it only has half of the decss source code (css_descramble.c). copyleft sells another shirt with the rest of the code (csstables.c) on the back.
i've worn the "(dvd/cca)" shirt a few times, and it gets good reactions from my friends (geeks and socs alike). those who know the story enjoy the shirt and those who don't invariably ask and hear the "truth" (my undoubtably biased side of the story:7 ). i plan on buying the "got decss" shirt soon.
from the article: "Metallica didn't make 17,000 mistakes," King said... "What Napster has done is create 17,000 liars."
these 17,000 people were not liars before they used napster, and they would not have been liars had it not been for napster. as we all know, napster created these liars from formerly perfect law-abiding citizens.
there are/have been more than three office suites. there's star office, there was one given away free in magazine by some russian team, and i'm sure there are others i'm forgetting.
did anyone else read that as
yeah, but look at her html...
keep an eye on http://hal.physics.wayne.edu/. if it's not perfectly compliant in a few weeks, maybe the book isn't as good as carl said.
i'm sure all the macintosh users were as frusterated as her.
did anyone else read that in a wrestlemania tone? is sco going to start throwing chairs at red hat?

it's correct because the page is xhtml, not html. observe the tag; that's xml syntax.

a buckyball is a specific arrangement of atoms so that they form a sphere (like a geodesic dome). they're named after r. buckminster fuller.
we've got a philosophy/religion major working here as a programmer.

they also released a kick doom map with lots of new kick-inspired graphics.
alas, poor kick, i drank you well.

how so?
on the local machine, it's easy to detect promiscuity, but you can't readily deduce this about a machine elsewhere on the network.

have you ever seen an anonymous coward with karma?

does anybody remember the stink microsoft raised about open standards in instant messaging clients? they were the underdog there, too...
you must take reasonable security precautions, at least as great as the precautions you take to protect your own confidential information
it says reasonable security precautions, though.
